Poll: do you want a mandatory pitstop to change all 4 tires?

The cars in this mod have different fuel economy. Some cars can go 60 minutes without stopping and some cars can't.
    Please submit your vote.

The poll stays up for only 7 days, because we have to choose the cars based on the outcome.

  2. Reading Tim's post in the other thread, it seems best to force a pitstop, as the mod seems really all over the place regarding fuel consumption (and other things).

I've just been reading the server manual while setting up some testing of my own and have found something that might negate the requirement for a mandatory tire change:

You can set the fixed setup box in server manager using a setup with an equal* fuel load for each car competing and then simply remove all other fixed parts of the setup from the setup .ini file used. Drivers will apparently be able to edit any value that isn't in the file generated by the server.
I've not tried it yet to see where the files are generated (I'm guessing it's a line under each car in the entry list from how the manual is worded).

The only problem here of course is that some cars don't seem to have tire wear - You'll need a couple of test races to find out how bad that is (The Merc didn't get any wear at all when I was playing around in it - given that has to be drifted something crazy to go fast that would suggest it can probably go full race. Or you could simply turn off tire wear I guess to keep things equal.

*Equal as in you can calculate this using Kimi's attachment - I've not been through in detail but it seems close to my own findings. The only problem is you can't increase the fuel tank in the Escort which would need 2 stops to actually finish an hour long race.....

Agree with this. I think there seems to be too many problems, so we need to find out what impact these will have. No point doing a whole series if these cars are simply not up to it.

The series is up already and people have signed in on it, so it can't be cancled. If there are issue's with some cars, then don't choose them or let's leave them out.
I can't be expected to test all cars extensively on my own, so please let me know the issue's if you find any to specific cars and we will discuss it.

I will look into this. Thanks.

Although I think this was built into AC to allow fixed setups to be used on a Dedicated Server, which I am actually using for my Macau Magic TCR race tomorrow, I can see how it might work for balancing out the fuel levels needed for each car.

I was just thinking ... Say I would set the fuel for all cars to 100 liters. This would not change the fuel consumption per lap. So cars with low consumption would finish with a heavy car, and cars with a high fuel consumption would finish with a light car. I'm not sure that is the answer to our fuel problem.

I think Tim is suggesting you set each car with a calculation of the fuel it would need, using the fuel mileage data from Kimi's file, so each car would be carrying a different fuel load as set in the fixed setup file, which could not be changed in-game. However this still would not fix the different performance characters of the cars.

And I would have to do that for each car and each round again and upload those files to acServiceManager x 17 cars each round? Damn. Sorry, but that's too much work just to have some fun. We must find an alternative.

When each car has to stop to take tires, we're already close to home. No car can go to the finish without a stop. And re-fueling + taking tires happens at the same time, so as far I'm concerned it's fixed with a mandatory pitstop. Just don't take a car that has to stop twice for fuel (which is only 1 car in the 60's class).

You'd only need to set the fuel once - using figures amalgamated from tests at a few different tracks.
As the amount topped up in the pit stop can be changed by the driver all you're using the set fuel for is as a range limiter - this forces cars to pit. What they do tire wise is up to them - a well caculated range limit can still provide the choice between a tire change for track speed Vs quicker pit stop for track position.
As for the performance differences - they're all basically the same once you throw a spread of tracks at them apart from a few really slow cars like the Alpine, mini, imp and Alfa.
Even these have a few stronger tracks though.

As for putting 100litres in everything that would just cause a massive fire hazards - the Escort only has a 40 liter tank and the mini's is 25!

Since you can re-fuel while taking tires, I don't think all that is necessary. I'm really not up for fuel testing 17 cars on 3 or 4 tracks to get a common determinator for all of them. :)

The fact that all of these cars have varying fuel consumption and tyre wear (as it would have been in real life) will make for a more interesting and unpredictable championship in my view. Remember you can choose whatever car you like , so if you think that any particular car is uncompetitive then don't choose it! Maybe we are taking this just too seriously , as John touched on earlier surely we all do this to have fun!

You nailed it Phil, cards are on table, just pick one. We race for fun, not money after all, most of series I just pick car that looks cool, sounds cool, feels good and then found myself in back of the grid.... :)

Can i register at the series without choosing a car yet or a class yet? Is that possible?
Or can i change my registration after testing the cars and off course before the series start?
Oh dear wrong topic, i am sorry can someone transfer my question at questions topic?

Yes you can, if there is still room in that class.

The final result of the poll is:
    10 in favour
    2 against.

That means that we will have a mandatory pitstop to change all 4 tires.
    Fuel strategy is free.
