Already sitting in my rig for another race tonight, so I might as well set up for Saturday's stream, right? I'll go live shortly before quali begins.
Pasha, any tips on painting these cars? i've checked out the template and it doesn't have the psd in there to edit properly. just wondering what you use/your methods? as i'm looking to give it a go. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers, James
I built up my own templates using Content Manager and GIMP, since there were none available with the mod itself. If people want to do custom liveries then I can see if I can whip something up for all the cars.
Ah ok, i think i'm on the way to doing the template on the civic myself too. good job on the paint work Pasha!
Race report Free practise: Having not being able to do extensive testing for this race I was in the dark as to what lap times we could expect. It soon became clear that Alex was the man to beat after he put down a blinding 1.23.316 I almost matched him with a 1.23.355 Martin James was in there with a 1.23.5 too. This was going to be a close qualifier... Quali: Well, 10 car started the qualifier, and boy was it going to be close. Couldn't get a fast lap in at first due to me going off track. I did not know how that happened as I steered like I normally do at that point. Weird, but OK. 2nd try. This time I had the misfortune of hitting traffic just when I was on a good one. Can't blame the other guys as they were on their fast lap too. 3rd try. That one did it, a 1.23.337. Great, were it not that Alex had just done a 1.23.226. How does he do it. Must be feeding that Honda some special fuel Martin James was on the ball too with a 1.23.461. James Houghton and Phil Brown got in the 23's too. Close, like I predicted. Great effort by all involved. Race 1: Starting 2nd on this track isn't so bad as the start boxes are not staggered like they are on other tracks. Only disadvantage I had starting 2nd was that the polesitter has the inside line for the 1st corner. All I could do about that is try to have a blinding start. And well, I did just that. Only Alex did the same... I had to concede the corner as we were wheel to wheel, but he had the inside line. Therefore I braked a little earlier than I would have done if I were ahead. No need to risk the race this early on. But by doing so Martin James was surprised by that and ran in the back of my car. Luckily for the both of us there was no harm done. I guess he lost a few tenth's, but in the greater scheme of things it was OK. On with chasing Alex. Well, that was the plan anyway. The chasing turned out to be trying to keep up with his pace. He was blindingly fast today. Followed him for 7 laps when on lap 8 disaster struck. The wheel just died on me. And it did so in the worst place. right after turn 1 going up to Hawtorne. Hit the tyre barrier and was catapulted back on the track. I was trying to clear the racing line as James Bird was coming at me full speed. Don't know if we touched, but it must have been a brown moment for him. Again, sorry for that James. I tried to rejoin the race, but the wheel was useless. Went for the pit and tried to reset the wheel. It seemd to work again, so back on track it was. Only to have the force feedback spin the wheel 450°. Reset the wheel again and rejoined. At that point I was 3 laps behind and firmly in last position Alex had a healthy lead at the end of the race. And to be fair, even if the wheel had worked perfectly I doubt I could have challenged Alex for the lead. His form today was just to good. 1. Alex, 2.Martin, 3. Phil Race 2: Having finished 10th (9th actually it turned out) I was rewarded 2nd on the starting grid again curtesy of the reversed grid start. Having no idea if the wheel would hold out this time I was nervous. Needed a good result in this one to keep the championship hopes up. The start was a textbook one. Got to the 1st corner 1st. I knew I had to go all out to create a gap for when Alex got up to 2nd. Half way into lap 1 the forcefeedback just went away. Driving without force feedback is weird to say the least. But I managed. Then on lap 2 it started getting really weird. The force feedback would return but kept switching on ad off. Then the wheel jumped into a fixed 45° angle. A few laps further the force feedback tried to turn the wheel, but I was able to hold it. By that time Alex had taken 2nd position and started closing in on me. This did not look good. I decided that if Alex challenged me for the lead I would not fight him. The risk for a collision was to great. Anyway, I don't know how, but I managed to stay ahead of him. Starting the last lap he was in striking distance, but with only 84 seconds of racing to go I would hang on for dear life. AND I MANAGED IT! 1st I can safely say that this was the hardest race I have ever done. 1. Roy, 2. Alex, 3. James H. By the looks of it the racing was hard but clean. I don't have a full replay of race 1, so if anyone can help me out, please send it to me. Thanks for a great night of racing guys. On to the next one Thruxton
Quali Don't know how to set the car up but still feels fine on default with literally one change. Tight as expected but couldn't find the perfect lap got 3rd. Race 1 It was me Roy - - I was 'that guy' the Audi a bit caught short into T1 - apologies again on that and you described it well. That moment at the start caused me to disrupt the pack behind badly as i tried quickly to regroup and move forward whilst being swarmed out and dropping back. Apologies to the guys behind who had to take evasive action to avoid. I yielded to the cars near by and got out of the chicane in 6th place. Found my rhythm and got on with it lucking my way through mostly, Rob M who went wide in T1. Had caught the Phil B James B battle for 2nd place by around lap 8, by this time Roy had some reliability issues so I gained a place there also. A great fight between the 3 of us went on for what felt like ages but it was only 3 or 4 laps. So hard to over take here, however Phil slipped wide at T8 (i think) and it gave me a run. Starting then to close in on James for 2nd but was happy with where i was considering the start. I wasnt going to get through unless i lucked in, it happened - James B went off line out of T2 and comprimised him to the T3 entry and lucked into 2nd... On a side note my lights were on which i didn't realise during the sessions, not usually what i do, sorry about that. Race 2 Starting on the back row, got off the line well - Stayed safe into T1 and was following Phil Brown again in the opening lap. We came across 3 cars off the track in the final sector now up to 7th. Phil B had James H just ahead, both closing in on Norman B and there was some contact ahead in the final sector again, saw an opening and went inside of Phil into the final turn. An ever closing wedge that on replay didn't look good as i moved up a place. Phil kept close and had a look down the inside to T8, i kept it open for him to go through but the same thing happened and we contacted again, Phil yielded back; however if he hadn't it would have been fair enough as considering the previous contact which i saw on the replay it was a hard one to call. I was planning to let him go but he leaned on me and gave me the place back. None the less the fight Phil was the highlight of both races for me, really enjoyed it - edge of the seat battling which caused a few shoulder muscle spasms, and a few scuff marks on the paint work.. Lap 6 and ahead was James H 4th fighting Lee F for 3rd he managed to get through and Lee held close to him but slipped off in T8. James H and I engaged finally around lap 8 and had a close fight, positioning his car well i was not going to get through. I got a good exit out of the first sequence of corners on lap 10 and got a run on him, I thought I saw an opportunity into T6 right hander but on the replay there was no opportunity, i looked to the inside as the door opened and ran out of brakes as the door expectantly closed and we kissed as i spun out. Sorry about that James H. Finished around 6th i think in the end. Not a good show again - new to the series but will find my way for sure. Feel like Vettel without anyone showing me up let alone a young team mate! See you on the black stuff soon. Martin
It all came together for me an hour before the start. I spent 3 hours with the fortnightly ritual of getting AC, PC and VR to all work at the same time. Finally managed it but have no idea how I fixed it. I was struggling to find anything extra and was amazed at the pace James Bird had found. Its funny how 2 team mates start with the same setup and over time each goes his own way with it. We was doing identical times so after comparing the 2 setups literally 1 hour before quali it become apparent his setup was much better suited to the track. A few little personal preference tweaks later and I'm lapping a whole second faster. It was one off them gambles that pays off so massive thanks to James. The pace in this series is brutal, I honestly have nothing left. Every week is so unforgiving, 1 mistake and you have lost three places. Martin is flying, Roy is as always contending every single race. Its also worth mentioning I have not seen a single back marker in 4 races, the pace is apparent the whole way down the entry list. This is the reason I searched for an AC league host. Cheers guys
