I'm about to replace my old MS Office 2010 suite and have been looking at FreeOffice, LibreOffice and WPS. Does anyone have experience with any of these and have any recommendations or observations.

Thanks Nigel. I think LibreOffice is what was OpenOffice but the ongoing development :)

"LibreOffice is the actively developed successor to OpenOffice.org, which is commonly known as OpenOffice. Many years of development have gone into LibreOffice, making it the most active continuation of the OpenOffice.org codebase with regular releases every six months. OpenOffice had its last major update in 2014 and is no longer producing releases, so users are recommended to upgrade to LibreOffice"

I use WPS.... can be a bit annoying at times (it can popup offers to upgrade even though I bought it) but it's usable.

Defintely seems quicker than libre/open office (I think those are somehow Java based?). But you can definitely tell it has some bad translations in the UI sometimes.

Realistically all I need is Word & Excel alternatives and MS file compatibility.

Well WPS has that... just ignore the AI and cloud shite. Libre/Open office aren't bad free alternatives though.
