Welcome to round 1 Mosport 2019.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mosport Park and Mosport International Raceway) is a multi-track motorsport venue located north of Bowmanville, in Ontario, Canada. The facility features a 2.459-mile (3.957 km), (length reduced through wider track re-surfacing done in 2003) 10-turn road course; a 2.9 km advance driver and race driver training facility with a quarter-mile skid pad (Driver Development Centre) and a 1.5 km kart track (Mosport Kartways).

The track was designed and built in the late 1950s. The first race to be held on the track was a local event organized by the Oakville Light Car Club in June 1961. Shortly thereafter, on June 35, the venue held its first major race, the Player's 200, a sports car race bringing drivers from the world over to rural Ontario. Stirling Moss won the two-heat event in a Lotus 19. Second was Joakim Bonnier with Olivier Gendebien third. The proposed hairpin was expanded into two discrete corners, to be of greater challenge to the drivers and more interesting for the spectators, at his suggestion, and is named Moss Corner in his honour. This is a source of lingering confusion as many people call the track Mossport. Unlike many historic motorsport venues, Mosport's track layout has remained mostly unchanged from its original form.

Until race day, then they'll be one up for each round as the series progresses.

How do you add a Team? my team mate 'Giacomo Verlini' applied last night but had problems registering to the site, he messaged admin.

I did receive his email as with all new registrations, we do a few checks first to make sure they are not spammers and to keep our community safe.

With all new registrations they can not post or sign up for any race (or series) until approved
    .
His account was approved this morning.

If you want to create a team, tell me the name of the team and who, besides yourself, you would like to be in it :)

I have replaced the video in post 1 with a demo race, using the actual track and cars from the series.

Can someone give me an idea of a reasonable time around Mosport?

I love these cars but I’m hopeless in Assetto Corsa. Just can’t live with the tyre model at all. I tried the first round of this series last time and I was about 10 seconds a lap off the pace.

It was the same with the Group C’s as well. If I wasn’t last I felt pretty good! Lol

However I’m thinking of giving it another try after a bit of a break. I don’t want to sign up though without doing some laps first and seeing how I am.

Anywhere in 1.16.xxx on race setup is good enough to fight for a top 10 place.
There are still places for the Ferrari 550, Lister and Viper.
I can give you a setup for the Ferrari 550 and Lister. Yusuf Macit can give you a baseline setup for the Viper. I'm sure he won't mind.
But it's filling up quick, so don't wait too long to make a choise :)

I haven't driven Mosport yet, but if you tell me which car you want to drive, then I can do the setup and share with you and tell you what time I get.

I drive the Viper and I just got around to it yesterday to drive Mosport for the first time ever, and I was able to manage lap times around 1:16.500 with little to no changes to the setup. I am very certain that this time can be improved after I spend more time on the track. But as John said, lap times around 1.16.xxx, especially on race setup, are NOT SLOW! So don't get frustrated If you are not hitting those times.

If you are 10 seconds off the pace, then it is much much easier to improve, you are not trying to shave tenths here, but seconds! You should think about this.
Drive the car at an average speed first, not too fast or not too slow, try to be patient and learn the track, imagine as if it was all real, and you cannot damage the car as you like. I have had a friend who was really impatient about this stuff, and he was always blaming his wheel setup or the physics of the game (I am not saying that they are great), but with enough practice, you will eventually get faster even with inferior equipment, as my friend did. He was often too impatient, always early on the throttle, which often resulted in him ending up in the wall by spinning the car out. Key point is to start slow first and then increase speed gradually. This advice may seem so obvious, but often we find ourselves going pedal to the metal just because we wish to hear better that roaring v8 maybe.

I am nowhere near as fast as Henri here, but this is how I practice in Assetto Corsa especially for a track that I have never driven before:
    1) If possible, watch some real-life onboard footage of a car on the same track and identify the corners on the track. I repeat this like 5 to 10 times before going on track in the simulator.
    2) Get on the track and cruise around at an average speed, but try to remember slow mid and fast corners. When I think I got it, I gradually increase my speed, and sometimes it is still possible to mistake one corner for another and bin it. This is totally fine, we learn from experience, and at that moment we should be just thankful that it is not actually real-life. ^^
    3) Once I increase my speed according to the track, I start to monitor my tyre pressures and temperatures, this is a vital part. I know nothing about engineering, but I learned a few things through visual data which Assetto Corsa gives me through the tyre monitor window, and I make necessary changes to the tyres until they are optimal and suitable for the track by which I mean: they look "green" in terms of both temperature and pressure, after I drive for say 3-4 laps.
    4) Once I sort the tyres out, then I do not touch the setup at all. Maybe it's a good idea, maybe not. But I leave the car as it is and try to do 5 consecutive laps within .5 seconds of one another. The lap time does not matter, it is only important that those consecutive lap times are close to each other. If I am able to do this, then I can tell that I know the track well.
    5) Then I start working on the setup from there. Make one or two changes at a time and try to do another 5 laps if it's not working well, revert the change, and try something else.

There is much more I can talk about, but I am at work, and I can only share so little. If you wish to practice together for the series, I could help you out with that as well. :)

Note: If the main trouble you are having in Assetto Corsa is car control, then I highly recommend you to join into those drift servers and drift the s*** out of that m3 e30 until you are able to do a full lap around the circuit while drifting. I am not joking. It helped me and by A LOT.

Hiya, thanks for the advice and help with Assetto Corsa.

Yes it's strange, I'm ok with all the sims I race on, except for AC and I've never been able to put an exact finger on why.

I'm quite a smooth driver, I don't steer harshly or brake harshly, I try and focus on carrying speed through the apex. Slow in, fast out is what I aim for.

I can normally lap very consistently, except for AC.

I did a league in the MX-5 cup cars some years ago, and spent hours and hours practising (working up to a good lap time, on my own and against AI, watched Youtube videos for reference), heel and toeing, getting the setup right for myself and yet I still struggled badly come race day. Admittedly I was only about two to three seconds off the pace but I was still last in every race (usually a lap down). So I ended up with zero points. Which as you can imagine after all the effort was a bit confidence destroying.

I suppose what annoys me is the feeling of driving on ice all the time, I got fed up with other drivers driving into the back of me because I was having to go so much slower than them to make the corner. So whatever it is AC specialists do on this sim is obviously something I don't do at all! lol :)

However, many thanks for the advice and I'll certainly try the sim again to see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong :)

Are the tire pressure bars on the tire app green? If they are not, like blue (too low) or red (too high), then that would explain the feeling of driving on ice.

I just got back to AC for this series. Got the same feeling (poor control, ice track...etc) no matter set up changes, couldn.t improve....So decided to change my wheel and game ffb settings. This gave me almost 5 secs, although I.m still slow (lows 1.18 actually). Just an idea....
