    1991 Brazilian Grand Prix

The 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Interlagos on 24 March 1991. It was the second race of the 1991 Formula One World Championship.

The 71-lap race was won from pole position by local driver Ayrton Senna, driving a McLaren-Honda. It was the first time Senna had won his home Grand Prix, in his eighth season of F1. Riccardo Patrese finished second in a Williams-Renault, with Senna's teammate Gerhard Berger third.

Ayrton Senna made a perfect start to lead from Nigel Mansell, Riccardo Patrese, Jean Alesi, Gerhard Berger and Alain Prost, building up a lead of some 3 seconds by lap 8. However Mansell was closing and by lap 20 the gap was down to 0.7s. On lap 17 Prost pitted for new tires, keen to avoid being stuck behind Nelson Piquet's Benetton. Mansell pitted on lap 26, but the stop was terrible - lasting over 14 seconds. This returned him to the race in 4th place behind Patrese and Alesi. After Senna and Patrese had made their stops, Mansell was some 7 seconds behind the lead McLaren. There seemed no doubt that Senna would be caught but the chance never arose as on lap 50 Mansell had to stop for a new set of tires after a puncture caused by debris on the track. Unknown to observers, Senna's gearbox was failing, having lost fourth gear and by lap 60 the lead was halved and Mansell had set fastest lap. Yet it was Mansell's gearbox that gave way first, forcing the Williams into a spin and causing him to retire on lap 61. With just a couple of laps left, Senna had also lost fifth and third gears. Having to maintain sixth gear in slow and medium corners meant that several times he nearly stalled. Patrese was catching him rapidly, but with gearbox problems of his own he was unable to pass.

Senna won by 2.9 seconds from Patrese. When he crossed the finish line, he started to scream in celebration of achieving his dream of winning at home. The tremendous struggle of trying to keep the car under control, caused him to have muscle cramps and fever. After stopping his car, Senna was almost unable to move on his own. He had to be lifted bodily from the car due to exhaustion and driven to the podium in the medical car. Despite a small fire on the grid and a sticking throttle, Berger claimed the final podium place from Prost, Piquet and Alesi.

Not sure where to post this but here we go...

I've been working on the 643 and for a bit of fun (and a challenge) I've re-done the car in a 2008 style deep metallic red (no region maps done by ASR for these cars yet so I had to figure out a way of doing this). Added my 55 race number in the same type of typeface style. Re-did all the sponsor logos, added my helmet, and changed the race suit so my names on it.

Looks pretty good I think. Two compromises. The image map is stretched in places which distorts the metallic "flecks", and the on-board camera is part of another MAS file so if I change it to match the rest of the car it screws up the mod (and I probably couldn't join the server.) Otherwise I'm pretty happy.

Will try my best with this league, for sure it'll be very difficult but like the endurance leagues I think the best strategy is just to keep finishing and scoring points. Gonna start racking up laps from tomorrow hopefully. Feeling a bit rubbish with a lovely cold! lol

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and a fantastic 2020.

    Just an observation:

If you run boost 10 for a long time, you run the risk of blowing your engine. Especially if you downshift very fast and keep the rev's very high during braking. I don't think it's wise to run boost 10 for 90 minutes.
Don't let that surprise you after 10 laps or so. The difference between 1991 gearboxes and 2019 is very apparent. :D

You say boost but of course these cars don't have turbo's. So is this rev limit, or fuel mix in this case?

    I'm assuming rev limit?

Yes, fuel mix not boost. Sorry

No problem, just checking. Certainly useful to know, thanks :)

I was reading the 643 had huge issues with fuel usage (that thirsty V12) so they had to manage fuel consumption a lot more compared with the Honda (also a V12).

I was watching that highlights video this morning. Would be cool if we could switch off the pitlane speed limit system for these races. Roaring into the pits at 150mph, crazy days! haha :)

That is a track feature. I don't think we can change that.

I ran fuel mix 10 for 10 minutes straight without blowing it, but I was careful on the downshifts.
You should of course test it for yourself if you can make fuel mix 10 last for the entire race. Maybe you have a driving style that can do that.
You should also realize that the maximum tank capacity is 225 liters. Is that enough for 90 minutes of fuel mix 10?

I did a test with fuel mix at 10 and could not make it on fuel with my driving style...

Yeah, the tank can hold max 225 liters. On fuel mix 10 thats excaclty what I need without being in a fight all the time :D

Hopefully yes. Sometimes with these sorts of leagues you get huge sign ups, and then people realise that these cars are tough to drive and very quickly lose interest.

If we get maybe 20+ I'd be very happy with that :)

Very hard driving with these cars for an hour and a half ... (but very very funny at same time).
Finish the race(s) will always (must) be the main goal.

    Meanwhile... :(Server down?

The server is down because we are having some issues adding the new Brabham car to the pack.
Will be sorted in time :)

The server is back up and the Brabham is added.
