yeah I was hoping that maybe we’d all just run around behind the safety car until the race went green but everyone started overtaking one another. Wouldn’t work. We’d all be disqualified.

no worries, looking forward to the rescheduled event but my two cents worth is next Sunday please. Company stock take on Saturday. Lol

I saw this too and no this is not an example of standards, and I hope that the person responsible is strongly warned. Race rescheduled/cancelled or not if he'd of hit me or I hit him I could of broke/sprained either of my thumbs.
I have had one thumb sprained by acts like this so I HOPE TO NEVER SEE OR HEAR THAT IT'S HAPPENED AGAIN IN S.R.O OR I AM DEFINATELY LEAVING THIS GROUP!
I come to these events to have fun and race close with other like-minded people, not be physically injured.

I must say though that some of the driving standards were iffy, I was pushed off the road by a Bentley that swept wide on a corner even though we were side by side. Clean it up guys.

The server was playing up big style as during Qualy and race causing input lag, I had come across some of these issues with PC2 so managed to close the display down and its driver and run off the in game dash.

Hopefully it is rescheduled and the server is fixed, as I was looking forward to this after screwing up the car paint. See you at the restart!

Oh, Eye candy after the race had been cancelled:

Me and my team mate were play racing here showing that you can race wheel to wheel without sweeping out into the car next to you

Now this will hopefully not happen again, but would great if an admin types in chat to stay on formation lap or return to pit, it's not easy in end of mid pack to decide if the race is on or not, drivers was both starting and stopping the race and since there was no mind readers attending it was confusing, IMO these laps have nothing to do with the overall standard of the drivers here at SRO. All drivers are not aware how the fcy works, since it's only used in ovals. But this is not anything that happens at random, so if it got a bit wonky this time so be it.

Regarding lag on the server it was a bit better, still a few cars sliding/warping and popping up shortly as before, maybe something like 30%-ish improvement.

As long we keep the day and time, any Sunday will work as rescheduled for me.

Passing under Yellow Flag conditions is Never allowed, unless instructed by the simulator. In this instance, all drivers should have maintained their position until the green flag. Drivers should have maintained their positions as if there was an accident at the front of the field. Although there was not an accident in the field, there was a configuration problem on the server. It was not a race ending configuration issue. The problem would have cleared on it's own. We need to learn from this and apply what we have learned to any future server problem, which will be sure to happen because we Admins are human and we cannot guarantee that server problems will never happen again :)

Bah, useless skill these days with ipads that talk to you o_O.

Actually, all this would be solved if we all were in some form of group/session comms. I know there's a Teamspeak server for SRO and also a Dischord, maybe we should use them.

Might be a few language barriers, but still one of the admins could have an overreaching transmit, like "whisper mode" in TS where everyone would hear the "race restart" call or any other notifications like when that weird Safety car thing happened, one of the co-ords could of called over the channel to say "carry on as the screen says, race will start on lap 3". They have similar setups for the big endurance races with live stewards, many team channels but 1 stewards channel with whisper rights to each team channel.

That solves the reading messages issue, I have the message board disabled in cockpit so I can't see or get distracted by them.

I doubt whether this race would have ever gone green. The main problem with the FCY start procedure in rF2 is the grid has to be lined up perfectly or it won't go green. Always difficult to achieve with a large grid. The race should have been immediately stopped by the admin and as John tried to do fix the server. It was a confusing situation although there was info on the screen saying what people had to do. These things happen and actually wasn't the major problem of the evening.

Once again we have a server that cannot deal with 20+ cars. This problem has been around now for far too long. I donate to this site and I know this doesn't give me any major rights above people who don't I do expect a certain standard and that any problems that cause major problems to be fixed and not just left hoping they go away or don't occur that often. Sadly this hasn't occurred in almost a year now. Why? I am very disappointed. Please can you give me some assurance that these server problems are going to be fixed very soon. These problems are not rF2 related as I have raced on other servers with 30 odd cars and had no problems. Time I think to go elsewhere for our gaming servers. SRO needs to maximise the current increased interest in sim racing and unfortunately this is not a great advert for this site (see above comments). Time to act now and quickly or we can say goodbye to the new drivers we have seen racing here recently. Sorry if this comes over as a bit of a angry rant but ignoring this problem is now not an option.

First of all I have to say I'm very sorry for the mishap yesterday.

We are working on getting the lag out of the servers and to that end a more technically skilled admin has taken over the server setup.
He has explained to me that with all the rFactor 2 updates of late, there was a double code error on the server (something technical) which caused the problem as the server was set for a normal standing start. The visual settings were correct. That's why I couldn't find the problem yesterday.

I'm in conversation with Ken Jagger to re-schedule this event for next Sunday January 31. Same time, same place.
It's looking good on the calendar, so stay tuned for a definite confirmation.

BOO, I won't be able to make the restart if that's the case as I'm commentating an endurance race :'( That's both rounds I will have missed because of casting. Definitely need to give it up XD (please can I beg for a Saturday race)

It wasn't rocket science to just keep pace speed and follow the instructions that WERE IN BIG LETTERS IN FRONT OF EVERY DRIVER! Problem was.... a lot of people started spamming the chat with "RESTART".... "WTF"..... "FFS". Even though in the race rules it is said "NO CHAT" and "NO RESTARTS". If admin wanted to send a message out then it would have been drowned out by this drivel! It is our jobs as drivers to keep our hands on our wheels and wait for instruction, not bark at the admin for not doing things!!

I just did a packet trace. SRO is at the that time 145ms but if you look before my packet arrived to SRO race server there was 21 other delays through router switches adding up (ms), my packets reached SRO was almost 2 second delay (1991ms) for that moment. 9 switched in Canada, 8 switches in the United States and 3 in France before finally reaching my car on the track. Surly this is not a good connection to race. Just because when you pinged the race server and it tell you 145ms at the race server, then people ask why is the race server so slow. I just showed you why.

Don't you use a mobile phone for your connection Doug?

Tell me how to do the packet trace and I'll see what results I get.
