The Nürburgring Südschleife (South Loop) was a 7.747 km (4.8-mile) racetrack opened in 1927 alongside the famous Nordschleife, forming a 28.265 km (17.5-mile) combined circuit known as the "Gesamtstrecke".
While the Nordschleife became iconic, the Südschleife served mainly for smaller races, motorcycling, and as a faster, lesser-known "little brother" until 1982 when it was largely destroyed to build the modern Grand Prix track.
Key Facts: Combined Circuit (Gesamtstrecke) & Südschleife

• Combined Circuit (Gesamtstrecke): Between 1927 and 1931, major races used the 28.265 km configuration, combining the 22.8 km Nordschleife and the 7.7 km Südschleife, joined at the "Start und Ziel" (start/finish) area.
• Südschleife Characteristics: Comprised of 25-27 corners, it was fast and flowing but dangerous, with little runoff and trees lining the track.
• End of the South Loop: The Südschleife was largely abandoned after 1982 due to the construction of the new GP-Strecke and major safety upgrades following Niki Lauda's 1976 accident.
• Today's Remnants: While large portions of the original Südschleife have been demolished, some sections remain as public roads around Nürburg, and parts were repurposed for the entrance road to the current Grand Prix track parking.
• Racing History: The ADAC Eifelrennen was held there between 1928–1931 and 1958–1968.
