Just past the halfway point of Stage 1, NASCAR threw the first caution of the Cup race at Atlanta due to inclement weather in the area. It was very light rain, but showers remain close to the track. NASCAR chose to throw the yellow flag on Lap 37 and the cars ran a few more laps behind the pace car before NASCAR made the decision to bring the field down pit road on Lap 43.
