    Spa Francorcamps 1939

The 1939 Belgian Grand Prix was a Grand Prix motor race held on 25 June 1939 at Spa-Francorchamps.

A race circuit had been suggested at Spa as early as 1895 but did not become a reality until Jules de Thier designed a course in 1921. The original Spa-Francorchamps used the narrow public roads from La Source, through Malmedy, onto the Masta straight, before passing between the houses at the fearsome Masta Kink.

During World War Two there were no races. But from December 1944 to January 1945 the Spa-Francorchamps circuit was in the middle of the Ardennes Offensive. The first post war races have been held in 1947.

    1. 1920
Three routes to create a circuit
At the end of the first World War, the chevalier Jules de Thier, owner of the Liège newspaper La Meuse, was looking for a site to revive the La Meuse Cup, a car race that had been interrupted by World War 1 from 1914-1918. Following a meeting at the Hotel des Bruyères, in Francorchamps, with the Baron Joseph de Crawhez (burgomaster of Spa) and the racing-car driver Henri Langlois van Ophem, it was decided that the triangle formed by the routes 32, 23 and 440 connecting Spa-Francorchamps to Malmédy and Stavelot constituted an ideal circuit.
    2. 1921
      Motorbikes replace cars
The first car race was scheduled for the month of August 1921 on a track that was 15.820 km in length. Unfortunately, only one driver registered. The event was thus replaced by a race which gathered together 23 motorbikes and was won by Hassal on a Norton 500cc at an average speed of 90 km/hr.
    3. 1922
      The first RACB Grand Prix
One year later, the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium organised its "Belgian GP" at Francorchamps, an endurance race for cars won by the Baron de Tornaco-Bruyère in an Impéria-Abadal at an average speed of 88.900 km/hr.
    4. 1924
Antonio Ascari in an Alfa Romeo won the European GP.
After the construction of a timing booth, of a scoreboard and a Press stand, the RACB organised the first edition of the 24 Hours of Francorchamps.
    5. 1925
      The European GP at Spa
Antonio Ascari in an Alfa Romeo won the European GP.
    6. 1928
      Tarmacking of the track
To avoid stones being thrown up, the dirt track had tarmac laid down.
    7. 1939
      Creation of the Raidillon
The removal of the old Customs bend and the construction of a spectacular curve whuich was baptised the Raidillon, more often called the Eau Rouge bend by foreigners. This fast curve with a steep (17%) incline was going to contribute to the international reputation of the circuit and was soon to become the most exciting bend on the calendar.

Is it the 1930s layout with the dodgy chicane?

    Drivers briefing

    1. Spa Francorshamps 30s Conditions
    1) The race will start at 02:00 PM (in-game time of course)
    2) Time acceleration is normal. Fuel and Tires are set to normal.
    3) Cut Track points are set to 6
    4) 50% damage
    5) This event has a standing start without a formation lap.

    2. The use of the Esc. key in Qualification
Use of the Esc key during Qualifying is the equivalent of stopping your car and getting out. This may be done only in your pit stall. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Here are the only two we will currently consider. These exceptions are subject to change at any time:
    1. You run out of fuel in pit lane before reaching your pit stall.
    2. You sustain damage to your car as a result of another driver and cannot make it back to your pit stall. You must prove your qualifying session was wrecked by another driver and that you made an attempt to return to pit lane.

If you use the Esc key in any location other than your pit stall, your Qualifying session is over and you may not return to the track.

    3. You can find the password for the race server on the Spa Francorshamps event page.

    4. Unregistering in time if you can't make it.

    5. Please use the
same name in the rFactor 2 game as on our SRO signup list or it won't match in our automated result processing.

    6. If you plan to PROTEST another driver, you have to wait 24 hours counting from the end of the race.

Any protest filed before that time will be viewed as not received. You can find the rules about submitting a protest here.

    7. You can find the server by typing SRO or the track name. Add the server to your favorites so you can always find it.
If you can't find the server in the rFactor 2 server list, you can access this way:

I'll give it a go, but right now I'm not sure I have the control to even complete ten minutes of this race. I might elect to deliberately start from the back so I can stay out of peoples' way until I inevitably crash out. XD

I'm sure most of us feel like that
I hope my ego doesn't win it from my common sense!

Well... I counted over 20 rollovers and half of them were in the air! I am pretty shure that is my PB! Amazing job from @Maddie Shepherd. Very well done!

Welp. I expected to retire, but I'm pretty gutted to have got so far just to retire on the penultimate lap! Oh well. Congrats to @Maddie Shepherd on an absolutely gigantic victory!

For a variety of reasons my practice time was almost nil and to make matters worse, what little practice I did get was on the wrong circuit!
When joining the server, I was surprised to see necessary content being downloaded. Then I remembered the circuit had been updated  My fault for having the memory span of a goldfish :)
Complete shock instantly replaced surprise as soon as I left the pits and discovered that Eau Rouge was no longer part of the track!
    Oh well . . .
Things didn't get any better when about 2 minutes into the race, my steering wheel decided to part company from the rest of my rig, which quickly lead to one of my virtual wheels parting company from my virtual car and instantly ending my race :(
    Can't catch a break :)

Congrats to the podium and to all finishers . . . oh! that was all the finishers :D

I knew this track would be a challenge and when I saw the times being put up in qually, I knew I couldn't compete on pace and needed to just be patient.

Off the start I got a good start but far too much wheelspin, I would have been heading down the pitlane to overtake the car in front. I didn't see that was a good way to gain a place. Off the start in 4th and putting pressure on @John vd Geest and nearly losing it on the first lap which was pretty scary! The pack behind got close but I just tried to stay consistent and wait for my chance. I had some catching up to do!!

By the end of the lap I was right on John's tail, waiting for my opportunity to get by. John got bad exit onto the straight up to the Masta Kink and I drafted passed. I had to take a tight line into the Masta Kink which was very scary!! Managed to pull away gradually but I had nothing for the cars ahead in terms of pace so I just wanted to keep wheels on my wagon!!

Sat in no mans land.... slower than cars in front, faster than cars behind... it was a lonely middle of the race! With about 26 mins to go I saw some tiremarks heading off the road to the right. It kind of looked like @Kiril Kirilov had got going again, but their name soon disappeared from the relative and I was up to 2nd. From then on it was a very lonely race!

Well done to @Matias Estrela for getting an Alfa podium!!

I am really loving this series.... classic cars are just so much better :D

I was definitely debating whether to slow up and only do 11 laps instead of 12, but just decided to keep driving the way I was in the hopes that you'd make a mistake, which was slightly sadistic of me haha.
