    ZANDVOORT CLASSIC

    DRM at Zandvoort in 1979

    History
    1930s to mid 1980s
There were plans for races at Zandvoort before World War II: the first street race was held on 3 June 1939. However, a permanent race track was not constructed until after the war, using communications roads built by the occupying German army. Contrary to popular belief John Hugenholtz cannot be credited with the design of the Zandvoort track, although he was involved as the chairman of the Nederlandse Automobiel Ren Club (Dutch Auto Racing Club) before becoming the first track director in 1949. Instead, it was 1927 Le Mans winner, S. C. H. "Sammy" Davis who was brought in as a track design advisor in July 1946 although the layout was partly dictated by the existing roads.

The first race on the circuit, the Prijs van Zandvoort, took place on 7 August 1948. The race was renamed the Grote Prijs van Zandvoort (Zandvoort Grand Prix) in 1949, then the Grote Prijs van Nederland (Dutch Grand Prix) in 1950. The 1952 race was the first to be run as a round of the World Championship, albeit to Formula Two regulations rather than Formula One regulations like all the European rounds of the championship that year; a similar situation also applied to the 1953. There was no Dutch Grand Prix in 1954, 1956 or 1957, but 1955 saw the first true Formula One race as part of the Drivers' Championship. The Dutch Grand Prix returned in 1958 and remained a permanent fixture on the F1 calendar (with the exception of 1972) through 1985, when it was held for the last time in the 20th century.

    PITLANE SPEEDING WARNING

Don't drive over the pitlane line while racing or overtaking someone. The game considers that coming into the pits, and you will get a pitlane speeding penalty.

    DRIVERS BRIEFING

    1. All 5 events of this series will be broadcast
    Broadcaster: Neil Wood

    2. Zandvoort Conditions
    a) The race will start at 02:00 PM (in-game time of course).
    b) Time acceleration is normal. Fuel = normal, tyres = normal.
    c) Cut Track points are set to 6
    d) 50% damage
    e) The weather is always dry.
    f) Mandatory: you have to make a pitstop to change tyres during the race. You can decide yourself when to do it.

    3) This event has a single file formation lap. The pole sitter can start racing coming out of the last corner.
    Zandvoort map.png

    4. PUNTING:
    - If you punt a driver, you have to stop and give the track position back.
    - If you are not able to give the track position back, you have to do a pitlane drive-through.
    - If you do not give the position back or do a drive-through, you will go 3 positions down in the end result after the race.
    - Drivers who are punted can report to me, John van der Geest/admin, if the offender did none of the above.

    5. The use of the Esc key in Qualification
Use of the Esc key during Qualifying is the equivalent of stopping your car and getting out. This may be done only in your pit stall. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Here are the only two we will currently consider. These exceptions are subject to change at any time:
    1. You run out of fuel in the pit lane before reaching your pit stall.
    2. You sustain damage to your car as a result of another driver and cannot make it back to your pit stall. You must prove your qualifying session was wrecked by another driver and that you made an attempt to return to pit lane.

If you use the Esc key in any location other than your pit stall, your Qualifying session is over and you may not return to the track.

    6. You can find the password for the race server on the Zandvoort event page.

    7. Unregistering in time if you can't make it.

    8. Please use the SAME NAME in the rFactor 2 game as on our SRO signup list or it won't match in our automated result processing.

You can change your name in the rFactor 2 "Profile" menu.

    9. If you plan to PROTEST another driver, you have to wait 24 hours counting from the end of the race.
Any protest filed before that time will be viewed as not received. You can find the rules about submitting a protest here.

    10. You can find the server by typing SRO or the track name. Add the server to your favourites so you can always find it.
If you can't find the server in the rFactor 2 server list, you can access this way:
    1. click on this link: https://simracepackages.lima-city.de/rF2server/
    2. scroll down to "SRO" (it's alphabetical)
    3. choose the correct server and join with the password (see point 4 above)
    4. the server will start automatically and will take you to the event

Last but not least ... SIMRACINGONLINE wishes you a great race!
And always remember that your fellow SRO members have also put in a lot of time practising for this race,
so please be careful and respectful with your buddies. :)

I had a good pace, but I had 3 stop & go's because I didn't know the pitlane speed limit in the race session. Practice is 400 km/h, so I thought it was the same.

Sorry to Nick Westy for the misunderstanding. I thought you would lap me on the right, so I stayed left and lifted.
Thanks to Gilles da Silva for the skin!

Saw lots of penalties tonight... was it all pit speed related? I didn't think people would be doing track limits here.

    10 10 10 10 10 from the judges for @Philipp Pichler's epic somersaults and landing on his wheels!! :D

Couple of things from this round

@Simon Barnes You took the Capri this round... you took it in round 2 as well! Different car per round in this series.
@Romain Labro Did you pit this round? The results XML is saying no.

Hi Neil, yes, I did make my pit stop roughly before the midpoint of the race. I have the replay available if needed. I was fortunate to pit at exactly the moment when no one else was in the lane.
Edit : at 57.0 on the youtube replay, you can see “In Pit” in the standings.

Congratulations to everyone in the race and to @Toni Talvitie, I really pushed hard to get a second lap time that was enough for pole, and your second stint was really quick. It was unfortunate that you came to the pits two times.

It seems the lack of pit places was a bit of a struggle during the race.

Sorry also for the slight misunderstanding at the start.
I thought the rules were the leader can start when he wants at the last corner, but no, it is really at the exit of the last corner.

I aslo checked the replay of the stream. Is there an issue with my profile as I am not appearing in the standings ?

Looks like this is your first race in this series? Your stats will show once the results for round 4 are processed.

That was a nail-biter for sure! These 70's cars are built like tanks!! haha .. Thanks, Toni, for a setup that made these cars a lot of fun to drive & slam around! I was using the hills & bushes like the hi banks at Daytona! Go in too hot and slide off into the scrubs? no prob, just keep your foot in it all the way haha .. Happy to finish 7th after knocking myself down into 10th or was it 11th? ..:D

Grats top 3 ! I got the Lancia M2 out of the way ! ..With Toni's set the thing was a beast! I had a lot of fun with it ...

Pitting was tricky, because I had no idea where the pitlane starts, therefore I was very careful but it seems many other were caught out by that.

To the somersaults, not the only occasion I tried to kill myself.

The one you catched during the broadcast was indeed a bit prettier

Lucky no one else was affected. And somehow the car was still driveable, of course the car was not as fast as without but I skipped to repair the damage. And even after the second one, steering etc. were ok - lucky me. Result is ok under these circumstances, I don`t know, I struggled a lot with this track, regardless which car. Hope it gets a bit better at the next one.

Oh and one thing, sorry Toni. I guess lifting on the ideal in these fast sweepers is not a good idea. Hope it was no big deal for you.

Regarding the points, that was my bad. They have to be done manually on my end to update the overlays and I missed yours off. I corrected it after the broadcast finished when I noticed. Was my pronounciation of your forename and surname correct? Please advise if not.

Hmmm... rF2 doing rF2 things.... I thought I saw you pit live so I am not sure why the XML results wasn't recording it.

Q was great, not perfect but while pursuing it, it was a crash.

R stint 1 was bad, 1st off all had put pne click more to air intake and laps where just not there.
Hit @Philipp Pichler and made him crash due to massive speed difference on that one fast right hander. So did a drive through.

Some parts of track were actually really dangerous with traffic where some drivers even brake in odd spots.

2nd stint was back to speed. Sometimes you just need a reset i guess to get a different flow.
@Gaetan NOYGUES that bmw left me standing on couple parts off track. Well deserved win.

If I had to sum up my Sandevoort race in one word, it would be 'surprising'.
I was surprised when I joined the server to discover we were racing on 'Sandevoort Historic' I'd done all my practice on Sandevoort 67, which is basically the same circuit, but 'Historic' does look and feel a little different and, much to my surprise and disappointment, didn't have any of my brake markers!
So, at the risk of stating the obvious, always make sure you actually join the server before race day, or you won't know what surprises might be in store :)
Another surprise came 15 minutes into the race, when my wheel decided it had better things to do and just buggered off mid lap!
I couldn't change gear and was stuck in 4th. Unfortunately, this caused me to surprise @Simon Barnes and @John vd Geest as I immediately started playing pinball with them. My apologies guys.
I had to turn my DD off and on to get the gears working, but that left me without FF :( So I drove two thirds of the race without any FF, which was surprisingly retro
I was surprised you could get a Stop & Go penalty for speeding in the pit lane, even when you're not in the pit lane! :D
I was also surprised my car was in one piece at the end of the race. Either damage was turned off or set very low, or these cars are built tougher than a Chieftain tank!
Another surprising thing was how much more enjoyable i found the old Zandvoort, compared to the new Zandvoort.
Probably not surprising at all is how much I enjoyed the race, despite the surprises, though I can't help being just a little surprised at just how much brilliant fun this combination of cars and tracks is providing. Love it! Roll on the next one, which, hopefully, won't be so full of surprises.
    Congrats to the podium.

That is correct. The race starts from the exit of the corner.

    Hi Guys,
    First of all - Wow!
Tonight reminded me why RF2 with the right track/car combination is insanely good. I enjoyed every minute of the race, throwing my Capri around that historic track.
Second - I had a massive comedy solo crash on the fast back section and did one of those infinite spinning in the air dances. Thought my race was over but I eventually landed and was facing the wrong way on the track. Apologies to whoever nearly hit me, @Jo Rebok , I heard the skidding but you just scraped by I think.
Third - I had a perpetual nightmare pitting. I must have stopped at least 7 times to clear speeding penalties, changed tyres about 4 times, eventually realised that I have been clipping the pit road paint. I was getting really infuriated and only continued because I was driving the car so much!
Fourth - @Gilles da'Silva no apology necessary. We had a couple of minor tussles but 50/50. I'm not the greatest driver but you have always raced cleanly with me. Late on I guessed you were struggling, I thought you were damaged especially when I saw you crash randomly in my rear view!
Fifth - I drove the Capri for the 2nd time. Probably a DQ for me.

Finally, thank you organisers and dr ivers. That was super fun.

OFF TOPIC REQUEST FOR F1 1950's SERIES

Hi guys, please consider joining the F1 1950s series, because we are only 16 guys right now and with the no-shows we could be down to just 11 or 12.
That would be a shame, because this series is also being broadcast by Neil Wood.

Pescara and Napoli are DLC tracks. Contact me to help you with the download of these tracks.
