Not a bad first race from me, first time in AC for a few years and first time in this car. Decent qualifying but I lost out on a one second improvement by having a silly half spin. No problem though. I tried something different for the race and put on a bit more downforce and it worked pretty well. I messed up at the start, shift protection kicked in into turn two and couldn’t get the car slowed down, then went around as I straightened the car up, back to last. Arrrghh. lol. anyway, from there my race was half decent, the slightly higher downforce worked well and I could lap in the mid 27’s which felt good. I only messed up at the end, I got very sideways letting through a leader and my rear tyres just went into very high temperatures. For almost half a lap the car was ver nervous and I was spinning under braking, which let one car through. Learnt from it anyway. Nice track to start on, Fuji is going to be a long lap and very high speeds. Will be interesting to see what it’s like. Well done to the podium, and to all those that made the finish.
I respectfully disagree with this viewpoint Roy. I eased off the throttle a bit coming down to the last corner and you got past easily when lapping me, although on the exit you were slower than me, probably due to the tighter line you took on entry. I had a better exit from the final turn but was under no delusions about challenging you into turn 1. Your exit error was entirely of your own doing and not because I "decided to race" you.
I saw your name on the timing strip, odd for Toni to have a tough race I thought. Didn’t realise you were 15 laps behind! Yeah it’s a good mod, you can lean on the car quite hard before it snaps. I just need to get used to the braking a bit more. I know I can brake a bit deeper into the corners.
Thanks, but it wasn't planned. You just went a little deeper Unfortunately I didn't have that much time to practice, so I had pressures that were too high in the race and the car oversteered too much for my liking. I guess track temp and grip were too high for my tire pressures. Maybe the fact that Roy was stuck in my gearbox the whole time didn't help either A cool car, thanks Ken! Just next time when the car has so many setup options, maybe try fixed setup? Just hop in and get on with it. That will be nice
Return to racing after almost half a year break ended with success. Third place on the podium, maybe a bit lucky, but the result is out in the world. Not being confident and not wanting to disturb anyone, I chose the safest option: starting from the back, hard tires - i.e. slowly to the finish line. In fact, that's how I could describe my entire race. One overtaking in 40 minutes and a short exchange of words with Kiril at the end of the competition, for a moment I was in P2 The greatest emotions on the last lap, a few hundred meters before the last corner I ran out of fuel, I rolled to the finish line by momentum. Ken, are you sure you counted everything correctly? PS. One more thing, DRS was supposed to help with overtaking, not defending the position. When I was riding alone, sometimes I forgot to activate it, because it's unnatural. Best regards and see you next time
Counted what exactly Michal? Not sure I understand what you are asking. It was my belief that DRS worked the same as rF2 but after the experience in the race and some searching it appears it doesn't. The differences are there are no Detection points for a car following another. You can use DRS within the track defined DRS zones, if they have them, or anywhere on track mods that do not have them. If anyone knows different then please clarify for us.
Ken, in my opinion, feel free to turn off the DRS. There is no point of using it if everyone, everywhere can turn it on anyway. Just extra work in the cockpit.
I quote NOTE - The races in this series will be for 40 mins only to avoid a fuel pit stop being needed.
To be fair to Ken, Even I didn't expect to do 29 laps. I only had enough fuel because of the laps I was behind Kiril. While behind him on certain corners I had to lift and coast to lower the chance of running into him. That gave me the fuel to do the extra lap. I should have slowed on lap 28. If I had done that Phil would have been 2nd and not have a DNF. He deserved that 2nd place. Fuel on Fuji won't be an issue. That is the version with the chicane. Race will be 27 laps. Full fuel in the car is good for 29 laps.
The objective with this series was to try and avoid a pit stop for fuel, if possible, replicating RW F3 races. I made the races 40m after an initial test showed that should work. Maybe because my driving style, engine revs wise, is different to others, but clearly it's possible to still go fast without stopping.
