The weather in Spa can be very unpredictable this time of year, so I recommend you find time to practice online just in case....
I need to be about for my daughter's birthday so I cant race :-( and have dereged. Have a great race guys!
So, even more Potential for utter carnage at turn 1.....there are some that appear not to be able to corner successfully in the dry on cold tyres!
Will the predicted (or scripted) weather forecast be released to all drivers? Will using non-authentic assist like ABS, TC (I would assume) add weight penalty, and if so how much?
Good question Jens, and one I was going to ask too. Will it get wetter/drier?, will it be raining at any point? What will be the tack temps over race time etc. There does seem to have been little info supplied surrounding the changes to a series which is still listed as “always dry”. So far, not as impressed with this series as I was with the last two, I may not see this one out.
I'm surprised at such a lot of fuss about something a teenie, weenie bit different. Any intentional big weather changes during any session would've been notified more in advance than my earlier message, which gave a pretty obvious hint that the race would be wet. To reiterate and expand on my comment above, the race will be wet and it will stay wet from start to finish. It will not get dryer, it will not get heavier, it will stay the same. If you have been on the server you will have experienced the race conditions, ambient/track temperatures etc. to be expected. One change only for the 2nd race of the series. I posted a message about it on the 26th June. How much is defined within the vehicle .mas file which is encrypted, so I've no idea. Yes a weight penalty is applied for this vehicle, as per default rF2 program code and can be seen in the garage menu
I have been on the server quite a few times this week and found the conditions different every time, as a fairly newbie to this, how would one arrive at a stable “wet” setup when the server presents different conditions depending on the session you log into?
To be fair Ken, your message wasn’t exactly a statement, you actually on stated it would definitely be a wet race a couple of days ago. It would have been beneficial also to have notified folks that the conditions wouldn’t change etc. within that message.
I've just rechecked the server and for some unknown reason all the sessions settings were not as I believed they had been configured back on 26th June, so my humble apologies for that. That has now been rectified and the server restarted with the race pwd.
Fair comment, sometimes I like to leave some things to the imagination and maybe wrongly assume my message is clear enough.
Well done podiums, couldn’t make my tyres last a full race (my setup was based on bad server conditions earlier in the week!) haven’t a clue why I got a drive through penalty! If I hadn’t had that I may have been challenging for 4th! @Ken Jagger, can you advise what caused it?
This is what the results file shows: <Penalty et="2194.4">Chris Belfield received Drive Thru penalty, 0s, 0laps for "Cut Track". Result: penalties=1, 1st=Drive Thru,0s</Penalty>
Very challenging race. I enjoyed ever minute. Gave it everything I had to catch Viktor but he drove without errors and I wore out my tires trying to keep up. Ken had a great start and gained a position on me and never gave it up. Good job Ken. As for the weather, well you never know at Spa. I think it's good to sometimes not know exactly what the weather will be. If you know it will be dry at the end, you practice for that exact scenario. And when that doesn't happen, then you have to adjust. Those who can adjust to unexpected conditions will finish better. Thanks Ken for your hard work and for a great series. Looking forward to the next one.
All in all, to finish 5th only 16.5 seconds from the front after a pit stop & a drive through I’m pleased with the end result, but happier to have got my first pole position......in my first wet race
For me, my qualy position was a little surprising. I didn't expect that. And I forgot to check my fuel consumption. I was almost to miss the start doing calculation after I complete 2 laps in warmup session. I stepped out on the grid with only 2 seconds before green flag The race was pretty intense, balancing between "pedal to metal" and tyres management (to be read: between Chris and Ken). With @Chris Belfield being further and further with every lap, my only concern was @Ken Jagger . In the first half I manage to put around 3-4 second between us, but never I felt comfortable with this because ... I know Ken . And his pace in the second half confirmed my fears. His car was growing bigger and bigger in my mirrors. My luck was the 60 minute passed before he really catch me. But, man, was close. When Chris entered to pit, I was on the edge all the next lap to enter or not. But my car was pretty stable and I decided to try. It was a good choice. What can I say. I like rain. I like being forced to stay focused for every inch of the track. Rarely I accomplish this, but I like challenges .
