Race comparison.png So - I've just finished my mess about in the Capri here. I've started from dead last against a field of 32 cars on the OSRW version for the sake of equality and run a 41 lap race to simulate Thursday.
As I already knew that the Capri's and Escorts were murdering their rear's I skipped trying to race with the 'fast' setup I'd come up with during my car comparisons and instead applied a load of the suggestions I made to Maxime earlier (setup attached for those who are interested).
This is definitely slower than my original by nearly a second - but that's no major problem as it's also carrying twice the fuel and is now leaning far more on it's front tires.

Driving it is now closer to the Porsches and M1, although if you need to use the car's extra grip it's still there - just not so easy to get at.
When not trying to pass stuff the key is to brake it into corners without getting the back end out much if at all, the Capri will happily hold speed through the turns while off-throttle (unlike the Porsches/M1) and you then only commit to full throttle in situations you know you WON'T get wheel spin or opposite lock.
All of the above requires some conscious effort to perform as you are intentionally going slower than the car is capable of to help keep temps down and protect the tires.
For the first 25 minutes I barely even had to counter steer as the setup had so much push - at around 40 minutes it was noticably shifting towards over steer again and required care to keep the rear from sliding too much. There was still plenty of grip to let you go full throttle through apexs', but doing so with the added slippage generated much more unwanted heat and resulted in lost time through the next group of corners and, of course, extra wear.

On around lap 35 the rears had finally reached the point where they were starting to give up - you can see me having to constantly move the brake bias forward in the video below to counter the rear locking I was getting into the slower turns.
One way of dealing with the sudden drop in latteral grip would be simply to reduce the boost, the method I chose was simply to try and balance on the throttle - this is slightly riskier but the tires will still take full throttle in a straight line even at 90% on the final lap so I'd rather waste a tenth in the corner exits to gain 4 on the long straights.

The biggest factor in grip based on this testing is clearly carcass temperature to me, if running ProTires like me then as soon as the main body of the tire starts to change orangy then you need to back off and cool it - a degree of red on the tread face can be dealt with if you don't keep on generating that heat enough to heat the carcass and generate more pressure.

I'm pretty sure that my rushed setup can be improved further - I'm equally sure that this problem will be much reduced on other tracks, so combined with a more neutral setup the Capri should easily be able to cause problems for us :)
I've also attached comparative laptimes for Matteos wounded Capri Vs my setup. You can see his default setup is faster, but once his tires go off it's over. Mine merely resulted in laptimes dropping by about 3-5 seconds, not bad considering that was in traffic and the AI don't pull over nicely like we do! (Virtual Jonzo was an absolute bastard as you'll see...)

The video starts early into lap 37 and runs through to the end - this should show how I'm having to drive it. While the tires are good it's pretty much the same but with more throttle in the turns and less opposite lock!
