Well not fully sure, if I understand this car at all. It seems that even if do not want to save fuel, the fastest way to go arround is driving with low revs as possible. Never thought it will actually work to drive every turn expect the chicane in sixth gear. But yeah it does, not sure if that is weird together with this early upshifts. Anyway, when I saw how much lift and coast was necessary, I lost the desire to stick to it. Espically after running out of fuel in every race since round one. So that was a first, other than that, not sure what happened to me before the Bosch Kurve. In the replay, it looks as skilfully as if I had tried to warm up the tyres with a 360. Also not sure how weird that was, especially for the cars behind.
Couldn't agree more fully Philipp and that was once again my strategy for this race, as I calculated I could remain on the lead lap without stopping, albeit running 2 secs slower. I was hoping that you and Kai would be stopping, which turned out to be a good gamble for me, making up those two places after you both did and being able to hold on to the final flag. I had 0.7 litres fuel left crossing the line . I had a tightening in the lower abdomen area when you had you 360 and magnificent recovery and was extremely happy that I didn't run into you and could still almost see where I was going through all the tyre smoke. Your replay clips show just how close it all was. Congratulation to Roy, Kiril and Phil on the season long battle for the top three places, although Kai also had a strong competition and wasn't far off a 3rd place after six races. Thanks to everyone for supporting the series and looking forward to some more fun with the next Formula 3 Japan series starting in two weeks.
Yeah, that could have been a big one but it became a weird one. Good job to avoid that and make the fuel saving strategy work, in a sense that you gained positions by doing it. That was not that easy, at least for me. While other things worked somehow at the first try. Anyway, congrats to all finishers and I am looking forward to the next series aswell. See you there.
@Ken Jagger If you did that race without having to do a pit stop and still finished on 23 laps it You who is the Alien here. Best I could do was 20 laps on the 55L of fuel. Had to do a Splash and Dash for 10L. @Philipp Pichler Doing the shortshifting is the way to go with this car. You drive the car on the torque of the Engine, not the high end horsepower. Nice save on the spin BTW Anyway, I've liked the car from the day Shaun Clarke released it. The guy was a super modder. So the race. This one was fairly straightforward for me. There was no pressure for me to win. 3rd place would be enough. While doing some practice laps it was soon clear to me that I would have to pit on lap 19 or 20 and the race would be 23 laps. Qualifying: Was away from my comp for a few minutes not being aware that quali was about to start. Came back from my personal pit stop only to see the message "we're going to qualifying now"... Woops... Jumped into the rig got away right behind someone. Was thinking how I could create a gap so I wouldn't be distracted by other cars around me. Luckily the guy in front of me let me pass him on the out lap. That helped me. First I wanted to set a banker lap. It was a good one. Then Kiril did a time close to mine. The competitive driver in me wanted to have Pole, so I went for it. Grip was at 98%. Did a lap I didn't think was possible. Was well pleased with that. Race: Got a good start, but so did Kiril. For some reason it looked like I had practiced the low grip out lap better than Kiril as I was able to pull a good gap on the 1st lap. But then 2nd lap he closed the gap. He had said that he wasn't going to do fuel saving this race so I was fairly sure he would have to do a pit stop somewhere during the race. Once I got into the groove the consistency of my lap times was incredible. However Kiril was keeping up. Him losing a bit of time here and there made the gap increase to about 8 seconds on lap 18. Kiril pitted at the end of lap 19. Me at the end of lap 20. I only had to take 10L to finish the race. Exited the pit and saw that I gained another 3 seconds over him. He must have had a slowish pit stop. Did the last 3 laps without taking risks. A win. 1st Roy, 2nd Kiril, 3rd Phil. It must eb said that Phil had his driving well under control because he was flying this race. I really enjoyed this series because I was being pushed to the limit every race. Plus I love the car. So next series an F3... Not really my thing, but I'll race anyway. CU guys there
