It would be good to see some new series using the plethora of great cars in sims other than RFactor2. I’ve taken a sort of “enforced” break from competing for a while for this reason, and the lack of series events using sims other than RF2 is making me consider whether I want to continue with SRO or move to another platform,. I don’t really want to as I like the people I’ve raced with so far in SRO……but if I want to race online again it’s looking increasingly like my only option. Just a thought……..or am I on my own with this?
Chris its fairly clear that RF2 is the sim which is most supported in terms of number of entries at SRO. It's a shame that neither AC or ACC attract a decent number of entries despite all the work put in by the hosting Admins in creating the series for them. AMS2 is still gaining in popularity here, but still has a way to go. PC2 has gathered a nucleus of regular members who run it, so that is gratifying to see. We have tried R3E in the past but that too did not seem to hit the spot, so that doesn't leave many sims to choose from. Did you have one in mind?
I don’t mean additional sims, the ones we have are fine, but at the moment 60% of the available series are devoted to RF2, so if it’s not your preferred sim, you have a limited choice. AC, PC2 & AMS2 have a number of vehicles which handle great straight out of the box for, say, single make series, maybe with fixed setups, which for those who don’t excel at setting up a car for race day, offer a fairly level playing field in this respect. Maybe the past choices of vehicles in these sims play a part in the low entry volumes as they prove too difficult to keep on the track for those who can’t dedicate the time to required to “dial out” the instabilities. The avid followers of RF2 will likely be more adept at this type of thing given it’s been around for so long, hence the larger numbers of participants. If someone was prepared to give me some instruction on how to host one I’d be happy to give it a go to test my theory.
Some good points made Chris which I think might find a nodding head from some members, however there are also those members who have an opposite view and don't find a challenge in racing simple cars with little or no setup options. I think we can all agree that many default setups are pretty poor across many sims, but we have run the odd fixed setup series in the past and have tried to mix the cars we use between simple and more demanding to give all our members a chance of competing on a non-technical basis. If you have some ideas as you've suggested, then by all means drop me a PM and/or we could get together on TS and chew the fat on it.
