Heads up about cutting the track. Super strict. I like it. It's a good thing but dang, is there different levels?:D

Edit: Just found out there's three different levels. None, default and strict. Should be interesting.

The server is set to default.

    From Studio 397
For this release candidate build, we have completely reworked the way track limit infringements are calculated within the software, with the aim to make a more robust and fairer solution for all users. Within this latest build update, we have developed functionality that allows our users to set three types of track limit settings: None, Default and Strict. These setting can be applied to both single player and also on a multiplayer server.

These settings link to a threshold for penalties and warnings for infringements. In non-race sessions, the penalty invalidates the current and sometimes following lap, depending on the strength of the cut. In a race event, drivers will be allocated penalty points. Once past a certain point threshold, which can be manually configured, the system will issue the offending driver a drive-through penalty.

In a race session, If the number of points earned in a single incident exceeds three points, the offending driver will be given an automatic drive-through penalty. In cases where penalty points are accrued in separate incidents, points are added to a tally, until the driver reaches the set amount of configured points, whereupon a drive-through penalty will be given.

If a driver finds themselves significantly exceeding the penalty points tally, for example via large cuts, the system will issue a stop and go penalty, with the stop time variable dependent on the severity of the cuts.

In order to help better inform players of the penalty point status, a new Driving Standard Dialogue will show when a driver is at risk of an infringement. In order to avoid a penalty, the driver will be offered a brief opportunity to slow down whilst the situation is calculated, however the required level of slow down will not be displayed.

If drivers perform an illegal overtake whilst off track, a dialogue will issue a warning to the offending driver, and recommend they give back the place, with a short period of time allocated for the driver to comply. The system will ignore cars that are off track, driving slowly, in the pits or have DNFd.

The new system also offers a considerable reworking of other track based infringements, such as wall riding, passing while under investigation, pit exit violations and driving the wrong way on track.

This was something that was badly needed, IMHO. Let's hope it works correctly. May not work well with 3rd party tracks?

So... this will be my first rfactor 2 race.. despite owning it for a while i've never got on with it, only done a few offline laps in it. Feels completetly different to pretty much every other title. So it's going ot be a voyage of discovery!

Tyres slide around way too much for me, 30mins will be a stretch! Setups are a bit of a mystery in this...

Any pointers? How do you do pit stops?

One thing, the tires lose grip if they over heat. So watch out for that.

At the top of this page, there's a tab "Car Setups". I just added the set i ran at Silverstone. Not tested yet with the new version of rF2.

As Barrett, I also added a setup for all. It's pretty much stock as I have it now. Fuel isn't calculated.
I hope it helps Mark and all.

We will monitor how these new settings perform and if we can't get them to work as we would like we can revert to the none setting as we have used before. As we have seen with other sims it can penalise simple errors which we don't want.

I've set the cut-track points to 10 instead of the default 5. That will give you some elbow room.

I think the thing is we don't know how the practise session cut-tracks reflect on 'points'. On the server last night it felt quite strict, but this sounds like more of a accumulation of them rather than changing the corner limit itself.

If you go outside the track (defined by the 2 white lines) with all 4 wheels, you get 0.5 a penalty point for example. It accumulates as you say.
For big track cuts, you get an instant 3 whole points.
The way the server is set now, you will get a penalty when you have 10 points. I've doubled it from 5 to 10.

    1. you go to your Steam game library where rFactor 2 is installed.
    2. right click on rFactor 2 and select "properties".
    3. Then chose "Beta's" and select the latest Release Candidate.

Well that update took little off from practice time, had just installed mod so would have needed maybe 2 days more to compete with winner there ;)

I didnt like that penalty system at all.
    - It gave penalties even if had 2 wheels on track and its not same in every corner.
    - Some corners it gives more slack and some it just slaps you with penalty even for sliding 1 wheel outside.
    - It punishes for driver error. If you lose it or brake late and go outside, lose maybe second or 2 and on top of that...dadaaaaa!!11!!....have a penalty, you sucked that one!!!
    - So basically with this system, you would need to learn the tracks again. What corner and how to drive it and so forth. No thank you.

Gz @Johnny Gutierrez , great stuff! and gz @Didier Coelo , had allmost penalties at 10 so didnt want to fight you anymore. Just to finish race. And though you were G.E.A.R. mate but no!! you had no team selected! Why!!11???111??!1

While about to practicing last evening a support for my wheel failed. I have tried to fix it but feel it is a weak spot. Having no practice and no set up I used the default with a few tweaks. Not bad but under steered into any all corners. The first corner mishap ruined my front end and the flat spots gave may arms a 60 minute workout with the FFB at 100%. I went to the outside of the track at the accident but so did everyone in front of me so I hit someone, sorry.
Congrats to you Johnny on the win. When you lapped me you past me like I was standing still. I had to check if my foot was on the brake.

I am moving at the end of the week so I think this will be my last race for a couple of weeks. See you all next month.

    Cheers:)
