Not a bad idea. I'll get back to you on that.
For starters, I would have to test how much ballast is needed for each of those cars, or if they need all the same extra kilo's.
Maybe you guys can help me with that. When the community is involved in that process, there won't be complaints that it's too heavy or too light.

I agree! But not so much that those cars lose their uniqueness completely (higher top speed/better straight performance) compared to slower ones. They should maintain the same characteristics while being less monstrous against the other cars.

IMO we should think in the range of 30 kilo's weight balast for the Eagle/Lotus/Ferrari.

Another idea... What if everybody could choose car they like? Even it means all Eagle grids (not me thou… I just love that Lotus :) Is friday only possible day? I have already signed up for another series on Hoodeeracing and they changed schedule for me and would not want to let them down to join other series. Thursday would be perfect for me

I'm fine with that. Saves me a lot of list checking and adjusting :D

That can't be done, because the car you choose has to be assigned to the driver on the server. Rob Milliken would have to work overtime changing the cars around every week :).

What if everyone drove the SAME car & each event use's a different car LOOL :D.. so we would use every car from the mod (with exceptions) and have an even fight each round …:)

OK ,OK just an Idea ...lol

I suggest slow cars for faster pilots and fast cars for less fast pilots.
Ferrari are not so fast as Eagle/lotus.

From some tests that we did, the performance are:
    Eagle/Lotus
    +0,5 sec Ferrari
    +0,3 sec McLaren
+0,2 sec Cooper, Brabham, Honda (depends by track)
    +0,5 sec BRM
So there is more than 1,5 sec from Eagle to BRM. Of course a lot depends also from tracks.
    Just my idea.

I'm also more likely to be able to make it if it's not Friday - another weekday would be ideal for me. Any chance?

I did some test with all cars (Lotus, Eagle and Ferrari 30kg ballast), and Lotus and Eagle are still overpowered. In Monza -66 they are about second faster than e.g Brabham and BRM. Even in Monaco they are faster than others. Maybe restrictor works better than ballast.?

I was actually thinking the same. Adding ballast will not make them that much slower on fast tracks. And looking at the track selection for this championship it's mostly fast tracks. So I'd think restrictor would be better indeed but needs some testing.

From my previous testing with the restrictor, with different cars (think it was with gt3s), even setting a 100% restrictor does not slow the cars down much, less than a second per lap.

50% restrictor does not mean the car will have half the power of a 0% restrictor.

They may restrict more with these cars, but isn't there a few seconds gap between the cars? Doubtful the restrictor will slow them sufficiently.

This is how Formula one racing is and was , manufacture's building the fastest cars they could within the F1 guidelines , speed differences are still like this today in F1 ..so If we had a modern F1 race who would take the Merc? ,who would take the Williams ? lol … 2-4 +seconds difference ! .. That's why some modders make "league" versions of there mods/cars so they are all the same for a fair fight in sim racing..
So I go back to my original suggestion ..lol
    Round 1 "The cooper"
    Round 2 "The eagle"
    Round 2 "The Brab"
ectt….:D That's if you want fair fights where is all down to driver skill .. I wont say even fights because aliens are going to be faster no matter the cars lol. :p

I totally agrre with Rob if we're talking about a championship in which everone must have to chance to compete, at least, for the points. This mod is epic but is totally unblanced especially if we talk about tracks with long straights. The attempt to do a Balance of Performance would request at least a month of very hard training by a bunch of volunteers. Something that I would avoid with pleasure :) It's really an hard work and the success along the progression of the championship is absolutely not guaranteed. There are some cars that in a lot of tracks are out of any chance to get even a point, unless there's a carnage during the race.
We will like some cars more and some less, but we'll have the chance to drive the entire field of cars of this great mod and nobody will have a complaint about the performance of his car.
And may the Master of the drift triumph :p

I'm really torn between all the suggestions.

I think the current BOP won't work. Having fast guys drive slower cars is something I really like, but I think it will be tough to decide who is fast and should get a slow car and who is not. And the idea to switch cars between each round and all drive the same car surely evens the field out but you loose the aspect of driving against cars with different characteristics.

Looks like almost everyone will pick a fast car now. I'd say restrictor instead of ballast. My thoughts.

Laurent's doubt on how to determine how much fast is a driver, is right.
I think everyone knows, roughly, how fast he is himself. Also last championship's laptimes (considering on what car did too) could be useful.

Even if the cars are not balanced, according to our tests, there are some cars with similar perfomances (but with totally different handling). I'm talking about McLaren, Cooper, Brabham and Honda. Maybe McLaren is a bit faster and she is also friendly. Instead Honda is a bit slower but faster on fast track (as Monza). So 4 different cars quite even.
I think most drivers could choose these cars. Those who feel more in difficulty with laptimes, could choose Eagle (friendly car), Lotus (dangerous car) or Ferrari. For those who want to play very hard and is a masochist, surely the BRM, knowing she is half second slower than the "group" (Cooper, Brabham, Honda, McLaren).

I don't like the idea of a car for round. It's nice to see the grid with different cars. If you want to make a single-brand, then the Lotus 49 of AC (which remains the best, in my opinion).
