The pit window thing was a little confusing for me... I think it caught a few people out tonight too!

How was it confusing, so I can better explain it?
I said the window opens between / after 20 minutes and 30 minutes of racing. So we start on 47 minutes (race start) and when the countdown clock displays 27 minutes, the window opens. When the clock says 17 minutes, the window closes.

    Confusing cos numbers :D

Those of you that couldn't serve penalties.... did you make sure you had the penalty selected in your MFD before coming in? Also did you make sure you didn't get another penalty while you pitted which meant it didn't clear.

I got it wrong too. just glancing up at the time while trying not to crash was tuff for me today haha.. so when i saw 30, I thought it was open, then closed at 20 left .. I think i still hit the window but thats how I read it ..

WoW! I've been using this sim for 13 years and had no idea you could do that!:oops:
Thanks for the heads-up :D Very much appreciated.
(Not that I'm ever likely to get a penalty . .)

OK !!!! I had no idea I had to select the penalty before coming in
It's basically the first online races I do in Rfactor 2 and I never did that yet
I'll know for the next time (I hope not to have penalties so often )

Think that's only for Stop and gos. Drive throughs should clear if you don't pit? It's been a while since I had a penalty so I don't know. All I know if you usually have 3 laps to serve them.

Test it offline just to make sure I am not telling fibs and getting rF2 and LMU mixed up.

Make sure you can cycle your MFD to the pit page & that you have buttons mapped to +/- and up down to select what you want ..Most wheels use the thumb button by default . You need to scroll down to get the full menu ..
Here is what's available for this mod/car ..

    PIT-STOP WINDOW

We had the additional on-track action with the mandatory pitstop, which worked quite well for the spectacle of the race. So, I'm glad the majority voted for that.
However, it was unclear for a number of drivers when the pit window would open and close exactly. Therefore, we shall call this round a "General Rehursal" for pitstops and no penalties will be given this time for people who got it wrong.
This will be official from now on:

    Pit-Stop Window:
    - The race starts with 47 minutes on the clock, when we start the warm-up lap.
    - The race-clock is counting down from 47 minutes.
    - The pit-stop window will open when the clock is on 25 minutes and zero seconds.
    - The pit-stop window will close when the clock is on 15 minutes and zero seconds.

    - You have to change all 4 tyres during the pitstop (about 60 sec. if you call it in in advance)
    - If you don't stop, are too early or too late, you will go 10 positions down in the final result.

SMOKING CARS DUE TO CLOSED RADIATORS

Because the engines of some cars are fragile, I have turned the mechanical damage off on the server and I have announced that to you all on the forum.
Some engines start smoking because the drivers keep the radiator on setting 1 = closed. This is not allowed anymore.
If you drive behind a smoking car, it obscures the view, is disorientating and therefore dangerous. Open the radiator to a setting where it doesn't smoke anymore.
Cars that smoke throughout the race will go 10 places down in the final result, specially the BMW M1.

    Hello everyone,

This Round 2 was very eventful. Well done to those who made it to the end, and congratulations to Maxime.

After testing the pit stops, I’d like to share a personal opinion. This reflects only my own experience and is not a criticism of the work done by everyone to organize these races. I actually found the idea of having mandatory pit stops quite interesting.

However, during the race I ran into two issues:

    1. Pit stops are not handled very well by the game. In my case, the car ahead of me had to pit between my car and another one. To reach its pit box, it ended up hitting my front end because there wasn’t enough space for it to pass between the two cars.

    2. The second issue was just bad luck, but it completely ruined my race experience. My pit crew never changed my tires. The first time I came in, I noticed the tires were not being changed. I went back out and saw on the display that tire changes were disabled. I tried to fix this using the directional arrows, but nothing worked and I couldn’t change the setting. I stayed stopped for 68 seconds to simulate the tire change anyway, but in the end I had to pit twice and still kept worn tires.

On top of these execution issues, pit stops also remove the “tire management” aspect of the race, which I personally find quite fun.

In any case, well done to everyone. It was a good idea to try this, but I found it frustrating to have my entire race compromised by pit stop problems.

That is unfortunate. You can also do the pitstop by going in only half of the pitbox square.

Map some keys on your steering wheel to navigate the in-car menu.
When you are waiting on the grid for the formation lap to start, check the menu for the tyre settings. Are they selected? Is the amount of fuel right for refueling?
Do some off-line on track test before the next race. The pit crew will only do what you tell it to do.

The M1 smokes even if the radiator opening is at 4/4. I don't know for other cars. Personnaly the smoke is not a big deal on my screen, but maybe it is because of low resolution details because of my setup

I tested the BMW M1 before on shorter tracks with radiator setting 4. I will test again on Hockenheim. If you are right, that smoke rule will be deleted.
I also saw some BMW M1 cars on the broadcast that did not smoke.
Having said that ... Drivers who smoke inside their car are acquitted of prosecution.

I used it on Norisring, radiator 4/4 and i was flirting with 120°C oil on each straight. It's up to you ! :)

I had no idea there was a pit window, seems I was lucky that following Phil into the pits was just right. Watched the FE race for this and was somehow really tired (not the fault of FE). Needed a while to get fully awake, just as Antonis appeared in my mirror I was fully awake. I had to push a lot to stay in front, until I made an error taking turn one. I thought this was it, but I passed him back because he presumably had to slow down to avoid a cut penalty in the Ostkurve chicane. Well and then that last lap, broadcast missed how the collision in the Ostkurve ended (I guess Neil is having a word with the director, anyway great job). After watching the replay I understand what happened, Antonis came into hot and would probably have hit the tyres, but I turned in and pushed him to avoid the tyres while I hit them.
As I was not fully sure what happened, my initial thought was this is my fault. Thanks for admitting it was not. Maybe the corner before was questionable from me, because it was really not much room for you. Anyway, no damage done, good battle - enjoyed it.

I used 3/4 in this one, in the last ten minutes the smoke sometimes but of course if you are driving more aggressive then I would expect that it will appear even with 4/4.

Regarding the mandatory pit stops, I understand the frustration about the blocked pit stall, that is one of rf2s weaknesses, because for me that makes only sense in a F1 scenario with a pit crew per team.
But ok, you can deal with that also with the rest. What I don't really get is the pit window, because when you force everybody in at the same time then something like this is more likely.

Anyway, it is as it is and it might be worth to consider, to do something different than the guys in front of you.

A nervous race for me. A very fast track/car combo (Capri) with some nasty surprises.
Firstly, I apologise to Mitchell. I let him pass as he was faster than me, then hit him hard when I missed my braking point. I was undamaged but Mitchell retired. Entirely my fault.
Had a nasty crash (solo) by missing a chicane and hitting the barriers. Smashed my steering but fortunately limped around to coincide with the open pit window. Long wait for repairs, but I kept going.
Drove much better after pitting, glad to safely keep out of the way of the lappers.
Thank you for explaining the smoking cars! That was strange.
