https://www.youtube.com/live/DInDPH-gnEU?si=7f00Vp7Aon-9BPA1&t=271 I will put chapters in a bit later... I now need hydration and food Let's get some NASCARs/Trucks around Daytona now! Confused the hell out of me on broadcast seeing an indycar pacecar and not a real one!
What a fun event! Thanks, Woodee for the last-minute broadcast! My band had a 3hr concert the night before & we all spent the night at the venue! (The Point Casino Resort & Hotel) I was in no shape to drive after the gig lol .. But I did make it home in time to race! Grats to Nick & the rest of the podium! I had an old set from the last time I raced Indy from 2020 so I just went with that .. I hit the walls a few times & had some near-catastrophes with some drivers, sorry if I caused any major incidents .. My old set had a pit strategy for tires and full tanks for 3 stops, and it's a good thing it did. For some reason, my pit menu thumb pad did not work during the race. Everything was frozen, so I couldn't make any adjustments like to remove repair, add less fuel etc.. If I had gotten a drive-through, I would not have been able to select it to clear .. Luckily, that didn't happen, but I couldn't stop the default repairs and spent 16-20 seconds for repairs after bumping the walls on 2 of my 3 stops.. After the race I re-assigned the thumb pad & now its working .. Strange that it still showed it was correct in the menu so I simply re did it and it works now .. Thanks for the laps guys !!
yea that caught me out too until ken mentioned it whilst on the pace lap. My first online oval race so had no idea how it was gonna go, did not do any long runs so was learning how to manage the right front as the stint went on, good battle at the start to get into the lead, i'm glad we don't have cautions in other races as they were getting annoying the after the 2nd one, managed to get into a good rhythm, was a bit tricky lapping some cars with the understeer caused by dirty air but did not have an issue with lapping anyone. Well done to Ed Jones for a good alternate strategy, if the race had been 85 laps he would have won lol, and Ken and Philip for keeping me honest.
just watching the broadcast now, the best intro music to a sim race ever Neil, Rob is gonna have to up his game
I think I know why the safety car didn't appear. The series seemed to use the "CorvettePCLights.veh", other series will use the default "CorvettePC.veh". I'm on the hunt for it before I duplicate an existing workshop one with an SRO skin.
Yeah, thanks for the broadcast, no need to elaborate - most of it is in there. Nice try Ed, as soon as I noticed that you backed out, I was worried because there was nothing I could do. The only option was to put the pedal to the medal and hope that I can catch you again. A bit of a pity for you that the bricks come so late. I was actually surprised that they are so far back Apart from that, my setup was ok for race trim, because it was easy to drive (aerowash still way to high, to stay longer in Nicks wheeltraps - congrats btw.) and treated the tyres well. But the amout of downforce was not really that fast. Most of oyu guys did a better job setting the car regarding "raw" pace, when I tried to trim out the car was umdriveable. Crashed in quali twice and run out of laps to do a lap with my race setup (As Ken said it, that did not really harm and it seems that I did a Hülkenberg lol). Not sure what I need to focus on, to get a low down force car more stable in the corners. Tried to adjust some things as the anti roll bar, but that did not really help.
Hahah, yes, but just remember, the music I use is written, performed & recorded by me in my home studio! lol
The rF2 stock cars are a great mod! JVD ran a series here a few years ago & there are a lot of oval tracks for rF2.. Also, AMS2 has Barizilan stock cars with a few oval tracks ..
..new NASCAR mod by Mike Schreiner and his team is also great.. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3406937884&searchtext=NASCAR+ really challenging.. they have also done some great tracks recently (with adjusted ai) and working on further more.. https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199484642758/myworkshopfiles/?appid=365960
One thing I did notice by commentating the broadcast (which did settle down later). Ya'll need to calm your jets on restarts
Agree 100% Neil, despite my suggestion that everyone needed to keep it together and work towards being around in the final laps with a car in good condition. For me it was a bit like a demotion derby at the start, at least that's what it felt like. Fortunately I could get repairs under the 1st yellow period which kept me on the same lap. Once we went green with no further problems I was able to work my way forward into 2nd, but Nick and I we running similar lap times so I couldn't make up any ground on him to make a difference. Two fluffed pitstops when I slightly overshot my pit box didn't help either . I had a couple of smallish contacts during this period which lost a little top speed, so when it came to the final stop I decided to take body repairs as I wasn't positive about being able to stay ahead of Philiip without them. That added to my pit time of course, so that added to an extra 5+ seconds(?) dropped me back from him too far to catch by the chequered flag. Another 10-15 laps might have been different, but that's one of those "what if" moments typical of a competitive race like this was. Thanks to everyone who ran and to Randy for his original suggestion.
I'd like to say it was some smart strategy-making on my part but it was really just the way the dice rolled. When I did my last green flag pitstop there was only like 40 laps left in the race. I knew I could make 37 laps in a stint so I decided to go for it. It's too bad I didn't realize it before the stop because I could have went another lap before pitting, which may have gave me just enough to hold Philipp and Ken off. I found out it's not easy saving fuel in a Indy Car at Indianapolis. I knew I was going to run out of fuel on the last straight, but was hoping I would have enough of a gap to coast home before Philipp got me. No such luck! It was fun trying.
Thanks lars! I just downloaded the whole lot, tracks & all! Players who have never gotten into the whole NASCAR (oval & road) have a dim view of how intense and rewarding this style of racing is ..The strategies of pit stops, fuel and tire wear are like a game of chess.. I wish we had enough of a player base to put a NASCAR series together.. It was some of the most exciting driving I've done in simracing .. Years ago, we had the stock car mods along with the trucks in one of the leagues I was in .. I miss those days lol
