This whole situation has p****d me off for a long time now, being as it has pushed prices to a high that makes it way too expensive for the historic buyers of these products. This report from mid-January shows even nVidia are unhappy about it and why, but there is no mention of selling at published rrp prices, instead it's only moving it downstream to retailers, rather than sorting it out with the nVidia OEM's.

It's win win for nVidia if they play their "cards" right. As for miners, well the fact is a good gpu can make you money. Can't blame the miners really. Can't blame card makers. It's a good example of how ingenuity and free markets can influence supply and prices. Supply may not return to normal for a long time if mining remains profitable. But as the article suggests, if nodes start falling off the blockchain network then used cards will flood ebay. However, beware of those used cards as they run 24/7.

Seeing as you are a "Miner" Mark and partly responsible for my unhappiness ;), here is something that you can invest $1000's of more dollars in sometime this year!
Don't forget though that when you drop the current GTX's on the 2nd hand market for about $10 each, you need to balance that against your Blockchain earnings, just like a gambler who only tells you how much they win, not what they've lost

My son is the "operator". And let's just say it's a "hobby". :) If you invested at the right time those cards paid for themselves in about 5-6 months. Now it takes about twice as long. I could not justify a new server at current cost. Too risky. Not worried about cryptocurrency value but the hardware itself. Servers run all the time and produce a lot of heat. Each server has 6 video cards.

    LOL!
No heating required in the house during winter then Mark? That should save on the energy bills ;)

That's a very good price Roger, presumably it's a new one and not used? Where did you get it from?
Funnily enough I've been browsing the GTX 1070 Ti today and I too felt that maybe the prices are starting to come down. I might just hold off till later this year and buy a new rig, rather than just update the Gfx card, but if they drop to below £400 I might just be tempted :)

:( Story of my life: bad timing. I searched for a new graphic card for almost 5 months. But with those prices I chose to wait and how patience is not my strongest point three days ago I spent all my hard gathered money on ... my other hobby.
Now I can wait very quiet for the prices drop to some decent values :D
I have plenty of time now o_O

I'm there myself.. my 960gtx will not hold rfactor2's dx11 with triple monitor, so I'm saving some to buy a 1080 for quite some time. But these prices are trough the roof, and I don't know when nVidia will lunch the 1100 series (anyone with info on this?). So waiting seems the best option..
