So where are all you AC fans? We need more entries if this series is to go ahead, so let's see your support for both this sim and SRO .
I´m a bit confused, on car details it says 2800CS and 2800CS Alpina, but on car downloads there is only the link for the 2800CS. Therefore my question, are both cars allowed or only the CS?
Thanks. What I meant, the link seems to include only the CS and there is a separate link for the alpina https://simracingonline.co.uk/resources/bmw-2800cs-alpina.706/ The counter shows the CS has 10 downloads, the Alpina only 5, so I assume some should download that too
So sorry Philipp, I was thinking I had packaged the two car mods together into one. I've now amended the series details to include the Alpina cars as an additional download.
No problem Ken, @Franz Herbert Mann @Mitchell Kakotsky and I tested both cars a bit, and apart from the weak force feedback of the Alpine car (which appears a bit faster), we found a strange bug. It seems when you hit the wall (or stop nearby), then the car sticks either in the wall or you are only able to do burnouts. I do not think that this is ideal.
I tried to track it down in Estoril the guardrail seems to be sticky. As you see in the screenshot, I am in reverse, but the car does not move. That is track-related because it does not happen in Imola, but what still happens is that if you hit anything with your front, the rear axel does not stay where it should. That causes the described behavior, and as you see, the graphics do not report any damage in this area. Weird, I think this mod has some flaws, at least when you crash. So better do not crash...
Thanks for this update Philipp. I'm going to do some checks myself but can you confirm if this happens with both the standard 2800CS and also the Alpina version?
I've tested and you are correct Philipp . When I originally tested I clearly didn't hit anything and didn't include that specific test point when I ran, which I will do in future now for all sims/mods. I've emailed the mod creator and will hold off changing the car mod for our series until hopefully he replies. If he doesn't reply by the end of this weekend and provide a fix, then I'll change the car mod for the series to the BMW M235i Racing included in the AC Dream Pack #1.
Yeah both cars, I also tested a different version with spotlights, that had better force feedback but the same issue with the axle. @Mitchell Kakotsky first noticed it, and then we took a more detailed look. We were all perplexed, because that is nothing you would expect. So no worries, the plan sounds good.
Ken, sticking to walls will be a track bug and not the cars - A kunos car should do exactly the same there! Also I'm afraid I won't make any races for this series as we have the Srou AC nights on a Wednesday and I'll be running the GPL67 series (This may also be why you have a lower than normal turnout as we've always been a Wednesday and a lot of our drivers race on both sites)
Another issue with these cars also came to light, which is any slight contact with a barrier/wall will dislocate the rear axle from it's default mountings, ending any further running. This has been tested at both Estoril and Barcelona. I've made contact with the Dev and he is looking into it. My thought was it could possibly be due to AC updates affecting this older mod (?).
Ah right - didn't realise that part! I don't think I've ever seen that happen before so it a strange one
The sticking only happened at Estoril and with this mod, not with another e.g. BMW 235i car, but the axle issue happened at both tracks so would be a potential show stopper sadly.
OK guys, unfortunately for this series we will have to change the car mod due to the race-ending problem as discussed above. I have been in touch with the mod developer and after his own testing he couldn't replicate the problem. He did send a modified Alpina file, but my testing gave the same problem. I will continue to work on this with him, so we might be able to use the mods in a future series. For this series we will now be using the BMW 235i Racing car which is included in the AC Dream Pack #1. The link for it is on the updated series/race pages.
The maximum entries allowed for this series is 24 to cater for the Spa limit. There are 12 skins available in the mod so I've added 2 of each to the server config. I've already chosen #233, so if you want to use a specific skin then make your request here. First come, first served Ken Jagger #233 Kimi Martikainen #44 Jose Branco #171 Vasilis Doumanas #310 Franz Herbert Mann #71
