WELCOME TO ROUND 4: CLERMONT FERRAND 1965

    Circuit history
There had been local interest in motorsport racing beginning with proposals in 1908 for a race on a street circuit, although the proposals were never enacted. Efforts were renewed after the Second World War when the President of the Sports Association of the Automobile Club of Auvergne, Jean Auchatraire, and accomplished racer Louis Rosier designed a course by adapting pre-existing roads around the Puy de Dôme, an extinct volcano which dominated the city skyline. Construction began in May 1957 and the first race was held in July 1958 when an endurance race was won by Innes Ireland in a Lotus 1100, and a Formula Two race won by Maurice Trintignant in a Cooper T43.

Originally, the 8.055 km (5.005 mi) long circuit was described as an even twistier and faster version of the Nürburgring. With a relentless number of sharp curves and elevation changes and with almost no discernible straights, the circuit was both feared and respected by competitors. The sinuous track layout caused some drivers like Jochen Rindt in the 1969 French Grand Prix to complain of motion sickness, and wore open face helmets just in case. Despite the numerous curves, the track was relatively fast with Chris Amon setting the lap record in a Matra MS120 with a 167 km/h (104 mph) average during the 1972 French Grand Prix.

In his 1969 book Motor Cycle Racing, Peter Carrick wrote:
The French Grand Prix circuit at Clermont Ferrand was seen to be in complete contrast to the lap at Monza, when it was first used in 1959: the longest straight was 590 m (650 yd) and a variety of really tight corners quickly demonstrated or exposed a rider's skill!

    3.47 :(
Although, special techniques made me faster, unfortunately only when I fall down from the track. Be careful, it seems also pretty easy to destroy the suspension.

You definitely have to be careful not to go off the track. The graphics are layered and when you go off of a layer there is no coming back. The most gentle off track experience has you falling in infinity.

Laurent Londes has taken another car for round 4 (Bizzarrini) and his championship points will be reset to zero.

    That's a bold decision.

Can we please get drivers to switch off their lights for qualifying and the race? It's not needed and is a distraction for other drivers.

I totally agree Maddie. Kimi's lights were blinding today.

    Good stuff!
In the zone except for one little hassle when started doing stuff while driving and had little adventure on straight after T1.
    Just loved car/track combo.
    It felt home.

Not just today, I pressed F11 and the problem was solved ;)

Anyway, first time I felt that I am part of the race and the first half was fun, although I am not sure if Michał Mazurek echos that. I risked a lot and then braked a bit too late into the turn after the hairpin and was on the roof and got teleported to the pits. The Belvédère was unforgiving because after loosing a lap, I used the hairpine as launch pad and was not falling of the track, but my suspension made the car undriveable and I thought why not falling off the map on purpose to get teleported into the pits again, for a repaired car. Which sounds way more easy, if your car only wants to drive in circles, but I made it...

A shame, but well, two possibilities to go to drive at least a trouble free race.

They will at least be fun. The Feldbergring and little Nordschleife are very racey tracks.

I was being hunted last night by Maddie and Laurent with their muscle-cars. I had a good pace in the Alfa, but to my surprise, the Bizzarini and Corvette were doing pretty good in the first 2 sectors with all the swisty corners. I could run away 1 second and then they got that back in sector 3 with the power straights.
When the tyres worn, I made a little mistake that allowed Maddie to pass me, but thats all it takes. Under pressure did another mistake and Laurent passed me also.
But it was fun, so it's all good :)

I had a power cut at my place literally at the beginning of the qualification, and it came back only during the night. It's so frustrating
