Quite a lot to process and write about :)

Seems like that some cars were more popular than others for an obvious reason, but everybody got the chance to register for a specific car. Unfortunate that some people did not get their correct car in all that hassle. Maybe a reduction of the carpool and a bigger number of the popular cars makes sense. A different car for every race would also be interesting, but I think there might be some opinions against this :D

Choosing the Mazda did turn out to be a big challenge. I did quite a lot of testing on the server upfront. While testing some other cars, I noticed that the Mazda had troubles with stability, braking, and tyre temperatures. Using an extreme setup, I was able to keep the tyres warm during testing. However, with the removal of the tyre blankets, I had more troubles to get higher temps.

The race itself was actually quite fun. Had a good get away at the start and overtook 2 cars. With a surplus of speed, I snuck between two cars in turn 1. Unfortunately, I was turned and then at the back of the field. Following the incident, I had some good battles and recovered to ~12th place. I have to say, every racing driver was a gentleman today. No dive bombs, and overall respectful racing.
Midway through the race, I lost some places, following my lacking pace and problems under braking. In the end I gained some places back, after incidents besides the track, cars without fuel, and drive-throughs.

Congratulations to the front-runners! The replay suggests that you had an exciting race and a lot of fun.

Not best way to start new season for me. I thougth that race starts one hour later than it did, haven't practice at all with cold tyres and 1st lap I spun maybe 3 times. After that it was serious fun to gain positions from last to 5th or 4th 'till fuel ran out.... :) Thanks to all racers, see you next one. BTW, Ken my car is wrong #2, it should be YELLOW #2... :)

Tried mg.. and didnt go that good. Then wifey yelled dinner so eat some and come back to try toyota. Was good straight off. Tried to pick something less popular.
Spun lap 1. That stupid corner haunts me year after year plus caught by surprise of a heavier car.
Excellent racing after that @Maxime Tendil @John vd Geest @Johnny Gutierrez .
Found pace after halfway but that caused fuel to end. Was fine halfmark but then thought its gonna be enough and stopped looking at it. Think it will last if not rev the engine like did in the end next time.

Ill do same car whole series.

Was some great racing yesterday, full of TC action, really nice, on a knife-edge but still fair of course.
I got really lucky with some off front drivers and Toni's low fuel.
Congrats Csaba for the win !

Very annoyed about the car selection for this series. That is to say should we have pre-selected our car before hand. I thought it was first come first served so didn't pre-select. Went with the BMW and then someone said that they had pre-selected a BMW and none were left. So I felt guilty of not selected and left server to pick another only 5 minutes before Q. Now it seems that some people pre-selected even though Ken said it was a free choice. So I am to say the least a bit peeved. A free choice doesn't work with AC as the server has to be setup before hand with the number of each car. Chose the Toyota only because I drove it in the last series using this mod so I had some setups for it. But the lack of practice showed up early in the race and I spun coming out of the cork screw. Towards the end I saw that I had to refuel so this car can't do 40 minutes so as I was very hot, very sore and peeved off I parked it.

We should stick to the standard way of doing the series and select a car at the start and stick to it. It promotes better racing as we go through the series and drivers get used to their cars imo. Sorry to the organiser I know you guys do your best didn't mean to rant but I had to vent my frustrations.

Well done to the winners and pods.

We'll see if I continue in this series as my games room at this time of year is really way too hot to sit in.

About the car picks, I think that the actual system can only lead to mayhems unfortunately. We just can't merge free picks and selected cars and skins imho. Better to pick a car and stick with it.
By the way, I got my car but not my skin, could it be possible to get the #10 "Repsol" for the rest of the series plz ? Thank you @Ken Jagger by the way for organising this series !

Congratulations to our podium finishers! Csaba, Maxime & Toni, respectively. Also, a hearty 'well done' to Phil for bringing the MGA home in a close P4.
I had quite a fun time dicing with Eddie & Mitchell with all three of us in the MGA. In the late stages, it was looking like they were getting the best of me and slowly drawing away. The cruncher came when it appeared that I didn't gas up adequately and I was in danger of running the tank dry. Pitted for a splash late in the going to go a lap down.
I found the graphics really hard on the eyes with a very dark track surface and a uniformly bright sky. That combination kills my eyes in short order. Realizing this might be the case, I taped a strip of cardboard to the top of my monitor screen to block off about 2-1/2" worth of the sky texture. It helped.

Good fun and looking forward to the next round. TYVM for hosting! :)

Thinking back over the creation of this series my intention of the "free choice" was to be able to use any car, subject to the number of each available, at each race. In hindsight I failed to communicate that clearly enough and accept that I hadn't thought through the implications of how AC doesn't have a more rigid control over the car assignments made in the server config file when there are multiple car models. Apologies to those affected in not getting their assigned car/skin, I was probably assuming too much from the other registered members with regard to reading the Forum posts and seeing who had selected a car already. I also failed to mention that there would be limited numbers of car models available, which was intended to stop it becoming a one or two car only series.

As much as I like the idea of everyone rotating the car they use in each race, it hasn't worked particularly well when I've tried that before, so maybe the solution going forward is to make it mandatory for everyone to choose a specific car/skin for the 2nd and subsequent races. To be fair, priority will be given to those who had already made a selection before the 1st race.

The number of each car now allowed will be:
    Toyota 2000GT - 4
    Mazda RX-3 GT - 3
    Datsun N510 - 3
    Austin Healey 3000 - 3
    MG-MGA - 3
    BMW 2002 - 4
Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA - 4

Sorry, I haven't read the whole story. It was frustrating yesterday. I had no time for sim racing for many months and I was looking forward to the race with you guys and that thing happened... I think in the end it was @Ken Jagger who failed to communicate the whole situation with the cars and did not intervene when people drove cars that they did not choose, as he said in this thread. So @Ken Jagger maybe you can open a new thread for choosing car/skin? I hope you guys had a fun race yesterday and grats to the podium.
By the way... I will stick with the BMW ;)

ken , would it be possible for you to post a list of cars/skins still available ,as I'm not sure whether some of the cars already selected were just for Laguna Seca or for the whole series Thx

I did actually. I asked John VD Geest several times to leave and select another car which would have freed up the BMW for you, even if it wouldn't have been the right skin. Maybe he didn't see the messages, but I wasn't going to kick anybody off the server for it.

You can see them in the original car selection thread, but for clarity going forward I'll copy & paste the selections already made into a new one.

I'm not seeing a FULL yellow #2 car, only a light green/yellow and a blue/white, both with #2 on the bonnet.

    It's light green/yellow one then.

I've checked and confirm the Repsol skin. It can be a bit confusing when the cars have a different folder/sequence number to the actual skin number that is painted.
