Looks like these cars separete quali-boys from racing-mens, least what comes to tyres... I'm sure there more options than quitting series, like get fresh tyres from pit. :)

I know M$ did a massive update around this event's racing time, I was not in this race but it sure screwed up my internet else where. There were 3 updates, 2 to fix their screw up of the first update..

If the server was set to a lower ambient temp wouldn't that help the tyres to run cooler ????

Thanks for helping clear this up a bit more, Tim. This is what I thought and the situation we were in led me to believe that he was going to leave me that room. And it was a noticeable speed difference through out the banking and we had two different lines while approaching. It's one thing closing the door while in front of me so that I have to lift off the gas or even slam on the brakes. But instead, it was turning into me while already side by side. It was too late for that and I didn't expect that. I don't have a massive horsepower advantage over Div. 2 like M1, Porsche and Ferrari do, followed by Capri. This all happened too quickly, and was all probably a misunderstanding and just having different views in the heat of racing moments. And of all people it's @Dennis Matzies :D I feel really sorry for Dennis having a spectacular multiple roll and a DNF. And while leading with a big gap. All I could do after that was pit, repair and get out and try to finish the race, like I always do. All this would be much easier if there was no server lag for some of us at the start, and I didn't fall behind practically to the back of the whole field.

My question is should Division 1 and Division 2 cars RACE like this? I mean, we all race, but is it a free-for-all mix or each division for themselves, like it is with points awarded. This is not the first case so far of having a Div.2 car racing Div.1 car hard for a pass. I assumed there was no reason for racing between different classes because of how points are awarded separately. But I guess it's a personal preference. In reality I think DRM cars were racing separately Division 1 from Division 2, meaning in two separate events. But occasionally, for example at Nordschleife, there would be a mixed event, like this what we have, a multi-class race.

This happened using chat window while in the garage, not the in-car app. For example, I couldn't type in the name of the car setup that I wanted to save. It's something with the latest 1.60 CSP. Of course, when your in-car chat app is active and you see the cursor is on it, the keyboard will work only there. You had to click outside of it. That's how it was before. Anyway, I don't have the chat in-car open. The issue I had now, I was able to resolve earlier in-car by mouse overing the app sidebar to pull it out, and then push it back. But it didn't work this time.

In my opinion it is silly for a Div2 to fight with a Div1 car. The only thing you end up doing is holding up the Div1 car and losing time yourself. Stick to your own race, you are not racing this car technically. Kind of the same as not being on the same strategy also doesn't make sense to defend sometimes. So, in my opinion you only lose time defending from a Div1 car and have a greater chance of coming together as well. Blocking a Div1 on the Nordschleife especially would be stupid imo.

Caitlin had technical issue's and couldn't continue the stream. That is why we don't have a broadcast for this round.

Another fix for the tyre issue which is making people consider leaving the series is to introduce a mandatory pit stop.

This track didn't have those bumps on the racing surface, pretty flat. Other than that one, the cars feel pretty good. It's well done and a real special car pack, at least to me.

Nope, I don't use VR at all, I'm on a single screen so far. Not much room for a big serious rig here also. Couldn't get used to that kind of FOV in VR and a lower resolution, at least as it was when I tried it. I'll have a look at it again with the next generation I guess.

Exactly! rather than dying on my ass the last 10minutes with red wear tyres i stopped for new boots, had best pace and most fun of my race with light fuel and new tyres and caught up and passed two cars on worn out tyres while enjoying a great chase with a Div1 935. :)
No mandatory stop required but we all the have the option of pitting for tyres :)
Ps also, I would recommend upping your ‘lateral ffb’ in AC settings as per the DRM recommendation. (To 4 or 5) You can feel the tyres rippling on the track surface as they move laterally.

That is an i9/9900 not 3600 :) bit of a beast I upgraded a few weeks ago, but still using my old 1080 gfx card :p - waiting for the 3000’s to be released.

    Thank you for that.
I mean, of course I don't pretend that it's necesserily a car physics problem, maybe it's only me sucking as hell with this car, but at least I can attest that I kept the tires in the green temps range for 95% of the race, to the point that right side ones were in the blue. Only sometimes left tires were overheating in the 2 right curves. I had specific pressures wheel per wheel, and during the race I moved my braking bias forward (it was quite forward since the start), also I lowered the boost. This track wasn't rear tires very demanding imo, still left rear was red-dead since mn25.. My last laps were in the 1'50.
With slick boots it's much more pronounced : I can cook an egg on them in only 1 curve.

Monitoring those tire temps made me think the other day that perhaps the temperature dynamics were a bit too much pronounced as they seem too cool down fast also.

I think what you describe here is what happens on all cars really. I can speak for the Porsche only. Putting the power down hard causes overheating, in particular corners. On this last race especially on the banking. I was at about 90-95% throttle through the banking not to cause the tires to overheat. The front left would overheat in that fast right hander going up. A smoother line through there with reduced power kept the tire barely in the green for me. Another line or more throttle would push the tire more causing it to overheat there.

So I guess that if you did not be more gentle on the throttle or tried to drive less aggressive lines then it is normal you were cooking and degrading the tires faster.

Something I think is not felt really well in AC is when the tires slip. The steering gets lighter but I don't know, the feeling could be better I think.

Maybe I didn't express myself correctly but I really took care of them all the race long, still my rear left was the 1st one to die and it happened before the middle of the race. ;)
(Have a look at my pace : I'm slower than a snail so that even if I'm not a good driver I think it's barely possible to be that slow lol :D)

There is definitely a difference between the cars. While I do set up around a long run on longer races - when I did the hour of testing at Brands an important difference is that I was pushing the setup I had in the M1 hard all the way and still (just!) had tire life at the end. My laps times actually managed to stay flat through the entire race when you take out the traffic factor.

When I took the Capri out with the modded setup it outperformed the tire life that Manteos and Louis had in their race - but I still felt the tires were worse at the very end than my Beemer had been, and worse is that I'd been driving it carefully and 'straight'.
This might be a side effect of how AC calculates tire wear factoring in with Live axles, we know the physics engine uses a single point to calculate contact on kerbs etc. Maybe tire life is a single value too and taking the shoulder off a tire (real life) is seen as taking the entire tire off in AC? I guess if so the only option Dennis and Co. would have is to simply make the tread depth deeper on the Capri & Escort without changing anything else.

Snap, only I still have the 1070GTX. With a full grid of different cars I'm maxing it out, otherwise it runs everything perfectly still.
Plan on getting a 3000 series anyway given what I've read!

Alright then, @Mark Johnson . I'll make an instructional video for you, I think this is a great coaching moment and after some review, you may be able to see what I'm talking about.

Basically, I think this issue comes down to you fundamentally over-driving the entries of corners (too much speed, incorrect line) and fading the car out into other drivers. You almost did it to me twice at turn one on the first lap, despite having 5-10 car widths clear on your inside and all the banking in the world to help keep the car towards the inside. Then you and Toni also got into it just a few corners later, you're not totally blameless here. You're also 3-4 seconds a lap off the Div-1 car pace in a Div-1 car, so faster Div-2 drivers will likely be trying to send the car around your outside a lot. This is a situation you will continue to face for the rest of the series, so I really think you should look inward and try to improve your ability to manage gaps and spaces between cars in traffic while cornering, rather than playing the blame-game.

Just to reiterate, the typical racing line is *not* the line you use when racing other drivers, because if you take a normal racing line while side-by-side with somebody, it typically results in contact. Learning to make modifications to your lines, speed, rhythm when racing other cars is what you're going to have to do to avoid further incidents like this. There were options. You chose to not use those extra options either from ignorance or incompetence and it resulted in contact. Hopefully, you learn from this after I've provided some coaching, but the choice is up to you.

Ted, let me just add something to your advice here. This was lap 1 of course. The DRM mod has a lot of different cars, but also uses something like "fresh sticker tire" grip when you start a session with new tires or get into pits for them. The grip in front tires particularly is very low at start until some of that "sticker" surface is scraped off while going through corners. It will take something like 2 whole laps to bring all 4 tires to full grip. Which means a lot of understeer he obviously had, not because of bad line, but because of lap 1 cold sticker tires with low grip. It's somewhat easier for rear tires to scrape them off more, because of the wheelspin that occurs at race start when you floor the throttle. The mod also uses brake temperatures which means you need to brake hard and waaaay early just to warm them up a bit into turn 1. I believe Mark didn't account for all this. Either that, or he actually did and he knew all this, but didn't have time to test and maybe misjudged of how much understeer he will have in both Turn 1 and into The Snakes.

For both these tire grip and brakes temperatures, I recommend trying out Sidekick app, which has pretty simple and informative values shown which default AC apps don't.

I figured "It's lap 1 and the tires/brakes are cold" is so obvious I didn't have to tell him that.

It's also not an acceptable excuse for missing a corner and hitting other drivers when every other driver in the field must deal with it, so it's totally irrelevant. This adds nothing to the instruction I've already given him. Leave the coaching to the professional coach, Flip.

Now, now, let's add a little diplomacy. The forum is for everybody there to express their opinion.
It's a very good instruction Ted. Thanks for the effort. But you must also accept the right to viewpoints if you put it out there.

No, of course, Ted. Come on, of course that I'll leave real life racing to you, I see that you are a pro racing coach.

I was addressing more of the game itself, the sim, Assetto Corsa's features and I think it is some worthy info. It's not just lap 1 or not. Because there are mods for AC that don't have brake temperatures factor built in, as well as such low tire grip early in the run. Like GT3 cars or even some vintage cars by Kunos, doesn't matter. And those happen to be far more forgiving than the DRM mod in that area.

I pointed out only this in particular, because I wasn't sure if Mark or anyone else was used to this, aware of all that, or not. That's all.
