Deep within the game there are variables to change the car skins & sponsors ,for now its a bit messy as they plan to have the user friendly feature in the UI soon ,but for now you can mess around with colors and all if your brave enough to mess with the .json.. once created it can be uploaded to the server and you can have your skin online , these are static selectable items ! meaning, No you cannot create your own , you can only choose from what's available & the colors are number coded ,this is due to Blancpain licensing , so no custom self made photo shop stuff ,but it does have some nice choices to use . FelixR1991 has created this nice tutorial to use until kunos add the feature to the UI > http://felixdicit.com/change-livery-in-acc/
Hers one I came up with after looking at the guide If you want to have a go and to use your skin on the sro server edit the file that will go in the servers "cars" folder for customs ,you find it attached for the McLaren from the guide .. To ready it for the server rename test_car.json to your_name.json .. use the guide and change the numbers around , Sadly for now the only way to view & test the results is to follow the guide and start a lan server ..
UPDATE 23rd October: As of v1.1, you can also put the ‘test_car.json’ file into your documents folder. This will allow you to look at the car in the showroom (like this), and best of all: select it for multiplayer to drive on any server you wish without having to send your json files to any server owners. To do this, just follow this path: C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Assetto Corsa Competizione\Customs\Cars
Reminder : The new 2019 cars do NOT have templets yet . If you have a skin assigned to one of the older versions of a 2019 car it will load the old car Example : I have a skin = the silver Porsche 911 GT3 , If I try to use the new 2019 Porsche GT3 on our server (my skin files are on the server) it gives me my older skin/car. Then if I join a different server it works fine with the new car body/default skins .. I DO NOT have my skins in MY Documents yet so I don't know if this will have the same effect ..
Update: after removing my skin from the server files and adding them to my documents folder on my pc I can now pick it from the UI and use it where ever I want> sp or mp ! cool stuff & allows us to skip the biggest hassle regarding custom skins ,that's having to load them all on the server (like AC1) .. This is all possible because of the way ACC lets you create (or not create) , you can NOT make your own stickers or paints ,you can only build from the tools they offer within the software but the color band is huge and the styles are many and optional with a lot of combos to create so lots of choices .. all this is already in the game so your creation will show on any server or single player session you join without having to add anything other then the test_car.json to the cars folder in Documents/Acc/customs/cars folder
No , it's an In game tool that we are using the back door to use until they release the feature within the UI .. kunos gave us a way to hack the skins for players that want to explore until they add the feature to the UI selection where it will simply be look, pick, click, apply ..
