I'm not a techie regarding the internet backbone, but I'm not sure I agree with your logic that the network speed is a responsibility of the SRO server provider, especially across all those hops.

I think that all those connections between you and the server are not the server's fault. If you want a better connection, get a better connection.
Easier said than done, sometimes impossible.
If you are running off a mobile data service, OMG!

That app requires Java which is no longer supported and I've already removed it from my PC.

Are you mistaking Flash with Java? Flash has just been dropped and not supported by Adobe anymore. Here is the downlkoad link if you want to reinstall Java; https://www.java.com/en/download/

    I agree with your comments.

When we’ve been racing on Racedepartment with large grids (mainly leagues) we had issues as well but it can sometimes be other reasons rather than server.

People racing from all corners of the globe don’t always help (I’m not blaming I’m just remarking) we sometimes had issues with those in America and some who raced from far away as Japan or Brazil. Their connections would spike very high every so often and cause accidents.

You’d also be amazed at the number of people who raced with WiFi. They were very popular online! Haha. Most of them caused terrible lagging and issues. They’d be fine in races with say a dozen cars but anything larger and their connection wouldn’t cope.

So yes servers can be to blame as well but I’m just saying that blaming it solely on that issue is slightly unfair on SRO.

Bizarrely I had no issues last night. Everything was ok for me. The only glitches I noticed were cars very briefly appearing on the start straight and back straight. For about a millisecond.

In the TV view. Well that was something else. Some cars were warping badly on the screen but it was always the same cars though. It wasn’t a random thing. No real issues in the race though. Even at the race start which is a good test.

With regards to communication. I’m all for teamspeak or discord if you want to use it but I’ve found most of our racers on SRO don’t always speak fluent English so it may be ok for the majority but the rest of the field wouldn’t understand what was going on. Which isn’t fair on them.

    ... At 30 mph.

Actually, that was off-track. The 30mph was my doing as we didn't have voice comms with one of our drivers, so we had to convince him to formation fly for a few minutes so I could get some pictures (this one was stationary on the exit of T1). There is video evidence of them battling at race speed, if you're going to be curt about it ;)

Ah my bad, that was the wrong corner. It looked like the one but seeing the kerb its the wrong corner. Actually, I'll have the replay somewhere but hayho, other stuff is needed at the moment. At one point we fought each other through 2-3 corners and nose to tail for a while without any contact, was a right giggle after most had disconnected, the corners feel fast but everyone at some point does 30mph through some apexes so.... (and speedo's saying 50 instead of 30 doesn't mean kph is mph ;)).

Judging by the votes, you can be pretty sure it will be re-scheduled next Sunday 31 January (20:00 GMT Qual).
I will wait 1 more day and then confirm the winning vote.

The server has been fixed already and is still up with the practise password.
I have checked the race setting and it's all good. There will be no problems this time.

    What was the problem?

We suspect it was a server setting change due to a rFactor 2 update. The server was set correctly for a "standing" start, but it selected the Oval formation lap type start.

So you corrected the start problem, not the lags problem.
    Right?

The lag problem is being worked on by Ken Jagger. He can explain it better than me.

You should also consider that part of the lag comes from players with a high ping value.
