    GRAN PREMIO DI PESCARA 1957

The 1957 Pescara Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race, held on 18 August 1957, at the Pescara Circuit near Pescara in Italy. The race was the 7th round of the 1957 World Championship of Drivers. The 25.579 km (15.894 mi) circuit is the longest to ever hold a world championship race in Formula One. The race was the first and only Formula One World Championship race to take place at the track. It was also the first of two consecutive Italian races, which meant that it was the first time that the same country had held two Formula One World Championship races in the same season.

Pending the investigation for the deaths of 13 people at Mille Miglia earlier that year, Enzo Ferrari stated that Ferrari would not compete in the race. However, he did enter a single Ferrari 801 after he received insistent requests from Luigi Musso, though he stated that this did not constitute an official Ferrari entry into the race.

Despite a ban on all motor races on public roads following the disaster, the race was given special permission by the Italian Government to go ahead. The track was modified to conform with new safety regulations introduced after the accident. A chicane was added at the end of the seafront straight.

    ***********************************************************************************************

Although the track is 25 km long, you basically only need to learn Sector 1, which is curvy. Sectors 2 and 3 are just 2 big straights.

    SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT PESCARA

Like the real Pescara, this track is bumpy in sector 1. You have to know where the tricky parts are to anticipate them.

Driving this track (or any other in this series), my general feeling is that the F1 1950s mod has to be driven smooth and progressively. You have to do everything in advance and take your time doing it. Braking, setting up for a corner and especially throttle application out of corners. You can't slam the throttle down like a TC GT3 car. You have to feed it in, or the car will go sideways a number of times.

All cars have hardly any setup options, so it all comes down to the driver and his sense of finding grip and cornering ability.

I tested all cars on Rouen 55 for topspeed and handling. My conclusion is that all cars have the same topspeed of around 262 km/h (on Rouen) and the difference comes from the car handling itself.
Fuel consumption for all cars is around 2.39 to 2.49 litres per lap (on Rouen). So, the cars are pretty close together. Not the car, but you as a driver, have to make the difference.
And that is nice. No setup tricks, just driving :)

Thanks for the opportunity to drive these cars. The first time I drove them, I was sent back to the day I first drove GPL. It was that much fun and challenging.
I hope to make all the races. I'll be driving the Aston Martin for the series. It's got a shitty dashboard display but that's ok :)
    Cheers!

For the bumpy sector 1, I have found that setting up the car very soft makes a big change in stability.
Also, through trial and error, I've learned not to shift gears in corners, because that kicks the rear out. Also don't shift down too early while the revs are still too high. Then you go sideways. And learn where the bumps and uneven parts are on the track, so you don't shift up gears right at that spot!

I hope we have as few DNF's as possible.
Here is my setup for the Cooper Climax.

Survival, even at 50% damage, will be tough.

A bit of throttle dicipline will increase that a lot. I just need to have some dicipline to aply it.

What sort of laptimes are people doing around here?

It's between 9.03.xxx and 9.50.xxx depending on how much one practices. A normal save lap is 9.18.xxx.
Fuel is 9.91 litres per lap for me in the Cooper, but fuel rate is pretty much the same for all cars.

I practised a little bit, but it's going to be difficult to stay on track! Even with the softer suspension settings, things can quickly get out of hand. Anyway it's really fun

    DRIVERS BRIEFING

    1. All events of this series will be broadcast
    Broadcaster: Neil Wood

    2. Pescara Conditions
    a) The race will start at 01:00 PM (in-game time of course).
    b) Time acceleration is normal. Fuel = normal, tyres = normal.
    c) Cut Track points are set to 6
    d) 50% damage
    e) The weather is dry
    f) Qualifying is 25 minutes. A lap is approx. 9.30.xxx minutes long. So you will have an 1 out-lap and 1 timed lap.
When I see that everyones seconds lap is done, I will advance to warm-up, so we don't have to wait for people to complete a third lap.

    3. This event has a standing start. No formation lap

    4. PUNTING:
    - If you punt a driver, you have to stop and give the track position back.
    - If you are not able to give the track position back, you have to do a pitlane drive-through.
    - If you do not give the position back or do a drive-through, you will go 3 positions down in the end result after the race.
    - Drivers who are punted can report to me, John van der Geest/admin, if the offender did none of the above.

    5. The use of the Esc key in Qualification
Use of the Esc key during Qualifying is the equivalent of stopping your car and getting out. This may be done only in your pit stall. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Here are the only two we will currently consider. These exceptions are subject to change at any time:
    1. You run out of fuel in the pit lane before reaching your pit stall.
    2. You sustain damage to your car as a result of another driver and cannot make it back to your pit stall. You must prove your qualifying session was wrecked by another driver and that you made an attempt to return to pit lane.

If you use the Esc key in any location other than your pit stall, your Qualifying session is over and you may not return to the track.

    6. You can find the password for the race server on the Pescara event page.

    7. Unregistering in time if you can't make it.

    8. Please use the SAME NAME in the rFactor 2 game as on our SRO signup list or it won't match in our automated result processing.

You can change your name in the rFactor 2 "Profile" menu.

    9. If you plan to PROTEST another driver, you have to wait 24 hours counting from the end of the race.
Any protest filed before that time will be viewed as not received. You can find the rules about submitting a protest here.

    10. You can find the server by typing SRO or the track name. Add the server to your favourites so you can always find it.
If you can't find the server in the rFactor 2 server list, you can access this way:
    1. click on this link: https://simracepackages.lima-city.de/rF2server/
    2. scroll down to "SRO" (it's alphabetical)
    3. choose the correct server and join with the password (see point 4 above)
    4. the server will start automatically and will take you to the event

Last but not least ... SIMRACINGONLINE wishes you a great race!
And always remember that your fellow SRO members have also put in a lot of time practising for this race,
so please be careful and respectful with your buddies. :)
