On the event-info page it says "variable" to indicate that the weather is not pre-determined, but decided upon as the event comes up.
Drivers are informed on the forum well ahead of time.

In real life, weather conditions are not set prior to the start of any series. I see no reason why a simulated series should be any different.

Oh boy! Q is going to be interesting! haha .. looking at the race and the fact that in rF2 wet conditions sometimes carry over the start might be wet already ..
Also, remember the weather segments in rF2 are split into 5 sections. So, doing a little math, you can see that each session of 93 minutes will be approximately 18 minutes plus or minus a few seconds. So, expect the rain to start after 35/38 minutes and rain for about 18 minutes (1 segment) then the dry line will start to develop & who knows how long that might take  .. but we should have a dry(er) finish ..:D

ps. Maybe Q should be private for the storm ??:rolleyes:

id forgotten about that. I seem to remember one race on here before where it rained right at the end of qualifying, then we all arrived on the starting grid in our shiny new slick tyres….only to find a wet track! lol. I think most of us made it round the first lap for wets. Fun times….:eek::)

Done the best I can to be ready. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

Qual is private. And yes, the start will have a wet track, but no rain.

    2. Shanghai Conditions
    1) The race will start at 02:00 AM (in-game time of course).
    2) Time acceleration is normal. Fuel = normal
    3) Cut Track points are set to 6
    4) 100% damage
    5) This event has a formation lap
    a. the formation lap is done in single file
    b. when the LMP2 poll sitter exits the last corner, the race starts for LMP2. When the GTE poll sitter exits the last corner, the race starts GTE.
    c. you may not overtake until you exit the last corner yourself

    6) There will be rain in the middle of the race for about 18 minutes. We start on a wet track. See the weather forecast in post #12.
    7) Qualification is set to "private". That means that you will be alone on track so you can put in your best time without traffic (point 3 qual rule still applies).
    8) See the "DISCO PROCEDURE" 1 post below.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU HAVE A HEADSET CONNECTED TO TEAM SPEAK, WITH OUR WITHOUT A MIC.
WHILE ON THE SERVER, WE WILL ALL GO TO THE "RFACTOR2" ROOM ON TEAM SPEAK FOR THE RACE BRIEFING DURING WARMUP TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS.

    3. The use of the Esc. key in Qualification
Use of the Esc key during Qualifying is the equivalent of stopping your car and getting out. This may be done only in your pit stall. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Here are the only two we will currently consider. These exceptions are subject to change at any time:
    1. You run out of fuel in pit lane before reaching your pit stall.
    2. You sustain damage to your car as a result of another driver and cannot make it back to your pit stall. You must prove your qualifying session was wrecked by another driver and that you made an attempt to return to pit lane.

If you use the Esc key in any location other than your pit stall, your Qualifying session is over and you may not return to the track.

    4. You can find the password for the race server on the Shanghai event page.

    5. Unregistering in time if you can't make it.

    6. Please use the
SAME NAME in the rFactor 2 game as on our SRO signup list or it won't match in our automated result processing.

You can change your name in the rFactor 2 "Profile" menu.

    7. If you plan to PROTEST another driver, you have to wait 24 hours counting from the end of the race.

Any protest filed before that time will be viewed as not received. You can find the rules about submitting a protest here.

    8. You can find the server by typing SRO or the track name. Add the server to your favorites so you can always find it.
If you can't find the server in the rFactor 2 server list, you can access this way:

    DISCO PROTOCOL
To prevent the loss of drivers to an event due to mass-disconnections, Sim Racing Online introduces the following protocol.
(TeamSpeak INFO - go to TS channel rFactor 2)

    ADDITIONAL INFO:
    - A group of discos of 3 or more have to happen within a time zone of 5 minutes, otherwise they are viewed as separate incidents. For exemple ...
Driver 1 discos at the start, driver 2 after 15 minutes and driver 3 after 1 hour, those are separate incidents.
    - The pits will remain open during a Full Course Yellow period.
    - After a disco you can rejoin with a fresh vehicle : When you get back in session, your car is brand new, ready to start in Pits and you can use "Drive" to get back on track.

I may be a little late home from work, but I'll make every effort to be there on time. If you can hold back the start of quali or the race, even by a few minutes, that would really help me out l

Thanks to all. I was lucky to start on the right tires only because I didn't have time to change anything, very little time is given to get to the start. If there had been more, I would have chosen slicks)) Congratulations to Toni on the best lap, I also tried to follow him on the last one, but Freddy Hell tried very hard to stop me. Probably he had reasons for this))

Well done everyone who survived.:) I drove a pretty clean race and my lap times were ok. Managed one stop but my tyres were done at the end so couldn’t hold on for 5th. :(

did consider pitting for soft slicks towards the end but I was going to lose so much time and not achieve anything so I decided to stay out. Didn’t quite work but still happy anyway.

Hands up if you don't have a windscreen-wiper button mapped.
Yes, my hand is up :)
Boy, that was hard, sweaty and lots of fun.
Congrats to the podiums. You certainly earned it today.

I never liked the rain or mixed races in rf2, because it always was a mess in some way. So I was not really convinced by this, but it became my best "rain race" so far. Race long battle with Robin, but because of too many mistakes, I never had a sniff to overtake. (Or in other words, Robin did a very good job) Rob (good boradcast) caught the most of time, after another half spin I thought it might be time to switch to dries but you should avoid ti hit the guard rail at pit entrance and lose the splitter...
Anyway, still a decent result because I got third back, because it was clearly dry enough for dry tyres. Next time I hope to execute that better, although I am not that sad, if the next round is without rain.

Kudos to the winners, see you at the next round.

abandoned my first qualy lap which was a mistake as track just got wetter and could not get a decent time in after.

Did not quite have the pace of Matej and Peter, tried to stay out longer on the wets to ensure the next set would last until it was dry enough for softs, unfortunately after finally pitting for my 2nd set of wets I came across Freddy hell stationary on the racing line in one of the fast left handers in the middle sector and wrongly chose to go left rather than right to avoid him, clipped the front of him at just the wrong angle which put me into a multiple barrel roll causing massive damage, thought I was out at that point but car was surprisingly driveable with no rear wing, gained allot of time on the straights without it but lost much more in the corners so decided to pit to fix everything eventually and get another set of wets, knew I had to gamble to get them to the end to get a decent finish given my time deficit fixing the damage, managed to dispatch Andrew Harper who was also trying to get the wets to the end, Phillip pitted for slicks a bit too early and I passed him in Turn 1 but knew he would be hard to hold back at the end which proved to be true when he passed me again when the dry line was at its best, barely got to the end with 8% left on the left rear, happy to finish 4th given my misfortune, well done Matej who was the rainmiester today and my team mate Robin for getting the runner up spot for black cat motorsports.

Sorry Roman and Nick for the mess I caused :(.
I was not prepared to race under wet conditions, and I made a lot of wrong choices then.
Nick, when I saw you "flying to the moon" :D I also thought your race was over and I was really sorry for you at the moment. Glad to see you managed to continue.
I promise to prepare better for the next race :)

    Freddy.

Starting on a wet track with soft slicks, I thought it would dry out pretty quickly, but it did not at all!
I think the guys behind me were on wet tyres, because they were much quicker and they passed me pretty quick.
As the track got dry at the end of the first stint, it started to rain again, so ... goodbye advantage. Overall it was an exciting race with all those different circumstances.
    I had a good time.

Thanks for supporting this event, everybody!

Yes, it didnt try how i hoped and when finally felt my slicks gonna work out, i started to rain again and more heavily and sooner that i wanted.
Was little depressed and allmost pit the car and go to bed but took the wets and we had nice racing with John.
Was surprised about graphics too ( new computer ) as all was on ultra and blooms and uhds and whatever...i coulndt see shit behind the spray :D
Last 20 minutes could press little gas and enjoyed that.

Yeah I knew from the server that when it stopped raining it just didn't dry out fast enough and took ages for the track to come back to slick conditions.

At the start I had in my head that I would start on wets, then once the track dried I would swap to slicks (even if only for 20 minutes) but then once the track started to dry the rain came back again. Lol.

My only mistake was towards the end when I was 4th or 5th I should've pitted for soft slicks at that point (as I had a 30 odd second advantage to those behind me) but with 20 minutes to go it was a case of if I could make up the time at the end. Live and learn though.

My pace was OK though, one stop, only one little moment, and no damage so I can't be unhappy with how things went for me. Just started to lose too much time in those last ten minutes. :)

I hate this sometimes. Why does every track have terrible fps, even when all the settings are dropped way down? I have a 6800XT, it shouldn't be lagging like this. Then the one lap quali, then the rain right as I get onto slicks, then the drive through, then the screen freezes causing spins, then the GT holding me up while I'm comfortably on a fastest lap. Just my luck
