    ROUND NR. 1

Welcome to the 1979 South African Grand Prix.

The 1979 South African Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 3 March 1979 at Kyalami. The race, contested over 78 laps, was the third race of the 1979 Formula One season and was won by Gilles Villeneuve, driving a Ferrari. Team-mate and local driver Jody Scheckter finished second, while Jean-Pierre Jarier finished third in a Tyrrell-Ford.

17 drivers as of now. This series is doing pretty good. We are 2 above the 15 minimum signups.
Will do some more promoting on Studio 397 to see if we can get some more guys in.

I can see 2 possible strategies for Kyalami that could work:
    1. Put all the fuel in and race hard tires without a pitstop to change.
    2. Put all the fuel in and race soft tires and most likely change after 70% of the race.

Ad 1) You would have to be relatively close to the leaders, like 10 - 15 sec. to jump them if they pit for tires. But then they would have fresh soft rubber for 30% of the race. And they would be relatively close behind you after their stop.
Ad 2) If you manage to stay close to the leaders when they pit, the closer you are, the bigger the gap you pull without stopping. But you would have to maintain a good pace to the end. Because the stoppers will be doing qual times with soft tires for the last 30% of the race.

Just a question... will the event have a formation lap? Standing start? How can we have access to the weather for the event, temperatures, et Will the track rubber up during server online time until the race? Or the track will be green on the race day?

    Thanks!

Yes, the event will have a formationlap / rollng start from the last corner to ensure everybody gets to corner 1 save. Standing starts are pretty dangerous braking for turn 1.
Now that everybody has invested in this series, I don't want anybody starting the first lap without a front or rear wing. Everybody should be able to start clean and then make his own race.

Weathersettings will be default, starting time 14.00 PM. Air temperature is default always 29 degrees. The track will rubber up during online server time / practise time. On raceday the race starts on a green track and gets rubbered in during the race.

    Hello guys!
"On raceday the race starts on a green track and gets rubbered in during the race", why is that?
Why start the race on a green track?

Race starts on a green track??? Or it rubbers up from practice and goes climbing through qualify and to race?

Also, rolling starts in these cars or standing start is the same, all people will reach 1st corner at very fast speeds, slower ones if the start was standing, rolling people will reach first corner at a very fast speed...

    Exactly..
    Or better yet,
Why doesn't the race start with the rubber it acumulated since server came up?

Absolutely agree, just like it was at most leagues, including R2P... anyway for me it's not a problem event starts on a green track, since it builds up from practice to race...

Yes, from practice... but starting the actual race on a green track is a recipe for disaster :)

It's all good anyway... let's have some fun!! I have just a small experience with this simracing thing.. so, if it all goes wrong i can always blaim it on track conditions!!! haahahah

Also, i need to say that standing starts are allways better, i have bad experiences from rolling starts, like people crashing, accelerating too early, bugs from the game when a driver is slightly ahead or behind, etçª, it might be a PITA, but i'll leave that to the admins...

Sorry guys, I mean rubber builds up in the raceweekend from practise to race not only race itself. Like normal. Typing error :)

I don't mind doning standing starts, if everybody can keep their cool in the first corner and brake in time. I would just be a shame if someone does a lot of practise and then gets taken out in turn 1 at the start by a guy with a lot of ambition or poor judgement :).

I'm willing to do a standing start for the first race, but if shit hits the fan at turn 1, I think it's better to do rolling starts from then on. Of course if everyone is mindfull of other drivers, we will keep doing standing starts.

    Agreed?

Standing is fine by me. People just need to practice getting off the line.

This is racing anyway, despite that of course people have to be careful ;)

From my perspective standing or rolling the probability of an accident is almost the same or more on rolling starts... just practice a bit the starts, nothing too complicated, just don't floor the throttle if you're not confortable with the car power, or use clutch... the formation lap is precisely for that, to warm the tires so the start is not so complicated...

With a standing start we don't do a formationlap. It's go to the grid and race at the green light :)

John, that might lead to accidents, a warm up lap is allways good to bring tires and brakes to optimal temperatures...

Formation lap with a standing start is the way to go. Which I know sounds like a contradiction to my above post but I do believe the warm up lap works, did not make that clear
