Simply my race was an agony, no fun at all but sincerely this car (assetto corsa..) needs always a millimetric precision that I don't have and in this narrow track I paid the bill, sorry for contact with Tim and Matteo when I was 2nd but it seemed that the brakes work in random mode And to finish happy I ran out of gas just before the final straight
Surprised to get pole but I think this was due to Tim and Matteo not getting the laps in but hey pole is pole. When I went to the grid I was placed 4th which was weird but when I pressed the drive button I was in pole. Phew! (due I think to changing camera to Matteo's car while we waited for qualy to finish. Still threw me for a while there). For a change I got a good start. My AC starts have been really bad not sure why. I had to push like crazy to keep the better faster drivers behind me but I knew it was just a matter of time. I survived more than half and hour in the lead which I was quite pleased of but with Matteo and Tim doing low 4:30's even a few 4:29's I was 4 to 5 seconds slower a lap. I began to hear that music from Jaws just before the shark attacks as Matteo and Tim got closer and closer. Der Dum Dur Dum. Dum Dum Dum Dum . I thought for a moment they were just going to blast past me but I held them up for just over a lap before Matteo blasted past me and at the same time Tim went straight the middle of us and took a brief lead. Towards the end I noticed Tim slowing and I had to take evasive action as I didn't realise he had slowed by that much. I guessed he was running low on fuel and I eventually got by him (at some point I forget where. Think he made a mistake). Well done to Matteo for the win, Tim for 3rd, and to all those that took part and finished Fun race shame about the attendance. Where has everyone gone from our initial group of historic racers. SRO it seems should stick to GT3 racing. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!. On to Horsma next. I enjoyed this track so much the last time I raced here. It's still one of the best fantasy tracks in AC imo. See you all there.
That was a nice race, despite the low turnout. I missed the quali again, as I joined the server with 3 mins to go, but at least AC conceded me to do a lap more than I should to heat up a bit. As I knew I should start in last position because time was over when I crossed the line of my recorded laptime, I just decided to let Tim pass at the start to avoid any unfair advantage. Tim was clearly less prepared than me and Alessandro and needed 4 or 5 laps to have the better on him, especially after a huge crash that involved all of us, letting Paul to build a gap that me and Tim managed to close after the end of lap 7 or 8. At that point we were 3 fighitng for the lead, and Paul defending tooth and nail his lead. After a small collision between me and Paul ,Tim slipped in the middle of us like a spit in a roast, and I managed to follow him closely for some 3 laps or so. We exchanged the lead a couple of times, mainly for our respective mistakes, and Tim did a great job when he passed me in the fiirst sector, in which he seemed to be sensibly faster than me. Than he committed another mistake and I took back the lead, and with a couple of laps to go Tim was again behind Paul, so I could breathe a bit... Last lap was simply scary. I was in discord with Alessandro and he told me that his fuel reserve light was already orange at the start of the last lap. I probably saved a bit more fuel than him, cause my reserve indicator lighted up only at the end of the downhill at the bell tower. I wasn't sure at all to finish the race at that point, and I had to start fuel saving again like at Nordschleife. To be honest, that's the worse issue of this championship. Is not really cool to save fuel on a 250 GTO like in modern F1. It adds nothing to the fun. However, fuel saving worked and I managed that 9 seconds gap by Paul until the last straight, in which I decided to go flat out, with the hope to survive. Thanks for racing chaps
I agree with you Matteo, and I must admit it's mainly my bad : when Jos officially won the F50 series, he generously decided to make this 250GTO series whose I was dreaming (he still loves the 250 too of course) and though the hype about it was very high at us, @John vd Geest brought us back to earth when he explained to Jos he should provide him with a calendar in the very coming days so that John could be able to make his own "job" in time. So we had like 3 or 4 days if I recall to pick the tracks. I realised fuel was about to be a problem, and I tried to set a new consumption ratio based on the Nords that Jos wanted as he loves it. I knew it had to be 75% or 80%, we tried to fine tune our maths in emergency, but testing was taking time. In the end I thought 80% would be enough as fuel consumption reduction, but I was soon proven wrong. I should have flipped the coin on the safer side. Sorry all for that. I have the pleasure by the way to tell you guys that Jos should be able to get back to simracing soon. Sorry for my no show on this event. Low chance I'll show up at Horsma neither because of holidays and/or Magny-Cours week-end for Classic Days.
I you all want, I can set the fuel rate to 75% for the last event. Let me know. Just like or disagree this post.
The fact that some guys have to fuel save is because they are so damned fast. I got 2nd in the last race because I didn't need to fuel save. Just because the fast guys have a problem shouldn't mean we have to start changing things now. As there's only one race to go leave it as is. This means there's a chance for the slower guys.
Actually it was having to fight forward from last position after the qualifying session totally messed up. If I had known it would allow people to just keep clocking laps I wouldn't have pitted and would have started in pole. Instead I had to waste lots of fuel passing and fighting forwards for about half the race (I had 1:02's worth of fuel at race start based on practice and qualifying consumption). On the plus side the raging battle with Matteo up the field was fantastic, even if my championship is basically lost now. On a side note I didn't realise we had a reduced fuel consumption - I'd have rather had it at 100% so we had to choose between pitting or fuel strategy to win. Say what you want about it, but that's been a major part of racing since car racing began (or at least from after the point when cars could get far enough without breaking to need refuelling ). It seems strange that near enough every other series has mandatory pitstops, quite often in cases that are utterly unrealistic and add nothing to the race, but here we could have had natural pit strategy and then tried to remove it. Still, I wouldn't ask for a change in the series at this point. As Paul says, It's my problem if I use too much fuel - I can calculate fuel requirements during practice so it's no surprise when I gets tight near the end.
Indeed Tim, I get your point, but Jos and I decided to go for a no mandatory pit-stop series, because of the way it's modelled in AC. It's quite unfair and messy, especially if the drivers pick a given car skin for the entire series, as the car skins determine the pitbox. Then that means some drivers always will have to slow down tighly before the pitlane entry and will keep limited in speed all the pitlane long once they restart when other drivers can snow-ball the pitlane as long as possible before getting to their pitbox. Plus the pitlane exits often are very dangerous and can lead to some crazy crashes, especially on the classic tracks we were aiming to run these marvellous 250s to..
I don't want to change rules for last event, but after some champ races with Lola my relationship with pit stops has become more "complicated" I love sprint races without mandatory pit, when you can go flat out until the checkered flag. However, I don't see the point in changing rules for the last event without everyone's consent. See you
That's dead easy - as the pit stall is determined by the server manager you just place all the drivers at the far end of the pit lane. Some tracks reverse the pit stalls but it's about 30 seconds work to switch the order
Totally agree with you Paul Just a little thing.. I am sure a slow driver here but always I have problem with gasoline and I consume more fule of Matteo for example.. why this ?? sure a bug Predictions of this race was 1 hour, not a minute more, and in fact .. But more seriously, I've always been against changing rules during champs, and pit stop should be optional, not mandatory, the only reason for the problems with fuel at the and of races is lack of training/simulation of race, but personally I don't want to do them In next race try to change gears to a 8.000 rpm max instead 8.500, sure hepls
It's not a bug Alessandro. It's the same reason why I only get brake fade on (real) track days when I'm following slower drivers. The single biggest reason for people lapping slower is that they slow down more and/or use really inefficient lines through corner complexes. (setup can also affect this but it has a much less important role than the driver). Think about it, if you're on a fast straight approaching a fairly slow corner and you slow to 60kph but Matteo is taking it at 70 then he is wasting less energy (Brakes and fuel) than you and can carry that saving onto the next straight. This means he is not only entering it faster but is using less fuel. A similar example would be if you take a line through a corner complex that means you enter too fast and then miss your final apex's, and get on the throttle much later than him - again you're being less efficient and effectively wasting speed/fuel out of that complex. Over an entire lap this will not only make you slower but can also lead to greater fuel, brake and tire use as you are further from the ideal than he is and constantly working the car harder to make your own speed. Conversely, In my case I generally use more fuel as I use 4 wheel drift to corner faster in old cars, doing this means I can use engine power to hold a tighter but faster line through corners, sadly it means that I eat through tires much faster than Matteo and don't get any real fuel saving even if my lines and driving are spot on (potentially I can be faster when I've bothered to spend time on the setup and am paying attention to my driving though, but over longer distances it tends to go in his favour).
