You are doing 8:33... in a Div2 car and you want setup? o_O

That default setup is pretty unstable. There is still some seconds what I can take off if I have better setup :p and i drove that time with low fuel load

any chance of a server up? :)

Server is up. I guess you have to download the OSRW version to join it. Link provided by JVD at the end of page 2 ;)

It's been up for the last week - still is.
You can't have installed the track

ah that explains why i couldnt see it tonight, thanks gents :)
need some help with my gearing here, with only a 4-spd and two final settings available in the baby 935 makes it difficult to determine ideal ratios to suit such a long straight whilst also having so many 2nd/3rd gear corners.

By the way have you tried this track through the custom shaders of content manager? it looks amazing in autumn shades and sunlight with fireworks going off and party tents lit in the evening like a proper N24 event. They appear to have added lots of extra detail to the track environment that i hadnt seen before.

If you're running high downforce then leave 4th well under 190mph as I doubt the K2 can get close (I may have a go later today as I love that little porker).
For a low downforce setup you can expect a few extra MPH up the hill and along the main straight.
In the M1 I have 2 variants of low down force, one tops out at 197, the other just hits 200 on full fuel (I have 4th geared to 214 at the mo, need to see if the slightly shorter set has enough legs still).
The high downforce setup gets to roughly 190-193. I've actually knock 3rd and 4th down a spot on it as a result - my fastest gearing on that is actually slightly short and I finish the main straight on the limiter @193. With the next set up I'd only reach 194-5 and it costs me more time when climbing the hill...

I'm definitely taking a Grp2 320 around here when I get time, it'll be an absolute blast as opposed to the 8 minutes of terror in the M1...

I don't think you'd want my engine in a Beta!
It's terrifying enough in the M1 - and I still haven't tried full boost yet....

Think I have maybe 1 lap @ 100% here before I turn it into a 7 cylinder or just shorten the car :D

There you go, It's such a pleasure to drive compared to the M1. You can actually use the curbs in the Porsche - every time I so much as get close to them in the M1 it's a major save moment!

Sorry about the weird fish-eye view, I'm running the Open VR renderer and it seems to display strangely on the main monitor. I'll have to have a play with the settings as the video quality is a bit rubbish if I'm being honest. But as I was recording live (some apps don't work in replays as we know) I didn't have much choice..

Anyway; lines, gear points, and braking points are nearly all correct - you should spot the ones I slightly messed up (I'm not driving until it's perfect when in someone else's car!).
I've opted for the longest 1st gear, as aside from some horrible turns in the GP complex you never need to drop below 50Mph. It may be faster if you drop it, but that will introduce a load of additional gear changes elsewhere on the track - great for a flying lap, not so good for an endurance event...

One thing to note - you'll see my stabbing the throttle pedal on the app when getting on the gas, I'm not convinced AC simulates turbos very well (Although the DRM cars feel very realistic and laggy), but I'm driving as I would in my own track car. Full throttle at low revs is to spool the turbo as fast as possible and in some instances to try and de-stabilise the car a bit to improve turn - while you aren't on boost you are VERY unlikely to run out of grip if you're smooth, but as soon as it comes on you have to then back off and balance the throttle at whatever percentage the tires can cope with. You should just about be able to see this in the Pedals app on the vid (I made it a bit small sorry, again - this was bigger on the old Oculus renderer).

    Enjoy:

Thanks Tim for this lap, you must have had a good time. :) Great ride.
Unfortunately, I suffer cruelly on this track. The lack of grip on the front axle, to put it mildly, annoys. Understeer. But you can't see it in the movie at all - you were driving another Porche. ;)
I will try to change the gearbox, maybe this is a remedy for my problems

I know from Matteo that you've very fast in other classes of racing so I might be telling you something you already know...

The 2 types of 911 and the M1 both require you to turn them using the brakes and/or throttle. In the video you should just about be able to make out the brake force I apply into and through corners on the pedal app. I brake very hard in straight lines and where I don't want the car rotating much (Down into Aremburg is a great example as heavy braking actually stabilizes the setup I was driving), I then very rapidly release the brakes before getting back on them gently to gain some nose weight to help turn the car (Basic rally driving or old nose-heavy sports car technique - you want to return some free travel to the front suspension while also freeing up some lateral grip by braking more gently).
Because you will probably be using 100% lock under acceleration you'll also need to rapidly get onto the throttle to then keep the car turning, there are very few places on the Ring where you can simply coast through a corner without either crashing or just going very slowly and messing your lines up :)

Simply put - apart from the very fast sections, you need to be either on the brakes or the throttle the entire way around. Doing this generates silly amounts of heat in the tires (Again the Porsche is nice in this regard, M1 can cook eggs on the rears for half the lap!) so you need to be quite careful - especially after the long run up the hill towards Karrusell, even the Porsches will have red hot rear tires and hefty over-pressure by the braking zone into Steilstrecke so it's easy to loose the rear end under braking.

I think the Porsche should be good for at least an 8:20 with more setup work and a cleaner lap

That video just makes me wonder why we aren't using the 1967 version even more.

I thought the same thing lol just look at that little pine tree on the right side of track at Exit Hocheichen, from 0:10 to 0:20 timeline, it has seen a lot of racing! :D

And now one for Mark as a target to aim for.
In fairness I should note this video is on 100% boost and Medium slicks - hence the number of times it runs wide or performs massively over-the-top drifts once out on the Nords (The lockup when entering the Nords was entirely on me  ) and manages the crazy time of 8:20.
I think it was an 8:24.8 on Endurance tires, 90% boost and heavy fuel.

The modern version is point scanned, and is as good as being there as possible without actually being there (for example on the real track there's a slight bump in the mid-left of the track after Hohe Acht - between Hedwigshohe and Wippermann. I use it to make the back step out slightly as the left-hander tightens and you want to get your left wheels up on the kurb in order to carry more speed into the turn. This is also in the AC version and when I'm driving the old 180SX from the official AC forums it behaves exactly the same thing my own car does, even down to the feel through the wheel).

Or we could drive a glorified re-master of the GPL circuit...
(I'm being massively unfair to the authors here as they've done a stunning job - but compared to the Kunos version it may as well be a direct rip from GPL in mesh quality - I mean on the AC version you can even feel the bumps at Adenau (Breidscheid bridge entry) where the new (2012ish I think) tarmac has settled over the concrete of the road bridge and left a pair of small speed bumps in the track profile as a result).
I like the 67 version but to drive on it's just not as good.

Yeah I mean, that's fair. It is lower quality, for sure, I just find the immersive/vintage aspect of it enjoyable. I Sim race for an escape from real life racing, not to have it be 110% accurate so it's just my personal preference. I still think the vintage cars on the vintage version could be super fun, though. :)

The modern one will also be fun since it indeed has hardly changed.
