You misunderstood :). I meant to say that you got taken out by a spinner.

I'll tell you something funny. I completely forgot that I could use the boost when I was close behind you :p
Now I understand why you were so fast out of slow corners haha. Well done bro.

Haha, I was thinking you were not using it as well John :) We need to start using that turbo boost at team G.E.A.R. :p

The Escort (also Capri it seems) have obviously improved since the corrections from the DRM team on the tyre model. They have become drivable for the long 60 mins races without the 'unfair' disadvantage of having to change tyres or brace yourself for sliding on death tyres... (I have no idea how this was in the real DRM cars at the time), but I would disagree they are any quicker they were before.
Contrary to what my ego would be inclined to infer , the recent successes of the Escort have been a combination of many factors (including some competent driving on our side ) but that, I wouldn't say, is the main reason for the results. Those podiums and wins are in the context of races where the stronger cars and favourite for the win made mistakes or were subjected to glitches, accidents, etc, and the way the races evolved didn't allow for the stronger cars to end in front (although I like to think I had something to do with it ;)), but the Escort continues to heavily struggle on power and it takes some work to extract the juice from its handling potential in the tracks where this works.

Absolutely. I haven't touched the boost since race 1. Completely slipped my mind that I could LOLOLOL!
It's in the memory bank now. Better late than never.

You can see in the video that I was frantically moving my left hand and on the top of the screen the notice about the boost level can be seen...
Now we are even (I still remember the race at Charade? and your clever non-pit strategy... :D)

Oh sh*t ... karma again  LOL
You know, I was waiting / hoping for a mistake and it never came. You are a very good driver Jos, and sadly you don't crack under pressure.

Oohh, now I understand what you meant. Yes, team GEAR needs to start using that little perk a lot more LOL.

Thanks John. I would love if that (not cracking under pressure) was always guaranteed but, unfortunately, I'm as human as everyone else... Tim and other aliens aside :D.

i didnt use it either, i have a new wheel and i hadnt mapped a turbo adjuster to it yet. Wearing VR is a nightmare for trying to fumble for a keyboard button so only time i dared was when i turned it down when my fuel light came on. I was gagging to hit the boost on that long straight the whole race!

Yes, both Fords' tires had an error with tire wear as we've all seen. Unfortunately, only after the first two races in this championship were done. That was the only thing that was corrected and changed, so that it could match the other cars with tire life. The 1980 Capri was a winning car in real life, first in divion 2 and then when joining division 1 as well next year. Same goes for the Escort in its time in division 2, which is a year or two before Capri came :) They also ran ~ 40 min - 1 hour races, so I think pitting for fresh tires wasn't a thing and a strategy choice back then either, unless if they were having some issues and had to come in anyway.

Some time ago I found this webpage with the results of DRM races by years, if anybody is interested. Plenty of different cars there, but of course that's a lot of work for the mod, so I guess that only the best and/or legendary cars made it into the mod :)

For qualifying, you shouldn't worry about using the turbo. It held for a Nordschleife lap easily in my car at least. As far as I remember from when running the Ferrari in the Vallelunga club race, on that short track it took some 15 or so laps for the engine to go into red damage, start smoking (you can still drive like that lol) and eventually die. So that's some 40ish kilometers distance.

On another note, looking back at the stream and the replay, I can only agree with you guys - @Mac Shepherd had an awesome drive yesterday, even purely on talent and skill I guess. Passing cars left and right in the race, but it was with a series of unfortunate events along the way. Plus, that car is handful with a very tricky torque curve and brake balance. The rears lock up easily if coming into a sharp turn too hot on the brakes.

During practice sessions, I had some tire temp issues in the Toyota with wheelspins and twitchiness all around. I thought that the problem was the shortest final drive I used. But actually it was just those really fast bends such as turn 1, the esses, uphill towards Degner and towards spoon, the 130R... you name it. It's a bunch of very demanding corners one after another, very heavy on the tires so the temperatures can't really come down and build up really high. The mediums handled it even worse, as I had to make sure I'm not overheating the tires towards and during the timed lap. I just cranked that wing down, everything almost to the max downforce! So @Caitlin Penny made a correct remark I caught during the stream replay about having to use a lot of downforce on this track. Anyway, that kept the temps from building up more than I could handle, into the 90s C degrees average and only at some points maxing at 100C if really pushing. Although eventually when I glanced at my tirewear towards the finish, the fronts were actually worn out more than the rears. I think I figured out lately that if you keep the temps in the 80s and up to 90C, then you're looking for a good tire wear towards the end of a 1 hour race.
