    Istanbul Park

The former venue of the Turkish Grand Prix is located in crossing of boundaries of Pendik and Tuzla districts on the Asian side of Istanbul, close to the junction of Kurtköy on the north side of the Motorway 4, linking Istanbul to Ankara. It is adjacent to the newly constructed Sabiha Gökçen International Airport and is surrounded by forests and fields.

The Istanbul Park racing circuit was one of only five circuits running anticlockwise in the 2011 Formula One season, the others being Autódromo José Carlos Pace (used for the Brazilian Grand Prix), the Marina Bay Street Circuit (used for the Singapore Grand Prix), the Korea International Circuit (used for the Korean Grand Prix) and the Yas Marina Circuit (used for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix). The circuit is 5.338 km (3.317 mi) long, with an average width of 15 m (49 ft) ranging from 14 to 21.5 m (46 to 71 ft), and covers over 2.215 million square metres (547 acres). With a total of 14 corners, the sharpest with a radius of merely 15 m (49 ft), the circuit runs over four different ground levels with a start/finish straight over 650 m (2,133 ft) in length. The total race distance of the Turkish Grand Prix is 309.356 km (192.225 mi) over 58 laps.

The track has capacity for approximately 125,000 spectators. The main grandstand has a seating capacity of 25,000 spectators, with natural ground stands and temporary stands allowing for around 100,000 more people. The paddock buildings are two-level structures; the ground floor reserved for racing teams, the upper floor serving as hospitality areas, with an additional viewing capacity of 5,000 seats. At each end of the paddock, there are two 7-story VIP towers.

The circuit and its facilities were designed by the well-known racetrack architect Hermann Tilke, who said he designed the track to try to catch the drivers out. The inaugural Turkish Grand Prix certainly caught the drivers out, with many drivers spinning off throughout the weekend.

Turn 8 has rapidly become the most famous corner of the track.
Turn 8 (nicknamed "Diabolica" by some in reference to Monza's Curva Parabolica) particularly caught the imagination. The corner is a fast, sweeping corner with four apexes, similar to one of the multi-apex sections of the old Nürburgring. Spectators and drivers alike raved about Turn 8, comparing it to legendary corners such as Eau Rouge and 130R. The circuit itself has already been compared to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Another notable corner is Turn 1, a sharp downhill left-hander immediately after the front straight. This corner has been nicknamed by some as the "Turkish Corkscrew" in reference to the famous Corkscrew at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Both the 2006 F1 and MotoGP races at the circuit featured multiple incidents at this corner. A third noteworthy area is the uphill kink in the middle of the back straight; due to its similarity to Eau Rouge, it has been jokingly referred to as "Faux Rouge".

The circuit is not, however, without its critics. After qualifying, Jenson Button claimed that the track was getting bumpier as the weekend went on, particularly at Turn 8, which was what caused so many drivers to spin off. This harks back to another circuit designed by Hermann Tilke, Shanghai International Circuit, which is said to be sinking in places because it was built on the site of a former swamp. Jarno Trulli was notable for his lukewarm feeling towards the circuit, saying that he felt the circuit was easy to learn, and that good performance was down more to the car than the driver.

Seems so be an anti-Tilke movement around but I'm really on his fan side. :D:D

Yes it’s a good circuit. The very final part annoys me though. Feels too slow. Lol

well that was disappointing. knew id be slow but im no where close to anyone. nothing but a moving speed bump out there at this point.too much damage and was miles from anyone to carry on..prob sit out the rest unless I find some miracle pace from somewhere.

I know how you feel Erick ! lol seriously I do ….:D I'm a back marker most of the time & sometimes it's hard to just sit there & be lapped . But even knowing that I find great racing , Today I took myself out of a few positions by being to aggressive on the gas trying to somehow find where I'm so far off pace by pushing in the wrong spots :confused::D. Its a learning curve & once you start to understand how to go slower to be faster it all starts to happen ;), meaning slow (under control) in & early out , back on the gas asap threw the apex's , its not the law tho , some situations you need to be late in like the last section of sector 3 after the long run up the hill (one of the places I was good today lol) ..
In practice take it easy for a few laps Lining up the apex's at slow speeds without pushing this will teach you where your best exits will be & where you can late break .. smooth is fast !

I had a fun race thanks Toni for the PCC set ! man it was fast , umm well he was with it ..instantly started dropping from my 16th pole spot , but 17th and back must have had issues as there was a gap .. went for 3sc's back 7sec's back 12sec's back lol as the pack of 15th & on pulled away , & trying to push I spun .., ok long race anything can happen !
Spent the first half of the race trying to be a good back marker ..lol

Then After 15 20 laps being passed by the LMP2's a few times :p I saw another GT3 car up ahead ! another 911,it was Karl ;) always great racing with you Karl ! You defended beautifully lap after lap as I kept looking for a way around lol then with around 10-12 min to go I got greedy again and on the gas to soon & around she went , We had our own private PCC 911 cup race going on up to then lol , I kept pushing tho & by the last min I had closed from 7sec's back to 2 and could see him up ahead ! but it was to little to late ..lol
Had a lot of fun none the less ! see you next round ! we are going Down Under !! The Mountain , I keep getting visions of pin ball machines on the down hill …

All of three Czech participants of yesterday´s race thank to you for our first experience with racing on SRO server. We still have to learn many things about LMP´s physic and tactic during the ninety minutes race. For example how is possible to run this distance with only one pit stop?? Any way, thank you again and see you next time on a track.

P.S. Excuse me for my English which is not my native language

Those sneaky guys where fuel saving. You know, short-shifting and lifting the throttle early before the braking zone :)

That was a tough race, such a fast track and easy to make small mistakes on. So firstly well done to everyone who made it to the end. Well done to Roberto on the victory in GT3.

Qualifying went ok, in private practice I managed some 40’s and on one lap was on for a 39 but lost some time in the final sector. However for one reason or another I couldn’t repeat it in qualifying last night. I was a few tenths up on the John on one run but messed up the final part of the lap (stupid kerbs!) and lost time, however P2 on the grid was good and it was my only clean lap with no traffic anyway.

At the start both myself and John overcooked it into turn one! He went off further than me but we both managed to recover and carry on. I tried to keep with John the best I could and then started to try and fuel save and peg the gap between myself and those behind.

John then had a sideways moment and I went into the lead so just did my best maintain the gap, however the traffic was tough for this one. Nobody’s fault but I just kept catching people in the middle of corners or into turn 8, and I was losing so much time trying to get past, so I lost the lead and then dropped to 4th. However we were all still close together, I was fuel saving so I could make it more than half way and I just tried to keep within touch.

I was looking at the gap between myself, John and Lukas so I assumed (or hoped) they were on a two stopper, Eric had got me into the final chicane but wasn’t pulling away so I guessed that we were on the same strategy and trying to make it on one stop.

Lukas stopped first, and then John, and Eric and myself stopped with about 35 minutes to go. So I knew I could make it to the end, whereas John and Lukas would have to stop again.

Eric was ahead after the pitstop and I was maintaining the gap to a few seconds, not sure what happened but he lost time on one lap (or stopped again?) and I was past.

So I just tried to keep pace with John, car felt really good after the pitstop, managed to lap in low 43’s almost every lap, just to make sure he didn’t pull away too much.

John made his final stop to get fuel to the end and I went into the lead.

I was pulling away from Eric at this point (not much but enough to be comfortable) but I knew that John could go flat out on his final stint (and would be much faster than me) so I just tried to be consistent.

However I started to have a tough time again in traffic, it felt like every lap I caught someone into turn 8, so I started to lose a lot of time. I think I did some 44’s and 45’s at some point so I knew that Eric and John would start catching me very quickly.

Managed to make it to the end though and grab the victory, thanks so much to the orange McLaren who let me through on the final lap, I was flashing my lights so much into the final chicane as I could see John in my mirrors and I just didn’t want to lose any time! Lol.

Been on SRO for two years and this is my first victory so very pleased and I’ve tried to be as consistent as possible in every race.

I’m not as naturally gifted as some of you so I have to just work very hard at matching your pace, but so pleased to finally get a win.

Lastly an apology to two GT3 cars that I made contact with whilst lapping in the race. I was alongside both times but in both cases we made quite hard contact, in the BMW’s case he went round so very sorry. Not my style at all.

Bathurst next, this one is going to be so tough for multiclass and traffic will be really difficult. If I get a top four round there I’ll be happy.

Yeah I think if we get around 20 cars again we'll be ok. A huge field will be very tough around Mount Panorama though. If you caught a backmarker at the top of the hill you would have no choice but to follow them down to the start of Conrod straight. Just too narrow. I was thinking back to the Bathurst 12 hours and remembering where they lapped people on that occasion.

Stick with it though my friend, these cars are hard work but as someone mentioned above, they don't like being overdriven which takes some time to get used to.

Hoping to see you at Bathurst :)

SRO doesn't post replays on the result list since all sims provide replays within the game itself :).
Of course, members can post their own replay upload links here.

I didn't bother to save fuel, because I want to go flat out always. I can't help myself :D.

Yeah Andrew, I was daydreaming a few times and missed my braking points. I bet I got your attention when I showed up in your mirrors on the last lap LOL :p. I saw that you were hampered by a GT3 in sector 3, so it was very close to the finish line. But when you got into the chicane first, I knew you had it.
Excellent drive and strategy man, well deserved!!

Also grats to Roberto Balli for his GT3 win. Good effort!
