The speeding penalty's are fine ,it's the track cuts that we are talking about .
I thought long and hard about using them for this series .. Now we have had some issues already in race 2 so I want to see how everyone feels about them .
There are a few things to consider ..If you have an off your already loosing time so to also be punished iMO is not necessary...
lots of the tracks in PC2 can be cut severely Donnington Park comes to mind & you can gain a big advantage.

So if they are turned off its up to the drivers to respect the track limits & its more of an honor system .. & up to the drivers to report any cutting they see .
If thy are on we have to deal with the fact that they are super tight to the apex and unforgiving however its the same for all so in that regard they are fair .

we have 2 ways to deal with this.

    1. Turn on in-game track penalty's . they are tight and unforgiving but it's the SAME FOR ALL .

    2. Turn off in-game penalty's / Race Stewarts review. This requires there be a protest filed followed by a replay review after witch the driver will receive a penalty after the results have been posted .. (48 hr time frame & a PITA) ..

With # 1 if you cut you pay or it adds up & its the same for all with no gray areas ..
With #2 you can cut like a mad man and only get caught if some one reports you ..

Despite I had serious problems in the last race, I voted for continued use the penalty system. I have to pay more attention to not crossing the track limits! I working on it. I think, Brands Hatch it was a special place where very difficult to perform a 90 minute race without any penalty.
(At least for me, and frankly, I did not know the track enough to avoid these problems…)

It was true that all you say early: these restrictions were equally valid for everyone. If we turn it off, we can never be sure who respect the rules, whether deliberately or unintentionally. To adapt to the system - this is also a kind of task during a race.

I appreciate the fact that this topic was discussed after Brands Hatch, but I think: leave the penalty system on.

I’ll second the fact that I’m impressed by the leadership and tact to post this topic. Good job collecting feedback after a complaint was issued.

Okay, so pCARS 2 follows the rule (rather inconsistently) of 50% of your car over the white line as being off track or cutting. I'm really not a fan and it feels like Jackie Stewart is breathing down my neck looking for the slightest excuse to give me a penalty.

Most racing series in Europe adhere to the at least 2 wheels on the track then it's fine. Personally I think the honor system is the way to go, I don't distrust anyone participating here to be severely cutting the track to the extent to be gaining a massive advantage over others. If we feel someone is abusing the track limits severely then we report it for review and then a final decision can be made by a person rather than a computer as per real life.

It's not exactly like that, the two wheels inside the white lines rule still exist in PCARS2 and it is enough for the game to consider you in a valid position. The 50% thing is different, it's an extra thing, so even if you go all four wheels off the white line, if 50% of the car is inside the curbs (if there are big enough curbs there, like turn one in Watkins Glenn), then still the game considers this as valid position and issues no warning or penalty.

In my opinion the track limits themselves have been defined more or less pretty well in the game, what is the big problem is the enforcement of the limits, which is insane. You go just 10 cm out of the limits which happens so easily in the heat of the battle and the system requires from you to give back a couple seconds or even more, possibly losing a few race places on the way.

But unfortunately what can we do, some way of preventing blatant cuts is necessary, so I think we are stuck with using this. Btw, some of us in the official forum are trying to persuade SMS to improve the system...

For round 3 I moved the slider for the track limit penalties from 5 sec's to 30 sec's (max) & it seemed a little better & at least is gives you some wiggle room ..
I still have not rapped my head around exactly how this works … the way it reads to me is it allows you to accumulate 30 seconds of cut penalties , a few here , a few there for your cuts like Colin explained above but after you reach 30 sec's of penalty's , -on your next cut it hands you a drive threw ..

Yeah, it's just the accumulated limit until you get a DT. But sadly it does not affect the strictness of the track limits enforcement or the amount of seconds given in each individual penalty.

Thanks for the update Colin, during development and initially upon release it was 50% of the car over the line bar a few curbs (mahjik comments on it here but this was a while ago). It was really strict initially but i have noticed it has been more relaxed at more corners lately. SMS have probably made changes since (patch notes would be really helpful to verify) which is probably why I find the 50% rule to be rather inconsistent now.

The track limits have been defined well but as you say the enforcement is the biggest problem and is the biggest challenge for the team. Computers do not make the best judges to say the least but hopefully the supporters can keep chiming in with ideas on how to improve the system.
