i have to say i've been enjoying these "Race Control" races during the SRO holiday "lul". There is a place for the occasional "pick-up" race after all, and rF2 is soooo much better than iRacing in my opinion. [Even shared a track with Mike Dos Santos, while he was slumming in the "beginners" radicals. And he didn't lap me! OK the race was only 16 minutes, but there was only one un-lapped car between us at the end, so i count that as a big plus!]

Then today i finally connected with a "special event" - 60 minutes in an LMP3 - and found Karl Strouhal and Jason Whited in the same split. Karl caught a bad break penalty when i was caught flat-footed at the start (game-controlled formation/rolling, no pass before S/F and Crew Chief was late telling me the green had waived while i was trying to find the lights). i think i lost 7 places before getting through of the 1st chicane, but Karl's race was ruined by a (unjustified) drive-thru.

Turned out to be a very fun race after that, especially when i caught up with Jason.

[We were obviously both trying to save fuel. Crew Chief (not sure i trust him anymore) told me my race would need 105L and the tank only holds 100L. Pitting for 10L (did i say i don't trust Crew Chief?) would cost 31s, so the challenge was to save fuel and not lose too much time doing it. Right up my alley, as they say.]

My opinion after 16 races: "Race Control" is basically just a better iRacing. It doesn't hold a candle to SRO and, unlike SRO, there is no feel of community, which i consider far more important than anything else. i like knowing and trusting the people i'm racing against. But like i said, there's a place for the occasional pick-up race when the real deal is on holiday.

Here's to a great new year SRO!
