    GRAND PRIX DER SACHSENRING 1967

    THE HISTORY OF SACHSENRING
The Sachsenring was founded by Sepp Wagner and Paul Berger in the 1920s when they wanted to build on the motorcycle races that had already been held in the Hohenstein-Ernstthal area. Although their plan met with the disapproval of many locals, it was still successful, and in 1927, the first race was held on the new track.

The variant then measured 8.618 kilometres long. The circuit had something of everything - very fast passages, slow hairpins and frequent elevation changes. Although the circuit was popular, it was often the scene of accidents. The 1928 edition brought several injuries and even a fatality. For this reason, local officials decided to stop the race.

Fans had to wait until 1934 for the next race. In this case, the race was held as the German Grand Prix and was part of the European Championship. In the very first year after the track was returned to service, it was once again shown how dangerous it was. Accidents there killed Erik Haps, as well as European champions Gunnar Kalén and Pol Demeuter. In 1937, Jimmie Guthrie, another European champion, lost his life here. It was from the 1937 season onwards that the circuit started to use the name Sachsenring.

After the war, the first races were held in 1949, and in 1961 the Sachsenring was even included in the World Championship calendar. There it became the venue for the East German Grand Prix, which ran until 1972.

The foundation stones of the new era of the Sachsenring were laid in 1995 when a driver training centre was built south of the original route, which sparked the desire to return to the Sachsenring to race on the newly created variant. And this actually happened in 1996. The circuit still included sections of the original variant, but only to a lesserextent. It also started to be raced in the opposite direction to before. After the modifications, the circuit was only 3.517 kilometres long.

In 1998, itfinally returned to the World Championship and replaced the Nürburgring as host of the German Grand Prix.

    Track replacement

I discovered that in VR the background in Reims pops in next to the car as you drive. On a monitor that doesn't happen, but still ... half the field is on VR.

So I've decided to replace that track with the Sachsenring 1967. I will try to get the background popping in with VR fixed, but for now it is too distrackting for VR players.
But the replacement is a very exciting track and you will get a lof of fun out of it.
For more info, look at the video in post #1.

I think this track is going to give me a cramp in my pucker. I recall dreading it in Grand Prix Legends, too.

I'm doing extra laps here, so I know where to be careful. I drove it in rFactor 1 and especially the last section of sector 3 with the highspeed corners has to be learned. There, its all about throttle aplication. Still, one doesn't have to go for a world-record lap. One can choose to do it save and win places like that.

Lots of blind crests and dips... some corners looking the same. Interesting to see that real world video and how it compares in game.

    DRIVERS BRIEFING

    1. All events of this series will be broadcast
    Broadcaster: Neil Wood

    2. Sachsenring 67 Conditions
    a) The race will start at 01:00 PM (in-game time of course).
    b) Time acceleration is normal. Fuel = normal, tyres = normal.
    c) Cut Track points are set to 6
    d) 50% damage
    e) The weather is dry
    f) Qualifying is 10 minutes.
    g) There is no extra point for fastest lap. Sorry for the confusion in round 1 about that.

    3. This event has a standing start. No formation lap

    4. PUNTING:
    - If you punt a driver, you have to stop and give the track position back.
    - If you are not able to give the track position back, you have to do a pitlane drive-through.
    - If you do not give the position back or do a drive-through, you will go 3 positions down in the end result after the race.
    - Drivers who are punted can report to me, John van der Geest/admin, if the offender did none of the above.

    5. The use of the Esc key in Qualification
Use of the Esc key during Qualifying is the equivalent of stopping your car and getting out. This may be done only in your pit stall. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Here are the only two we will currently consider. These exceptions are subject to change at any time:
    1. You run out of fuel in the pit lane before reaching your pit stall.
    2. You sustain damage to your car as a result of another driver and cannot make it back to your pit stall. You must prove your qualifying session was wrecked by another driver and that you made an attempt to return to pit lane.

If you use the Esc key in any location other than your pit stall, your Qualifying session is over and you may not return to the track.

    6. You can find the password for the race server on the Sachsenring 67 event page.

    7. Unregistering in time if you can't make it.

    8. Please use the SAME NAME in the rFactor 2 game as on our SRO signup list or it won't match in our automated result processing.

You can change your name in the rFactor 2 "Profile" menu.

    9. If you plan to PROTEST another driver, you have to wait 24 hours counting from the end of the race.
Any protest filed before that time will be viewed as not received. You can find the rules about submitting a protest here.

    10. You can find the server by typing SRO or the track name. Add the server to your favourites so you can always find it.
If you can't find the server in the rFactor 2 server list, you can access this way:
    1. click on this link: https://simracepackages.lima-city.de/rF2server/
    2. scroll down to "SRO" (it's alphabetical)
    3. choose the correct server and join with the password (see point 4 above)
    4. the server will start automatically and will take you to the event

Should the fastest lap point be removed from the first round? I want to make sure I have the points correct.

Qualifying was ruined by the track limits being broken. Put 2 tyres on the grass and it invalidated my lap.

Had a good start and got alongside into T1, but he cut across my nose, causing us to almost crash. Afterwards it was just a chase to try and catch Julien and Toni for 1st and 2nd. Eventually Toni took the lead from Julien and I managed to get past Julien shortly after. Toni just pulled away and I didn't have the pace or tyres to catch, so it was dull until the end. Had a moment near the end where a driver span in front but didn't hold their brakes, so that was fun.

I'm just a bit confused in how to set up this car and seem to have the worst tyre wear out of almost everyone. The car wants to die over every bump, so I'm really wondering if others have found setups to help with this.

My race today was short lived. Had a better start than last week and followed the 4 Coopers in front of me. On the 2nd lap I was taking it easy not to overheat the tires but had a bit too much speed in the right turn before the hairpin in the city section. Hit the hailbails with the rear and the car ran up the wall and I hit the post and it knocked off a wheel. That was it unfortunately... Looking forward driving Dundrod next week.

Continued to watch the broadcast in the living room. Good racing all... Incredible pace Toni... Congrats with the win and to everyone who survived... and nicely commentated by Neil... Keep up the good work.

It's true that these cars are responsive over bumps, but I like to think that it's the way these old cars were with classic springs and dampers.
Setting up the cars very soft in Pescara helped a lot.

Looked like a tough course! Pity a bit low on numbers today, hoping we get a few back for next time. Dundrod is going to be TOUGH so get those corners memorised, no room for track limits there! :)
