As with our previous Indy Oval Special Events, we will be running three 50 lap test events prior to the race, to give everyone the chance to get into the particulars of running extremely closely with other cars in Oval racing. The test dates/times are: Saturday 14th June 16:00 GMT Wednesday 18th June 18:00 GMT Saturday 12th July 18:00 GMT Additional tests may be run if felt to be required, subject to server availability and without encroaching upon other series schedules. Because these are only test events, there are no register/unregister requirements. Default SRO password is in use for the tests. The server will be configured the same as it will be for the race with Tyre Wear: Normal and Fuel Useage: x2. Private Qualifying will be used, consisting of 4 timed laps, 6 laps in total to include an out-lap and and in-lap. Before and between the three tests the server will be running for online practice at anytime. I am copying information below from previous races which should be useful for everyone.
Make sure you download and install both car & skin packs as listed on the race page https://simracingonline.co.uk/racing/seriesinfo/389
TIP I've run cars from both skinpack options back to back and any car in the Indycar 2014 v1.65 pack does not have adjustable fuel mixture, unlike in the default S397 Indycar. However my testing showed that the additional skinpack cars are a few tenth's quicker per lap compared to the defaults even without mixture adjustment. My recommendation then is to only use a car from the skinpack.
If you collect a penalty for anything and the track is Yellow and the sim instructs you to enter the pits, then even if you are not on the lead lap you must comply. It's possible that the penalty will not be cleared and you will still need to take it again, until it clears. This is caused by rF2 not being able to handle the situation of penalties under yellows correctly. If you get bitten by this then it's tough luck. Passing either side of cars ahead of you before the start finish line on a restart after a Yellow will give you a penalty.
The server is presently set to use the Brickyard layout because its pit entry line is before the pit wall starts, rather than quite a bit way past it in the Oval layout which can cause problems/penalties when pitting under Yellows. We'll see how it goes in the Tests and change if necessary.
Thanks and appreciation to Ed Jones & Mike Olson for attending Test #1 today and their patience in testing out the rF2 Yellow Flag functionality and penalties that can be given because of them. Further testing will be conducted in Test #2 this coming Wednesday at 18:00 GMT.
The second of three scheduled tests for the Indy 250 race on 2nd August is taking place on Wednesday 14th June at 18:00 GMT . All members are welcome to run in this test to help us evaluate the final server settings for the actual race. No registration is required for the tests and the default SRO password will be used to access the server.
