    WEATHER TO BE ANNOUNCED.

    Fuji speedway background:

Fuji Speedway is a motorsport race track standing in the foothills of Mount Fuji, in Oyama, Suntō District, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It was built in the early 1960s. In the 1980s, Fuji Speedway was used for the FIA World Sportscar Championship and national racing. Originally managed by Mitsubishi Estate, Fuji Speedway was acquired by Toyota in 2000. The circuit hosted the Formula One 2007 Japanese Grand Prix after an absence of nearly 30 years, replacing the Suzuka Circuit owned by Honda.
After Fuji Speedway hosted the 2008 race, the Japanese Grand Prix returned to Suzuka for races from 2009 onward. The Super GT Fuji 500 km race is held at the racetrack on Golden Week.

Fuji Speedway has one of the longest straights in motorsport, at 1.475 km (0.917 mi) in length. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license at least until April 2026.

The abandoned "30° Bank" of the old track
Fuji remained a popular sports car racing venue; the FIA World Sportscar Championship visited the track between 1982 and 1988 and it was often used for national races. Speeds continued to be very high, and two chicanes were added to the track: one after the first hairpin corner, the second at the entry to the wide, fast final turn (300R). Even with these changes, the main feature of the track remained its approximately 1.5 km (0.93 mi) long straight, one of the longest in all of motorsports.

The long pit straight has also been utilised for drag racing. NHRA exhibitions were run in 1989, and in 1993 Shirley Muldowney ran a 5.30 on the quarter-mile strip at Fuji. Local drag races are common on the circuit, at both 440 yd (402.336 m) & 1,000 ft (304.800 m) distances.

The track continued to be used for Japanese national races. Plans to host a CART event in 1991 were abandoned due to conflicts with the Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile. It was not until the autumn of 2000 that the majority of the stocks of the track were bought by Toyota from Mitsubishi Estate as part of its motor racing plans for the future.

This is not the modern Fuji layout. The 1993 version has a different track layout.
Me and the boss Nigel Middleton did rFactor 1 Enduracers multiclass here back in the day and it's going to be an adventure ...!
A track modder converted the 1993 Fuji to rFactor 2 on my request. I think SRO is the only site that has this rF2 version now.

This is the actual rFactor 2 track we're going to drive. This is a better quality video I made as a demo.

    DRIVERS BRIEFING

    1. All 6 events of this series will be broadcast

    2. VLM Fuji 1993 Conditions
    1) The race will start at 02:00 PM (in-game time of course).
    2) Time acceleration is normal. Fuel = normal, tyres = x 3.
    3) Cut Track points are set to 6
    4) 100% damage
    5) This event has a formation lap. The pole sitters can start racing coming out of the last corner.
    6) Qualification is NOT set to "private". We go out all together at the same time for 15 minutes.
    7) The weather is completely dry.
    8) See the "DISCO PROCEDURE".
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU HAVE A HEADSET CONNECTED TO TEAM SPEAK, WITH OR WITHOUT A MIC.
WHILE ON THE SERVER, WE WILL ALL GO TO THE "RFACTOR2" ROOM ON TEAM SPEAK FOR THE RACE BRIEFING DURING WARMUP TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS.

    9. PUNTING:
    - If you punt a driver, you have to stop and give the track position back.
    - If you are not able to give the track position back, you have to do a pitlane drive-through.
    - If you do not give the position back or do a drive-through, you will go 3 positions down in the end result after the race.
    - Drivers who are punted can report to me, John van der Geest/admin, if the offender did none of the above.

    3. The use of the Esc. key in Qualification
Use of the Esc key during Qualifying is the equivalent of stopping your car and getting out. This may be done only in your pit stall. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Here are the only two we will currently consider. These exceptions are subject to change at any time:
    1. You run out of fuel in the pit lane before reaching your pit stall.
    2. You sustain damage to your car as a result of another driver and cannot make it back to your pit stall. You must prove your qualifying session was wrecked by another driver and that you made an attempt to return to pit lane.

If you use the Esc key in any location other than your pit stall, your Qualifying session is over and you may not return to the track.

    4. You can find the password for the race server on the VLM Fuji event page.

    5. Unregistering in time if you can't make it.

    6. Please use the SAME NAME in the rFactor 2 game as on our SRO signup list or it won't match in our automated result processing.

You can change your name in the rFactor 2 "Profile" menu.

    7. If you plan to PROTEST another driver, you have to wait 24 hours counting from the end of the race.
Any protest filed before that time will be viewed as not received. You can find the rules about submitting a protest here.

    8. You can find the server by typing SRO or the track name. Add the server to your favourites so you can always find it.
If you can't find the server in the rFactor 2 server list, you can access this way:
    1. click on this link: https://simracepackages.lima-city.de/rF2server/
    2. scroll down to "SRO" (it's alphabetical)
    3. choose the correct server and join with the password (see point 4 above)
    4. the server will start automatically and will take you to the event

First, I have to apologize to @George Emery
In the race I was not sure what had happened but after watching the replay, I have to admit this one was on me - braked too late ot react. The only thing I noticed was, that your brake was always on (in my replay), but when there is a slower car at the apex, the faster car needs some margin and brake earlier than normal. I was surprised and yeah - should not have happened. It did, so I am sorry.

Of course this did not help my race, I tried to hang on but I had not enough fuel for 43 laps just 42.8. Tough break, seems the longer the season runs the more it gets away from me. But only one more time, so I will try my best until the end but I think some other guys are just faster. Very well done.

    Apology accepted!

Not sure when it started, but realized my brake pedal was dragging, so dropped out shortly afterwards. Began to get suspicious when Jones motored by me so easily. No wonder I couldn't develop any speed in practice, qualifying, & race this event! Brake pedal is load cell [edited], so not sure why it happened. Will add checking pedal response in-game before running to my checklist.

A nice 'leisurely' Sunday drive for me. Pretty consistent but nowhere near my Class companions. Guessed something must have been wrong with George, accident or mechanical as he was falling further and further behind.
Pleased with my performance, kept it on track apart from a couple of minor lapses. The Class 1' are so fast in comparison but all passes went without any issues. Maybe 1 incident where I had 2 Class 1's and 1 Class 2 caught me at at a chicane. I was in their hands!
Ran out of fuel on my last lap and had to drive at 30kph to get to the line!
Great turn out and exciting, clean racing at a deceptive track.
Thanks guys and admin. I'll watch the stream later.

Same goes for me. The Porsches were very respectful and patient if they had to be.

I had a good workout with Robin Taylor as he was on my bumper for nearly the whole race.
10 minutes before the end Robin suddenly disappeared from my mirror in sector 3. As I watched where he was, I missed my braking point a little and spun in the last chicane, just as Robin had spun behind me a few seconds ago. That also cost me 4 seconds.
That was the difference between getting in front or behind after the pitstop. It was almost a perfect race and the win would have been the cherry on top. But it was a great race nevertheless.

1 more epic round to go ...!

    Grats Nick,

Good racing @John vd Geest, I loved that battle, almost the whole race, you soaked up the pressure lap after lap, its much easier being the hunter, I think without our spins you would of kept the lead. Onto Spa, fingers crossed, it'll be as close again.

Coming last hour to this race and championship, unfortunatly.
With just a couple of laps of training and berely knowing the car, it was not easy to get pace (no setup at all). Did a quick numbers for fuel and tires was just incertain.
Despite that, had a good start and quickly i was in 3th place with a very good batle with two other drivers but then i got scared with one of the other class and i went off.
At the midle of the race, i went for fuel and tires cause i had no rubber at all already (how did some of you managed to go almost to the end? my tires and my fuel deposit just would allow it)
I noticed that i lost so much time in pits for fuel and tires, was it my impression?
When i came again i made a mistake (miracously it was one of so few) and lost even more time.
The other class came so fast that blue flag almost didnt have time to sinalize it.
Great combo car and track. Great race. Great driving from all even with mix classes. Congrats
Great broadcasting too, lovely to watch, with comentators trying to catch everybody.
Grats to winners and all participantes.
Thank you for having me here and for all the work from the Admins.
i love this old cars, so shame i came at the end....

Try to find a setup that does not understeer to prevent big and micro sliding. Also, increase the tyre noise in the sound menu so you can hear where you slide too much.

Most GT drivers don't change tyres and just take a little fuel.

Just out of interest, what % AI skill are you guys using to practice?

  19. John vd Geest

John vd Geest Administrator Staff Member Donator

If you set it at 105%, and then practice to keep up with the last cars or even overtaking cars, then you're in pretty good shape to be competitive online with the mid-pack.
The fast guys like Nick Westy will set it at 120%, and maybe even that will be too slow.

100% and start from the back so I get used to the passing zones for that track.
