    History of Circuit Zandvoort Racing
    Early Days
    [IMG]
Motor Racing In Zandvoort circa 1939
It was way back in the 1930s that car racing first began on a designated track in Zandvoort and for the first time in Dutch history in the summer of 1939 an international competition was organised for racing cars. At that time the race would of been through the streets of Zandvoort and would probably have been enjoyed by a few thousand fans. After this, the Zandvoort authorities made the decision that there would be a permanent circuit and the location chosen was to the North of the village in the dunes.

Naturally due to the outbreak of World War II and the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans, things didn’t proceed as quickly as would have been expected. However, the community purchased 112 hectares of duneland and a track of about 4 kilometres in length was able to be realized. This earthen track was laid in 1941, and in 1946 the surface was hardened with the addition of a thick layer of war rubble. Finally, in 1948, it was asphalted, and on 7 August 1948 the opening event took place, organized by the British Racing Drivers Club and a lot of Formula 1 drivers came to Zandvoort even though at that time the race did not count for the championships. The winner of this first race was Prince Bira of Siam. In the next year the race was given a new name: ‘‘de Grote Prijs van Nederland’’ and it was won by Ferrari’s driver Luigi Villoresi.

    ok Q
    ok R
i had issues stopping the car. Dont know if brakes are cold or hot or whats going on. I have a feeling its my brake balance and should work on getting more balance to front. I just used to having it trail as possible. Ive sometimes tried front and if nail a corner gain tenth or 2, but it takes too much work to change habits.
2 times i had to steer to sand in T1 not to hit car in front. And once i made by just and by accident but hit @Mark Ekins in process. Well doorsläp but felt it was really rude. Hit him 2nd time in slow corner in which i was faster for sure and maybe he had some wheeling going on, dont know but gave it back. Then he made error and wanted to let me go by wasnt taking none of that since i was rude to him on regular basis :D
Start i watched my mirrors and how people just went left and right, that went well...
Oh and got pass on @Jos Ogos but went wide on next. Didnt try to block, i just sucked.

ACC is a mystery have no clue how setups go and passing is super scary. good fun tho.

Quite a fun race last night with plenty of action but ultimately a little frustrating in result.
I took the Merc for the first time expecting it to be a refined version of the Aston as (a) they share same engine and (b) its been around a long enough time to be fully developed. It looked good and felt good in some corners but also had terrible understeer in the tighter slower corners where the front would just wash out and lose time.
Still, think i qualified about 7th or 8th. Got a good start and tucked in behind Toni thinking he would carve his way forward, whilst Jos was alongside me. But Toni was very tentative on cold tyres and this allowed Jos a completely free pass around the outside of both of us to get in front. This proved near fatal to the results as he became the proverbial cork in the bottle for the rest of us! :p
Toni fell off at T1 after a few laps whilst Jos attacked Vasilis ahead in the BMW. After a few more laps i was attacking Jos and oddly the sector where i thought his Mclaren would be strongest is where he appeared weakest (the twisty middle sector - mastersbocht to turns 10 and 11) and i was getting seriously out of shape trying to avoid hitting his rear end and worst, this allowed the two strong Astons behind me to close right up and start attacking my rear! Finally i got a big tail fish out of T11 and JVD nipped past up the inside into the chicane...drat! Soon Toni was all over me and he just powered past me as well on the exit onto the straight. The Merc had so much understeer i could never take that turn flat once the whole race  So now i had gone from 7th all over Jos, down to 9th. Then a lap or so later i had to take to the sand to avoid contact at T1 and lost yet another place to Mark Ekins Mclaren. :( Now i was 4th in the queue behind Jos ! He did very well to resist all the pressure and stay ahead of the two Astons as they were predictably fast yet again.
This 4 or 5 car train continued for ages and looked spectacular in some corners, think i grinned a few times! but eventually Mark and Toni came together in the first hairpin and i was able to gain two places back to 8th. I was very fortunate that they both dropped back a few secs from me as late in the race i was carrying a slow right rear puncture and then got very bad cramp in my right foot  i had to literally work the throttle for the last two laps with the side of my foot
Finished 7th or 8th, cant remember.
Wish i had taken the Maserati as intended....oh well, will save it for Imola, its motherland :D

    :D
I have to say that I was really suffering for your all in your frustrations in addition to suffering myself from your relentless attacks... It's not the simracing I take more pleasure from but it has to be done (the utter defensive stance) in a situation like yesterday's... And you can't negate I created a massively intense racing night behind between you lot. :D

That was my second very good race in a row.. :)

Zandvoort is another circuit that i never raced before, so i was need plenty of practice to get used to it and find a good balance for my BMW.. And i think i did it :)
At practice i manage to have a race pace at mid 46's and so i was quite happy with it. I believed that i would be 1 sec faster with low fuel but i didnt.. Even that i managed
to do 1:45.9 at quali so my 6th place overall was a great result for me, while the front runners (Tim and Simone) was running at low 1:44.

My race start this time was great indeed, i managed to pass Toni right after the start at straight line and after the T1 i had Jos right behind my tail. For two laps i was in
defending position trying to be fair and closing the doors respectfully at every try he did. After my tires warmed up, i was opening the gap from Jos, but i couldnt catch the front
runners as they pulling away about 1 sec per lap. After 6-7 laps and until the and i had a lonely race and finished at 5th position.. :)

I am very happy with the result even if i did some minor mistakes (mostly at breaking) so i was not 100% consistent at my lap times ( i mostly was running at middle 46's but
sometimes i was 1 sec slower), but generally it seems that i am making a good progress. :)

Well done to Tim for the win and to podium finishers and of course to all guys for a fun and clean race. I am looking forward for the next one at Imola..

Congratulations to everyone for the excellent race, and many congratulations to Tim, this time he was from another planet for me.

Zandvoort has never been a circuit that I particularly love, after several offline tests, I had found a pace on the low 1.46, and a few laps below this time.

But during the race thanks also to Tim, I did my personal best ever 1.44.7, and I often lapped under 1.46, I am satisfied about my race, I kept my best possible pace, not enough to beat Tim, but you can't always win.

Very difficult race for me yesterday with the McLaren 570S.
I made the most at the start with two overtakes in T1 (although this wasn't as free as Mark suggests!). This was followed by 6 minutes of an intense attack on @Vasilis Doumanas that defended well and didn't give me any options to overtake. And, after that, everything changed... Vasilis took a 1 sec advantage at the same time that @Mark Johnson caught on me and I had to shift to a draconian defensive mode. One after another, from Mark, to @John vd Geest and @Toni Talvitie, I contained their relentless attacks. It's not easy overtaking with these GT4s... That helped a lot.
Eventually, I kept my 2 gains ending on P6 after an intense race.
Congrats to @Tim Muttram and the podium, and the train of drivers I had behind for their patience.

Please check the start time for the final round! it has been adjusted to keep it in the local time slot = Q @ 19:00 GMT from the previous 20:00 GMT to fit the BST & PST time change! If you live in a region that does not use daylight savings time the race will be 1 hr earlier.
