Do other people agree with the suggestions of Tudor and would they opt for suggestion 1 or 2?

I think a mix of both fast and handling tracks like he calls it is the best still. Like in real life. Yes, you will be at a disadvantage on some but be faster on others possibly.

    Oesterreichring 79 has been updated.

Tim has informed me that there is a newer (better) version.
Please download the update and remove the older version and install the update: Oesterreichring 79
The server is online with the new track version.

The problem is that the 935 K3 is too dominant overall. The Capri will be able to compete with the K3 on handling tracks but not on power tracks. If we have a mix of tracks, the Capri and K3 really need to be in their own class.

Best solution to run all cars on a mix of tracks as I see it....

Class 1: Capri, 935 K3 (faster drivers encouraged to drive the Capri)
Class 2: Ferrari, BMW M1, 935 K2, Lancia, Toyota, BMW 320, Escort (Free choice for all but the BMW 320 and especially Escort will be more challenging)
Class 3: BMW 2002 (car is too good to leave out if there are enough drivers want to compete in this class)

Just my opinion of course and I respect and expect others views.

I'd agree with Laurent - A mix of tracks as per real life.
To really throw the cat among the Pigeons include VERY tight tracks and you might suddenly see the underdogs coming in on top ;) (I've just been hurling the 2002 around Numuno Ziedas, totally unsuited track to race these cars on but so much fun to hotlap! - I'd hate to take the M1, Ferrari, or Pork around there..)

John - did you remove the track variation when you changed to the newer version? These laptimes are pretty irrelevant if the circuit is still changing grip level throughout testing.

    I did now :)

Personally I don’t want to race on Mickey Mouse tracks just to make the performance spread better. Nothing worse than trying to drag a car around constant tight turns if it just isn’t able or designed to do with its fixed diffs. We should mostly use tracks that were used back in the day for these cars imo.
If the K3 pork has too much of an advantage just leave it out of the set. We still have the K2 for Porsche fans.

Suggest 6 tracks then for the list :)

I already did previously in the DRM track list thread ;)
Nordschleife and Nurburgring GP work well with these cars. I'd prefer tracks that were used for the actual series back in the day but there are many great tracks about.
Also, Monza, Spa, Ostereichring, Brands Hatch, Sebring, Petit Le Mans (Road atlanta?) Fuji Speedway (with the banking)

Imola could also be good for a mixture of high speed but also twisties (as is Road Atlanta) to balance the handling v power cars over a lap.

Agreed as far as track choice but by removing the K3, the Capri then starts to look too strong when it is bundled in the same class as the remaining cars.

Oh and Osterreichring is much cooler without the spoil sport chicane. Flat out T1 is mega without it and real ball-sy  especially in these cars
Re cars, I think they should all be included. K3 935 is the ultimate beast but also takes high skill to control it on the edge. :)

If we get more votes on changing the track to "no chicane", I will change it :)

I'll vote "no chicane" for every track and every series from now on, is there button which do that automatically for me.... :)

You can't say you want to race the tracks that were used and then only list big fast tracks that they never raced at (Nords being the exception and Spa managed a one-off special).
The reality is that over half of every season was held at 'mickey mouse' circuits that were full of horrible chicanes and hairpins, on public roads or airfields.
Between '76 and '81 (the years our cars are from) the following tracks were used:

Nurburgring Nordschliefe .............. Full 22+km GP layout (6 or 7 laps - final version of old 'Nords prior to the new GP track being built)
Nurburgring Start und Zielschlief..... 2.3km - basically up and down the pit straight for an hour (track is part of the '67 Ring pack)
    Mainz-Finthen.............................. 2.1km temporary airfield. Basically a 1km straight 2 hairpins and a bunch of chicanes (1 hour-ish)
Hockenheim GP............................ Full 6.8km GP circuit (with only Clark and senna chicanes - Ost curve chicane came later) ~45 minutes
Hockenheim short......................... 2.6km layout (the '60 F3 variant for AC would be closest to what was run) ~ race length unknown
Norisring...................................... 2.3km city circuit that's so tight it makes Mallory look a bit like Spa (great track though, on RD I think) ~1Hr 10m
Diepholz...................................... 2.6km temporary airfield course. Some fast bits and some painful looking chicanes based on Youtube footage ~40-46mins
Kassel Calden ...............................2.6km temp airfield. hairpins at either end of the same runway, some VERY tight perimeter sections ~ 45-50mins
Zolder......................................... 4.3km - basically the modern layout ~40mins
Avus ('78 only)............................ 8.1km. By the time of DRM the North curve was no longer banked and chicanes were added (a 90's (shorter) version is on RD)) ~ 35mins
Zandvoort................................... 4.2km (original layout as per sandevoort '73) ~ 40-45mins
Salzburgring................................. 4.2km non-chicane version - unknown length of race
    Spa ('80 only).............................. 7km old bus-stop version ~ 45mins
Wunstorf ('81 only)...................... 5km temporary airfield circuit - actually looks quite good from the maps available but plenty of tight corners and chicanes ~ unknown distance

So basically we need at least 50% very tight technical circuits (Where the Porsche will still win based on real results ;)), the BMW's and Escort will actually be a hoot on tracks like that - Norisring in particular is great for touring cars, most of us have probably watched at least 1 DTM race from there on the telly back in the 90's..

The car selection hasn't begun yet. We'll start when it's clear how the classes will be divided and what 6 tracks are voted on :)
I can't set up the series as of yet, because those criteria are not decided on by the league.

It was meant as a joke, but also to highlight the dominance of the K3

I Listed the tracks I thought these cars would be great on (not the obscure tracks we haven’t got in AC - as far as I know). But then in hindsight mentioned Imola and Road Atlanta as they have a mix of fast and slow sections which will help balance the power v handling. Guess might want to leave chicane in at osterreich for same reason. I was already 2 secs a lap slower in the Lancia compared to the k2 pork and M1 with the chicane present. That might get a bigger gap without the chicane.
