Morning all.

Im having some hardware issues. It was working just fine at first but Ive been struggling with the gearbox and last night I ran the config "wizard" again and ever since my wheel has lost its mind it seems and no matter what I try its still waaaayyy too much steering angle so I look like a grandma driving and the car is pretty much undriveable. Now the config wizard wont work either so Im kinda at a loss here. Gonna try to get this sorted before the race but if I cant Im gonna have to sit this one out. The way it handles now is pretty much impossible and I would only cause havoc.

 

Do you have Content Manager? You can configure it without using the setup wizard there.

 

I am a maybe for tonight people. I hope there will be enough grid slots to enter anyway if I am back in time.

 

I dont have the content manager , where can I find this?

It might look like its the wheel itself , started up gpl and that seemed a bit off as well.

Ok so I found the "auto match steering" thing in the content manager so now it seems to work ok again. But I cant log on to the server , password is wrong somehow it tells me even though Im pretty sure I got it right , or is it a different password going via the content manager?

 

Great about the steering! No, it's just the password.. caps lock perhaps? Check the password on the event page.

 

I did and noticed it was changed so logged on the server ok now with the new pswd. Should be good to go for tonight then.

What got me into this mess in the first place was the gearbox. Ive been struggling with the box in AC ever since I started with the 67 mod a couple of years ago. At first I could not nail a downshift to save my life and the damage icon was constantly flashing on screen telling me how badly I abused the gearbox.

When I swung back to AC this time around (reinstall) it was there at first (damage icon) but I must have pushed a button of some sort because now its disappeared but I keep running out of gearbox even though I only downshift without clutch in two corners at Bridgehampton. Im a bit confused by the "debouncing" value in terms of ms so I took it down to zero.

So my biggest worry tonight is breaking the box.

 

Sounds like you are not clutching correctly.. I'm also damaging my gear box every now and then, but that means I clutched too late or not long enough. The debouncing parameter is to prevent very quick successive shifts, possibly due to hardware malfunctions. So if it would be 50 milliseconds, suppose the software reported 2 gear changes in that time frame then that won't happen. Imagine being in 3rd gear and you go to neutral and back to 3rd again in a couple of milliseconds.. that prevents it.

 

Maybe , its just that Im pretty careful in these two corners (T2 & 3 ) and the revs are fairly low when I downshift and I get no message of any kind of damage being done to the box and the shifts seems just fine but after 40 min the box seems broken and wont get into any gear. All the other downshifts are with the clutch and they seem fine as well.

It is what it is I suppose , I will try to survive 60 min somehow.

If I get you right, you don't use the clutch at all in both those very corners ? But why ? Thankfully one of the good points of this mod car is that she's not abnormally forgiving for bad shiftings, so that you have to use the clutch. Maybe the problem is that you're not used to heel&toe ?

 

The setup I have (chair and pedals) does not really allow for heel and toe driving , I got stuff in the way so I have to adapt a brake and clutch with the left foot technique sort of a thing. Which works fine for all corners but 2 and 3 , I have to coast a bit here and there but it works. Ive also setup the car as to use as little gearshifts as possible in the race setup.

I also use an H shifter. I will either get it right and figure it out or sink like a stone.

 

I find it is rushing the gear change that does it. When on the course you probably wont need 1st and i have geared it so that top gear is used on the top straight only so most of the course i will be changing from 2nd to 3rd. Hopefully that will help my gearbox life. Personally, i have a bigger problem getting the damn thing to turn without too much understeer. It is not hard to see how scary these things must of been as it tries to kill you. I remember as a youngster n the 70,s when they were no longer current and cheaper quite a few were raced in the UK on club courses like Castle Coomb and they totally dominated sports car classes
