Round 3 Spa Francorshamps S397 - Sun Feb 7, 2021

GT3 cars don't have aero package selection. I assume, since there is talk about it here, that it's DPIs that have it.

Haven't been on the PC all week and just desperately trying to download the content and updates, won't have any practise but at least it's a track I know well.

Hoping to make Qualifying.

 

Well that was an absolute mess!
Qualifying went ok and was around where I thought I would be on pace. But then the race...
At the start of the formation lap my pedals, which had been responding properly all day, seemed to not give me any acceleration so was slow to pull away and build up speed.
Then got dropped from the server and managed to start from the pit lane, but my setup hadn't loaded. After four drive through penalties in 8 laps with a car that wasn't slowing down or handling properly I'd had enough and didn't want to ruin anyone else's race with a car that wasn't handling right.
I'm so annoyed and fed up having spent so much time getting the car handling the best it has.

Fausto Ricci if you have blue, please do not zigzag on the track, please. It's very dangerous.

 

Well that went better than planned I guess!

Zero practise for this one (work has just swamped me this week), loaded up the Road America setup, adjusted the brake balance during qualifying and that was it.

Unfortunately because I hadn't run on this track yet I was overdriving too much today.

6 (or 7) drive throughs.
3 (or 4) stop and goes.

So if I hadn't screwed up so much I probably would've been 4th maybe.

On a few laps I was looking on for a 2m 02s so not bad but caught traffic each time. So not a million miles away from the top guys.

Anyway, a finish is a finish, no contact, no damage, so can't be too unhappy.

Great driving by everybody and well done to the podium finishers.

 

oh wow that was way better from the DPi guys only one during Qualy that cost me my second run but thankfully I had secured a spot. But the race was great stuff. way more comfortable to drive with you this time.

I just keep getting screwed over by the tyres now. The pressures just keep climbing beyond 200Kpa regardless of what they're set to. I mean I wasn't throwing it into corners for the first 10 laps and I was able to stay with the Ferrari pack at the front, until they got so hot they just started to slide causing me to drop places so fast.

Had no issues, my only problem was I couldn't convince the game to load my livery file, I think everyone else saw it but my car was a mismatch of black and blue on my screen, almost like it was from another car but screwed up. My fault though, it has done it before and I just kept jumping into the server until it worked.

I am curious about a few things..... coming out the turn, GT car is on the racing line.....where do you think the GT car is going? Left or right?

Overtaking on the smallest area of the track when you have the whole left side of the track to get by is INSANITY! With the speed differential, you would be passed by Eau Rouge EASILY

You think that was dangerous!? He was on the racing line! It's the responsibility of the car behind to make a safe and clean pass.

 

What. A. Race. My goodness. So for whatever reason, once my engine is stopped (or perceived stopped, like at a race start) I can't start it again. Works in single player. Repeated the test after the race. Alt+F4'd RF2 and relaunched it, woot! back to the pits. Jumped out on track, just neatly between the 2 fields. A lap down before the green flag! Time to get a move on.
Can't wait to get back on track again with the DPi, and I hope beyond hopes that the LMDh comes to RF2 because hybrid boost can only make these cars more fun!

It's one of the things that gets mentioned often but no real feedback from S397 as to whether they are working on a hybrid model. Fingers crossed.

 

Server was really good. But I have to say, last race in this series was good as well. First race I believe was a different server which was stutter and pucker city.

 

I think Spa lends itself to endurance racing anyway, long straights, very wide.

Kyalami should be ok too, Portland is narrow, so I can see that one being a problem, hopefully not.

 

Remember the real advantage the dpi cars have is aero, and that kyalami is all mid speed corners and oh boy, it's going to be hell for lapping!
I'm just hoping the weather in South Africa is a bit cooler than Belgium! That was some crazy heat today.
