    Formation lap procedure

    How does each race start?
    1. The race starts by a formation lap
    2. From the second to last corner we go double file
    3. the overall pole-sitter stays ON THE SPEED-LIMITER from that moment on.
    4. Once the polesitter starts the race by crossing the start line, we all go and are free to race.

4 people away from keyboard online are preventing server from being restarted. Very frustrating. If you are away from your keyboard please can you exit the server.

Don't think I will make it. For some unknown reason I have to install rfactor 2 ?? I have done nothing to my install since I was last on the server on Thursday but now steam wants me to "INSTALL" rfactor 2. These things always happen when your running late I don't know if I will be ready to race on time. Apologies for not showing up.

I made it on to the server and did a couple of laps in warm up but then I got disco'd when the session ended??

FFS. Really pissed off. Rubbish server, not recognising the car after I'd practice and qualified fine. Had problems getting on SRO servers at the start of this week and now this! I've sat at other SRO events where we've all been made to wait for someone to join, up to 10 minutes late, or had multiple race restarts because people were having problems. This time 5 or 6 of us kicked, and no restart so we can attempt re-join? Poor, poor effort!

Well that was a shame :(

I know what the issue may have been in that I created a “team” name file for the livery I created.

I usually just drop the MAS file into the livery folder.

My guess is the creation of a team name had meant the car is now no longer recognized and I got thrown out. Odd that I got all the way through practice and qualifying. Oh well.
It is a shame though. Did about 200 laps of practice and also did a full race run yesterday so I knew all the fuel figures and what I could achieve. Bugger. Haha.

Great sized field though. I had lots of flickering of cars on external view but none onboard thankfully. Ping was 25 so nice and strong.

To be fair they tried one restart but it didn’t work. None of us joined. :(

You may well be right. I haven’t heard that issue yet.

however whenever SRO have fields of over 20 I’ve noticed some lag with certain cars. Usually when an accident happens for example it tends to cause issues elsewhere but I feel your pain it’s not nice when it happens.

Great race, lots of fast drivers on grid. Had to sweat whole 92mins of it.
Car was little handfull and made me work hard for this one.
Q didnt get softs work, bad run
R good stuff. Thought I had it but little surplus of fuel in last splash but have to say Jiri had such a strong endgame tonite. Lurking in there in the shadows and hit with precision and speed when we had those last stops. Good race all!

Hard race because of FPS dropping all around. Sometimes, cars ahead of me, or by my side, or even behind me, were going back and forth. There were contacts with several guys because of that, apologies to all, there was little I could do.

Qualy: Massive drops of FPS, couldn't even match my lap times in practice with full tank. hopefully in the end i had a clear lap with no drops and saved my session.

Race : Very happy there was a restart because for some reason my setup reverted back to defaults. First laps were a nightmare because of FPS. Get pushed a couple of times, once i made the corner on two wheels, had to fight back for position with slower drivers ahead of me and framerates throwing by the exhausts. When position was secured, it was the first pass of lapped cars. Still framerates going out by the doors. Eventually, with clean air FPS went back and I could improve my laptimes, and position, until my pitsop.
Second half of the race was again awful because of framerates dropping once again. it was worst than first half, losing sometimes up to 4 seconds per laps just because of FPS. Then there was that crazy guy who thought that hard braking just in front of me was the right thing to do under blue flag. Lukas got pass me thanks to this, but I believe my tires were in better shape than his and i passed him back in the last lap.
5th in the end, don't know how i made it.

For those that suffered the unknown Car issue (another obstacle that I've had to get past to race this season:mad:).......
I only came across this last night when I was being told I was "unknown" or appearing as a DPi instead of a Porsche  or other people appearing as a Porsche and lapping at DPi speeds (oh that would of been fun!! :D).
I have found (discovered online) that this occurs if you try to create a new team livery through .rcd files instead of using a default team. By this I mean create a new team, driver and car number in the "create skin dir" inside RF2. Sorry, but these are heavily broken in multiplayer, except for "skin packs" which are mods added to the server rather than client side.

To avoid this in the future, everyone that was appearing as an unknown should follow the method below to fix it so you don't get kicked next race. I have to visit my proctologist after making this mistake with the teams liveries causing 2 of us to drop out of the server .

How to fix (Porsche files/folders as an example):
    1. on RF2 home screen, click "Race" tab at top left.
    2. In Single player list, select the car name listed to change car.
    3. On the new screen, drop the "Porsche" tab on the right
    4. Select 911 GT3
    5. Select the #73 car and click customize button on the left
    6. The car view will pop up, select the "create" tab top left.
    7. Click the "Create skin dir" button. (DONT FILL ANYTHING IN, JUST CLICK THAT BUTTON).

    8. "ALT TAB" to desktop and open file explorer. Navigate to: .......SteamApps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\ player\Settings\Porsche_911_GT3_R_2018.
    9. There will be a Folder called: "PORSCHE_LU967684D8"
    10. Copy your liveries ".mas" file to the "PORSCHE_LU967684D8" folder.

    .......pphhhhffff nearly done honest......

    11. "ALT TAB" back into RF2 and click the "back" arrow top left corner.
    12. Click "customize" button and then the "Create" tab again.
    13. select the "Skins" drop down and select your "310" skin.
    14. Click the "refresh" button, and that's it. It should default to that skin when selecting that car in any normal server (servers with custom skin packs won't be affected by this).

    Hope that helps.
It may help fix things with some of the lag (prevent server kicks/drops that cause lag and screen freezes). But the lag could well of been the fact there was 28 cars (35 during practice!) on a small track, never been in a grid that large in such a small space, found it real difficult to find some qualy space.

My liveries are now fixed , tested after the race on the actual SRO server so I know the method above works.
    See you next race....

We did restart the race for the guys that got kicked.

Good first race in this series with only a few seconds to other drivers around even after 90 minutes of racing, great stuff :)

To bad a few got kicked, and restart didn't help. Did see a few "uknown" but don't think all kicked drivers had this (self made) problem?
However, even if the lag of other cars was ok for most times, I did have flickering cars now and then the whole race.
Seems when going +25 drivers it starts to be problems, was the same in the old UI.

Yes it happens when we have really large grids, like you say about 25+.

I've known 22 or thereabouts to be ok.

In fairness we have people racing from all four corners of the globe and that sometimes causes issues anyway.

Yeah the unknown issue is being caused by creating our own teams, so on my screen I was showing up as "IMSADpi" Class and "RE-Amemiya Mazda RT-24P" but for one reason or another the server wasn't picking this up. I think anyone who had created this setup had issues. Not a problem I'll just do the standard approach of dropping the MAS file into a standard livery folder. It will mean we'll have a load of #77 or #55 Mazda's but it will work :)

I'll have a look on the S397 forum just to see if anyone else has reported it.

It maybe that but as Andrew says once we have 30 or so cars on the grid the server seems to get screwy. I don't know why as I have raced elsewhere (yesterday in fact) with a larger grid and had no problems. Has SRO discussed this with the server providers as something isn't right. I suspect they'll want more money for a faster server but maybe it's time to step up or go elsewhere to get better servers now we seem to be expanding. We don't want to put off this new influx by using crappy servers. imo :)

Not sure how you solved this but sometimes Steam looses where the Steam folder is stored. You can go into settings/Downloads and setup the link to the drive/folder where the steam games are stored. This avoids the need to reinstall. Mine does this from time to time. Hope this helps for the next tiime. :)
