    The difference is that I'm not giving opinions - I'm stating facts. I don't need people adding useless clutter to the coaching I've given specifically because I've chosen what would be most effective to give to the pupil. What Flip is "adding" is irrelevant clutter that won't assist Mark with his current problems. My expertise is worth a hell of a lot of money, and I don't really think anybody else stepping in could provide corrections as accurate as mine.

    And again, as previously stated, the cars being cold on the first lap isn't an excuse for poor driving standards. I'm extremely disappointed by the subpar driving coming out of the slower Div-1 cars right now. This can't go on. That "Diplomacy" works in both directions, if people add something useless to a conversation I'll let them know it's not useful.

    I respect that, but keep it civil. Criticise the points, not the person. There's no need to put people down. :)
    And besides that, if you post a video on the public forum, it's going to get clutter, right? You'll get everybody's opinion, and you should accept that or post it to him personally.

    I remember well going into that corner and on video, seems left little less than i ment ( was going to get by nevertheless ) but heavy car and was really scared i go out and uphill
    when attacked that outside of traffic.
    Also starting laps are allways hardest for me, nervous, not in rhytm yet and so on. Old diesels warm up slowly :p

    Putting all aside I do like the fact that someone gives hints and uses his own time and even make a video out of it for all
    of us to learn. Something we can all take home with us.

    This have been raised a few times here, according to above the Lancia is to blame as the inner car has the right to chose the line here, see this example:

    This from the SRO rule statement, from my point of view if not consider an race incident here, both cars should stay
    in the lane and leave space, here the Porka could not really do that, but the Lancia was not complete stable either.

    heheh, there is only one but...in your example, car B is overtaking, in our example Lancia was overtaking via outside line and more than car width was left inside :D

    According to figure 12...

    Car A (Toni) is expecting car B (mark) to turn in at the normal point.
    Car B (mark) does not turn in at the normal point, but car A (Toni) does, and thus makes contact with car B (mark)....
    Car A (Toni) it at fault.


    We have brought up this figure 12 in the sro rules before, but no comment from an admin.


    Edit, just to add, I'm not saying the contact was your fault, figure 12 says the contact was your fault.

    Usually car "B" has the right of inside line, but. In the video car "B" inside was a car pushing out (Logical Physics). Car"A" Out side was it keeping on line or was cutting in? The angle of the video is unclear for Car "A".

    CAR A is doing outside pass in our video and B insidecar is beeing passed...

    Assetto Corsa / lesson number 2 - Tires

    I did more than 150 laps before the race, I did my job, but my mechanics decided to make some adjustments to the setup just before qualifying. Judging from the result of qualifying it was good, judging from the race result it was good for qualifying.:)
    Qualifications - P2
    Race - P5 (in P4 class:confused:)
    A good start, takes the lead, I quickly leave, after a few laps I have 10 seconds advantage. Nobody's chasing me? Why? What is going on? They let me go ahead. I start to think more and more, after a while comes the answer - tires (or more precisely, I crash into tires on t1)

    ... half a minute later...

    I'm going to P4, I'm 20 seconds behind the leader, but I'm not giving up, I'm fighting, I'm going up one position.
    On lap 23 I make a mistake driving oval, I fall into the pit lane a bit by accident, I decide to change tires, a little resigned I move on, but the concentration is not that good, there are more mistakes.

    Second race, second success - I reached the finish line. ;)

    Such an arrogant attitude! I was under the impression that if anyone has issues with driving standards in this league they should be addressed by raising a complaint with our moderators and not discussed on the forum. That's what we sign up to when we race in this league. And who appointed you as driver coach for this series? If that's the way things are going to be I'll be keeping you very busy for the rest of this series!

    That confuses matters somewhat as fig 12 would normally find car B at fault in a European series - A is in the lead at turn in and can pick their line providing they leave room.
    If B hits A through loss of control or through choosing a wider line then that's on B. Exceptions would include A loosing control, or A intentionally turning down tighter than B can be reasonably expected to cope with.
    Additionally I don't see where consideration for car's being under full control is in the SRO rules, I might have missed this somewhere but it would be important in this instance.

    I made a camera to watch this incident from above and think I know my decision were I running the series at 'home'- I'll keep that to myself though as that's Johns' decision here, and a 'foreign' moderator weighing in won't help anyone if he disagrees :D, also SRO seem to use slightly different rules to UKGPL/SRou where I've moderated in the past (If this gets to moderation and you want my cameras just shout John) and therefore to the MSA where I spent years Marshaling.

    Whether you're involved or not I'd recommend watching Ted's video, it's good advice for car's on both the inside and the outside in these situations.
    And if you watch it you won't be so surprised when the car to your inside moves closer to you approaching a corner in the future.

    I don't think he covered one of the most important reasons for moving closer to your opponent though when approaching turn in (Especially in sim racing - although this move should be done well in advance of the corner), unless the car beside/behind you has a driver using VR they can't actually see you and determine your line until it's too late - even helicorsa doesn't give info on car/steering angle.
    If you watch the accident from Toni's driving seat you literally never see Mark's car because he's left so much room - this isn't bad as there is clearly respect being given, but not only does it encourage under-steer through the corner, it makes the job harder for the car on the outside to spot you.
    Of course given the horrific lag at the start the choice to stay well clear might have been very intentional - I was doing the same at the front even though I only had about 4 cars I needed to be wary of.
    As an old school GPL'er, getting close to the opposition is a very hard habit to get into, as I'm used to horrifically bad netcode and don't like getting close to other cars, but in AC and modern sims you can use this to improve driving/racing for yourself and your opponents massively.

    I think underlining the cold tires/brakes scenario is worthwhile though, this is the first series I've been involved in with SRO that doesn't use tire warmers, so a very large % of drivers here are probably unfamiliar with the added challenges this brings.

    Yes, what has been missing on those rulefigures is the right to the line.
    Does Porsche havit or Lancia? How do you get that right anyhow?
    Figure 12 starts from the scenario that inside car is making a pass.
    In our scenario, outside car is making a pass.
    So in my mind it goes like:
    1 who got the right to line?
    2 Room / respect given?
    3 who hits who and why and so on.

    So what I think is that im making pass from outside,
    Did i get the right for the line? ( In rules how one gets it )
    Did give room / respect?
    What happens next? We hit side by side but why and so on.

    Just to tell that admining is not allways the easiest thing to do.
    Someone should protest or we dont get admin answer.

    Sometimes people get little hot about subjects like these but if kept constructive, talk is allways for the good of things.

    Just want to lighten the mood and let you know that Goodwood Speed Week 2020 can be seen here live this weekend. There's a toruing car race on it from yesterday well worth watching with some mediocre drivers such as Jason Plato., Tom Kristensen, Gordon Sheddon, etc. Not in the same league as us obviously but still reasonably good peddlers. Driving cars like the Rover SD1, Ford Capri, Ford Mustang, BMW, Camero, Dolomite Sprint, even a Mini Estate.

    crikey, this has all been blown out of proportion whilst i have been away. Both Toni and i have raced bumper to bumper for an hour before in old 911's so we both know we are decent racers who can race cleanly. Whilst i appreciate Ted taking the time to do a video with explanation, it didnt really need that much input. I was side by side with Toni and had the inside line for the ever tightening left turn. With a little understeer on cold tyres for my Div1.5 car (not Div 1 in performance) i couldnt take a tighter line at that point of entry as we are still making our way over to the left from being on the right at the top of the hill. This is not a blame game in any way but even that video above shows Tonis Lancia cutting across at a sharper angle than my cold tyred car is able too, rather than giving me any room, its closing the angle to us both and results in the contact that buries me into the tyres. We werent even driving flat out at that point as this was all part of lap1 as the grid shook out slowly and many of us had a car to our flanks. Anyway, doesnt matter now, i was the car buried and put to the back of the field so nobody else should be getting offended. I still finished in the top 10 so everyone's happy :);)

    First of all, we appreciate a lively debate at SRO. But as John mentioned, we have to keep it civil. There is no need to make it personal. If you think you have a case to file a protest, then do so. The admins will review it. I will say that based on the video that Ted posted, the rule that includes Figure 12 mentioned above does not apply. The pass was being made on the outside and it was the inside car that initiated contact.

    Multiclass racing takes a different mindset. More situational awareness is required, especially driving the slower class. You must always know where the cars are around you and pay closer attention to your mirrors. You have to be willing to change your driving lines to successfully negotiate turns. If you can't see a car next to you in a turn, assume it is there. I think it's something that has to be learned outside normal single class racing. And part of learning is making mistakes. Ted's video is instructional and we can learn from it and we should appreciate the time he took to produce it.

    err nope, sorry but i am going to still disagree. If i thought i had caused the incident i would gladly hold my hand up. I use VR so knew perfectly well there was another car there and expected it to keep station (as i had the inside line) and that he would get ahead on the inside for the right hand turning that follows, but the outside car came left across into me! No doubt the contact may not have occured if my car didnt have cold tyre understeer but that still means the outer car never gave enough room and i certainly never 'initiated the contact' as put above. For the record i find Lap1 incidents are infuriating for hour long races so i always try my utmost to avoid them and always feel aggrieved when the victim in one.
