So the film Ford vs Ferrari is up for Best Picture Oscar.

Has anyone seen this film? If so what are thoughts on it.

I have been disappointed with films about motor racing before. Who remembers the awful Sylvester Stallone film Driven. It was supposed to be an F1 film. But I guess American money put pressure on the writers to turn it into an Indy car movie. Nothing wrong there but that scene when they take their cars onto the streets was really difficult to watch it was so bad. Other films that disappointed was Le Mans. Now this is my favourite film because of the insane race footage but the story wrapped around it was dreadfully dull. Grand Prix was another film where the same could be said. Rush was a film that bucked the trend. It was awesome. I even believed the actors were who they were meant to be.

But what of this film Ford vs Ferrari? Not seen it yet. Hope its as good as the trailer suggests its going to be.

Any other car films you guys can think of?

Rendezvous. Is another film I have on DVD. Where supposedly a Ferrari races through the streets of Paris. There was much debate on whether this was real but the noise of the car and the footage makes you wonder why so many people seemed to be fooled by it. It turned out that the car was a Mercedes estate and the film had been speeded up and sounds overlaid. Obvious.

"C'était un rendez-vous" was made in 1976 by Claude Lelouch. It was filmed very early on a Sunday morning totally illegally. Claude Lelouch was the driver and he used his own car, a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 because of the hydropneumatique suspension for the filming - the Ferrari suspension was too hard, especially over the cobblestones - and then overlaid the Ferrari sound. The film was not speeded up, he actually got up to nearly 200km/h at one time.

Thanks. I stand corrected. Still a good film though even when you know the truth. :)

Yes,a great film - short and sweet. Also in the period when Paris was still Paris. Can be found on Youtube here
