Sorry that I couldn't actually race - I had to leave for work but ran a couple of laps on the server. I discovered that you don't need to buy the track - if it is on the host server, you will get the track online. (Conversely, if you don't have the right car set, you need to buy it, so in conclusion, DLC content is 'free' online for tracks but not for cars.) NB - obviously the server has to be 'live' to be able to use the track so you need to wait for it to open. I found this out by accident when I joined a public server earlier and raced at Watkins Glen which is also a DLC track which puzzled me as I haven't bought any DLC packs. Anyway, hopefully that will save members some money. I haven't used AMS2 much due to always using other platfoems so it was very interesting to have a go tonight. My race in a BMW M3 at Watkins Glenn was excellent. Lovely graphics albeit a few stutters but nothing too serious. The whole process was smooth and nice. I also ran just 2 laps at Laguna Seca in practice. The graphics were beautiful, sun flares, lovely lighting. Hood view only but I haven't yet discovered how to change that (I will). The car felt good (i'll make a few changes to the FFB when I get time). I'm sure we can make it work for SRO. It was also a useful opportunity to revisit AMS2 - I was impressed after a long absence. Good info Simon! Yeah for some reason it always goes to a different view when entering the server, 'c' is default change view button but you can change it.
Check page one of this thread about half way down to see where to set up the cockpit views! Also you can do changes right from the server
Last round for the GT4's! Expect some light rain mid-way through Practice and Race. Q will be dry. Remember this is a DLC track BUT You do not need to own it to drive it. As long as the host has the track all clients can join and race (on any DLC track in AMS2) .. However, It's not the same for DLC cars .. but we are not using any DLC cars Race day PW is set on the champ page
You might want to study the pit menu and preset stops in case you need to stop for wets. If you have never messed with it it can be challenging.. Here is some basic info. First, be sure you have the ICM buttons mapped, (on some wheels its already defaulted to the 4-way thumb pad) Next, you want to make a new preset pit stop (you can also do all this on the fly once you know how the menu works but you might crash & die) From the garage go to Pit strategy From their you will see the create button Click this and the create box will pop up , give your strategy a name Once you hit create you need to set it up,for this set its just a quick stop for wets so select change all tires and wet compound Then put the fuel to 0 and turn off all the DAMAGE repairs ( if you don't turn them off that's ok as long as you do not have any damage & you can also turn them off on the fly when selecting your strategy) Once you're done hit save Ok, now how to use it once you're in the car! With the ICM mapping you made or using default open ICM and turn the page to the pit menu from there you will see the stratgeys at the top, scroll left-right to find the one you want in this case it's the wet we just made Their it is Hit close and that's it Your pit stop is now set .. You can also request a pit stop from this page if you don't have a request pit stop button mapped.. Hope this helped anyone who's not yet familliar with AMS2 pit stops
Sorry guys, complete screw up at the end , didn't know what Rob was doing ,but I saw him across the track so slammed on my brakes then it all went wrong, just towards the finish line. shame.
I saved the replay to see what the AMG lines looked like from the outside, but was amused by the chaos in the final corner.
Ya sorry, I don't know what I was doing either .. I blew that last turn and was lost in a head-cold induced mind meld I think you and Stephen were in the same car (no labels for me ) & I thought it might be him and I was giving him the position..
Track had a bug that made car lose its grip suddenly or the car or perhaps the tyres! Also the grass kept pulling me and every one else just kept on going ! Had fun tho.
I am still a bit puzzled from that last lap last corner incident. I was pretty sure that this will end like Schumacher and Alonso infamous battle in Imola 2005. So the only thing you can do is being close and hoping for a chaos scenario. And what happened really looks like some sort of perfect storm. Lucky me, twice somehow because I survived a late lunge from Scott, too. I was sursprised how many thoughts can go through your mind, while you see car getting bigger and bigger in your right mirror - Did I brake way too early? Did he brake way too late? Oh I maybe should yield to avoid a crash - and then you still turn in as nothing was approaching fast to your rear bumper. Anyway, have to say I kind of like AMS 2. I am looking forward to future races.
Sorry again PP, I was gone most of summer but now I finally have a decent pc and trying VR, but having a lot of distractions, like having to reset my view at the start causing me horrible starts among other settings. Its causing me mostly bad races, but the view is so immersive, I keep trying. I cant practice too long before the (used) headset gets low on battery which is part of the problem. But mostly I been making a lot of mistakes and getting frustrated again, (getting old sucks?) and this race I finally had a good race going with someone but blew it by getting right on your bumper and losing sight of my braking point. Also I cant seem to draft up on anyone since I thought I fixed my brake issue. this sim has a pedal info display and the brakes dont seem to be dragging but dropping to a 2 rear wing I still lost a lot of ground on the straights..
That reminds me of something. The last time I took part in cycling and running competitions, when I looked at the results lists, I noticed that you are considered a senior from the age of 30. That shocked me, but you give me courage that I still have a few years left (possibly). But maybe I shouldn't hesitate any longer to give VR a try. It won´t get better.
