They said they were having some issues before the stream started. My skin wasn't showing at all, just the base car, so i'm thinking they may have turned off the "download skins" option to deal with those issues?

 

You might want to bring that up in the S397 forum. It might be a residual bug with that new feature.

 

Will there be a replay, John? I turned mine off, as i had some issues when Q started.

So... You guys know about CrewChief and TinyPedal, right? CrewChief has a spotter that will tell you when someone's beside you. But it's somewhat limited in that it only tells you when they're beside you. But Ed tipped me off to TinyPedal which is highly customizable and includes a "radar" widget that will only become visible when graphically showing the cars that are within the radius you set. It also has a "relative" widget that will show the time and class to cars ahead and behind.

I run with a single monitor, and these two plugins are now essential for me to know when i need to leave room and when i can and can't turn in to an apex.

Mediums. I was a bit concerned about track temperature and my testing indicated i should wind up with about 25% left on that left front. But i think i came in at about 35%.

 

I should also mention that i was watching your progress closely and that was just enough tire to let me push as you showed up on my bumper. One more lap and you'd have had me.

 

What a great race boys! Oh, how I missed endurance racing like this. Regarding the liveries, it would be better to do a steam package with all skins. This would avoid weird server behaviour and bugs. Pretty much everyone who used the 488 GT3 with a custom skin was not visible, at least on our end. Nonetheless, it was a bloody awesome race all the way to the chequered flag. I'm looking forward to the next ones

Yes I need to check my friend, I was planning on using a new design on my car for this series but ran out of time so re-used my one from last time. However I need to check the file naming, I'm pretty sure I called it something other than alt.mas (and so on) but need to make sure anyway

The Martini Ferrari worked fine though (which was alt62.mas and associated .dds files) so that's a good sign.

We've had this issue before, and I assume (like you say) it's because we are using livery files of the same name, the server get's confused and mixes them up. There were quite a lot of funky looking cars on the stream. I didn't get kicked out though.

To answer the other question on here, yes you can create a livery "pack" but it's not a five minute job and would have to be created as a package file for RF2. Which means team files, icons, and so on. I've done it with single cars before, takes a bit of work unfortunately. Looks good when it's done though. Not 100% sure but I think they also need to be installed on the server, because otherwise you will get kicked out when you try to join. I believe that's still the case but someone will confirm I'm sure.

 

Just to be clear - I didn't say having files with the same name causes problems - and I honestly don't know if it does or doesn't.

 

You could be on to something there Phil - as far as I know, no Ligier finished the race - and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that no Ligier actually got to start the race.

 

Pretty sure it was just us two in the Ligiers, and we both got booted out at exactly the same time, in exactly the same way.

 

If anyone wants to see my perspective on the race, I've highlighted it on Twitch.

For the next couple of weeks, you can see both quali and the race in the full stream replay. (Twitch deletes these after two weeks.)

Since this was my first time competing in rF2 it was also my first time trying to stream rF2 and there were a couple of hiccups, but it generally went OK. I'll try to make sure the relative timer is working next time. (OBS and SimHub seem to like fighting each other sometimes.)

Tried to find the current character limit a while ago but couldn't. Thought it was 12, but suspected this had increased at some point.

Hadn't actually considered it a potential problem before, but yes, always a good idea to make the name as unique as possible. Makes sense that if you have two different drivers using two different skins with the same name it would cause loading issues. For example, my McLaren skin follows a naming convention based on what i'd learned about it several years ago: alt_BVR_720_BJE -- which is 11 or 12 characters depending on whether or not they count the "_" after "alt".

Wow! So few Ligiers . . . almost mimicking, but slightly more than in real-life . . .

 

Would it be that common?
I normally use my initials, followed by car info then possibly a version number or in-game car number
'gdsaston1' - 'gdsligier1', but I certainly don't mind adding further 'uniqueifying' characters ('gds723ligier').
I'm pretty sure that Barrett is correct, in saying that the number of characters now allowed in a name has increased, I believe the limit is at least 12 now, excluding the 'alt'.

 

Holy smokes. What are you guys, some kind of rocket scientist? I'm trying to read what you guys are saying but this stuff is way over my head. I didn't know you had to have a computer engineering degree just to run rfactor 2. Where was I when this was taught? Haha.
