Registration Yes it's that time of year again for us to Host our what's becoming an annual event at SRO, namely the Indy 250, catering to our Oval racing fans both old and new. We will be using the same format, car mod and track version as last year to minimise the amount of time re-learning those skills required for this specialised form of racing. We will be running some test sessions before the race to allow climatisation before the event proper on 18th July. These will not require registration and will be open to all members who want to get a feel for this high-speed, close quarter racing with real drivers i.e. not AI. This will be the time for anyone unfamiliar with Oval racing to get to grips with it, ask questions, test pit-stops, running under cautions etc, all of which will be needed to get to the finish line in good order.

To avoid issues with results processing, due to there being two Classes of Indycar including the skin pack, please make sure to select your car from the skin pack. I've run cars from both skinpack options back to back and any car in the Indycar 2014 v1.65 pack does not have adjustable fuel mixture, unlike in the default S397 Indycar. However my testing showed that the additional skinpack cars are a few tenth's quicker per lap compared to the defaults even without mixture adjustment. My recommendation then is to only use a car from the skinpack.
Remember when selecting your car to go into the Customise screen and select the Indycar configuration and 119" wheelbase options for the best performance.
So far I've pencilled in 13th & 16th July for official pre-race testing, although I will put the server up outside these dates for free-open testing. Please make an effort to attend the official tests to have any questions answered that you may have about the race procedures etc. I will use Teamspeak for voice communications to make that easier.
All being well I'll get the Practice/Test server up sometime tomorrow Saturday 11th July, so additional practice can be undertaken before the two "official" tests. This will allow me to check the server/race configuration is set correctly in advance of the race.
Just seeing if I am following what I read above correctly ? I was considering giving the race some consideration this tear. Any set-ups available or advice in that regards ?
The two 2014 cars are only skin/livery differences between each option. The DW12 is the original ISI car which has a few differences to the 2014 cars as I've highlighted. I recommend one of the 2014 cars.
Many thanks to Nick, Philipp and Ed for testing tonight. It picked up a couple of server things which I've corrected, so it was all worthwhile, along with the ability to run on track with others and get a feel for the car on this ultra high-speed track, where drafting and aero effects come into play big time.
I assume you know more than I do about the track, but this would indicate the NASCAR version is being used instead of the Indycar, probably not any difference other than the name ?
I missed the test but got a few laps in! Im using the 119" with the indy 500 set up .. What kind of times were you guys getting? Solo with no draft, I couldn't break out of the 40's with a 40:3xx something ..
Yes we are using the Brickyard version Karl, primarily as the pit entry speed limit line is more friendly than the Indy500 version, which lies some way beyond the start of the pit wall and is not easy to see. The Brickyard version is clearly marked before the pit wall. We ran it last year and it was better for everyone to have a clear view of the entry and avoid too many penalties.
You're in the ball park Rob. Check out the Session Timings link on the top of the homepage for more info.
REMINDER - For some reason that I've been unable to decipher after spending too much time examining the track & server files, the safety car shows as a Verizon liveried Indy car, rather than the usual Corvette. The Corvette is seen in offline mode, but not in online. We saw it last year, but as long as everyone is aware it shouldn't be a problem. Just take care if we get a Yellow Flag and the "Safety Car" comes out of the pits. Don't confuse it with one of the other guys and assist it to get to the head of the field if necessary.
Hi everyone, Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from today's Indy 500 event due to personal reasons. I was really looking forward to taking part, so I'm genuinely disappointed that I can't make it. I'm sorry for the late cancellation and hope you'll understand. I hope to be back for the next event. In the meantime, I wish everyone participating the best of luck, have a fantastic race, and most importantly, have fun! See you all next time!
My mic did not work, no idea why - not the only thing that failed today. Getting caught in the "Danger zone" can happen, I had half a lap of fuel under full speed left, but I did not want to risk to run out. I remember from the real Indy Car, that in that case you can do an emergency stop (splash and dash couple of liters without tyres). Of course rf2 is not sophisticated enough to allow that nuance. So DT was fair, also no big surprise that you cannot serve the DT in the lap to the restart. But the last caution was the icing on the cake. Rob and me were a lap down, so we were not allowed to pit with the leaders but the lap later or don`t. In my world being a lapped car directly behind the pace car means you get the wave around, getting your lap back. That did not happen, instead Rob entered the pits under caution the wrong way. Before turn three not after turn four, I am not sure why the game told me after that you are following the wrong car? Should have I followed Rob under all circumstances, as stupid as that might be? (Stupid for me, not for him - if the wave around was somehow deactivated, then it was the other way round) After a while it said be prepared that you are passed and you guys did, that might have saved me from beeing DSQed but still more than confusing. I have never seen something like that. But andway, congrats guys it was fun (at times) and also nice to see Ed again. Enjoy your retirement, although we will miss you on track.
Congrats to the podium. Congrats to all finishers. Sorry for the FCY's, I'm afraid I caused both of them They destroyed my race, but I'm hoping they didn't spoil anyone else's. The first was due to sheer panic when I looked at my fuel gauge and saw 0.3ltrs when I was expecting half a tank! I happened to be close to the pit entrance, jumped on the brakes, spun. Also picked up a DT. For off-line practice I had fuel at X2, but the car seemed to be guzzling the stuff down much faster during the race. I'd been getting messages to pit, but ignored them thinking they were a mistake Time flies when you're having fun The second Yellow was another over-exuberant use of the brake pedal when slowing to pit, resulting in another spin. That time I got a S/G The lap's longer when you're lapping alone At least the FCY's added to the realism. What's Indy without a thousand safety cars? I'm not a big fan of watching Indy, but it's great fun driving them I thoroughly enjoyed the race. Loved it! @Ken Jagger Thanks very much for hosting. Fancy hosting a full series with 3 ovals and 3 road courses?
I think a lot of the Oval yellow flag rules have never worked correctly(?) but that's how rF2 is. Rob should have pitted(under yellow) coming off Turn 4 as published in our pre-race posts, which would have avoided the 'which car to follow' situation, nothing you could've done there Philipp. Things like being able to make a splash of fuel, no tyres, under yellow are not implemented in rF2. The only way to fix that sort of, is to allow pitstops under yellow which is a server config option, but then that would defeat the base logic of when cars are allowed to stop based on their lap position vis-à-vis the leader. Notwithstanding some of the issues, I think the race ran well, especially with a 100% finishing record!
